Gift Aid was introduced in 2000 to replace the cumbersome Deeds of Covenants system. In essence the tax authorities (now HMRC) pay to churches and other recognised charities 25% of the donations received by the charities, so long as the tax on them does not exceed the total tax paid by the donor in that year. Therefore if the donor contributes £100 HMRC will pay £25 to the charity as long as the current rate of tax is 20%. Last year HMRC paid the parish £2775 for ongoing church expenses as well as £1127 for donations to the Appeals for modifications of our two churches. Our donations fall into two categories - contributed Gift Aid and. non-contributed Gift Aid. The former applies to agreements to make regular donations on a weekly, monthly, quarterly or annual basis. The non-contributed is administered by the use of the white envelopes which you see in the pews at each church service. These are intended for (a) casual visitors (b) regular parishioners who prefer this flexible way of contributing (c) contracted Gift Aid donors who wish to supplement their contributions. Last year we received £728 in tax repayments on white envelope donations. We are always seeking new contributors to Gift Aid especially to compensate for the loss of donors who have left the parish, In addition this would help to soften the blow now that HMRC have reduced the tax repayment from 28% to 25% due to the standard rate of income tax falling from 22% to 20%. If you would like to know more about Gift Aid please ring our Gift Aid Secretary Harry Weldon on (01296) 748878. He will be delighted to hear from you. June News and Events at Waterperry Gardens. We were talking recently about royal events. Em remembers the street parties in 1977. Apparently her ex neighbours still talk about her vol aux vents.(I suspect her memory goes quite a lot further to be honest but don’t quote me). She suggested why not write about Coronation chicken. I usually leave the victuals side of family life to my better half but a bit of research shows that there are loads of recipes for Coronation Chicken but basically it is cold chicken with a mayonnaise-based sauce which can be eaten as a salad or used to fill sandwiches. Depending on your pocket and your tastes you can flavour the mayonnaise with fresh herbs and spices and additional ingredients such as almonds, raisins, and crème fraîche. It was invented by Constance Spry, a florist, and Rosemary Hume, a chef, are credited with the invention of coronation chicken. Preparing the food for the banquet of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, Spry proposed the recipe of cold chicken, curry cream sauce and dressing that would later become known as coronation chicken. Coronation chicken may have been inspired by jubilee chicken, a dish prepared for the silver jubilee of George V in 1935, which mixed chicken with mayonnaise and curry. Additionally, for the Queen's Golden Jubilee in 2002, another celebratory dish was devised, also called Jubilee chicken. Ingredients Serves: 9 100g (4 oz) mayonnaise 75g (3 oz) mango chutney 1 teaspoon curry powder 1 dessertspoon lime zest 4 tablespoons fresh lime juice 1/2 teaspoon salt 500g (1 1/4 lb) skinless, boneless chicken breast fillets - cooked and diced Preparation method Prep: 15 mins 1. In a large bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, chutney; curry powder, lime zest, lime juice and salt. Add chicken and toss with the dressing until well coated. Cover and refrigerate until serving. Tip: Use half mayonnaise, half crème fraîche for a lower fat version of this recipe or cut out the fresh lime juice and add mango chutney for a simpler cheaper version.
