Mr. J. J. CLEARY. Mr James Joseph Cleary, whose death occurred at his home, 106 Keira Street, Wollongong, on Sunday was a well-known resident for upwards of forty years. Aged 75 years, he at born at Forest Lodge and he had been associated with his mother, the late Mrs. Sarah Cleary, in the management of a number of hotels in Sydney, two of them being the President Lincoln at the corner of Forbes and Cathedral streets, Sydney, and the Jersey (later the Castlereagh) at the corner of Park and Castlereagh streets, and later with the Bellambi Hotel. Then for twenty years he was associated with his brother-in-law, the late Mr. Jack O'Brien, in the management of the Royal Alfred Hotel at Wollongong. A keen musician, his services as a pianist at district dances was always in keen demand and he was well known throughout the many towns and villages from Helensburgh to Berry. For eight years he had been secretary of the Wollongong Orchestral Society. The late Mr. Cleary leaves widow and family of four sons —Peter (Jim), Bernard, Vincent and Kevin, the latter three having recently returned to civilian life after service with the Australian forces. He was one of a family of seven, the sole surviving member being Mr Joseph Cleary, now of Bondi Junction, but who was in business as a hairdresser and tobacconist in Wollongong some forty years ago. A service was held at St. Francis Xavier's Church on Tuesday morning and the remains were interred in the family grave at Rookwood Catholic Cemetery.
