There are many beautiful, scenic attractions, such as Diamond Head, the Punch Bowl and the Arizona Memorial which can be seen on Oahu by bus, car and bike. But some sites seem to be more wondrous when they are seen by boat, such as picturesque landscapes like the Sand Bar, Coconut Island and China Man's Hat Island. Unforturnately, to rent a boat with a driver can prove very expensive. However, the Air Station Marina here may have the solution to this problem. The marina offers sailing lessons to anyone wishing to learn. There is a basic sailing class which consist of four classes Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a minimal price of $50 and an advance sailing class the first Sunday of every month from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for $40. The basic class focuses on different points of sailing both upwind and downwind, rigging of the boat, types of knots and basic seamanship while the advanced class stresses coastal navigation and ocean sailing. Both classes 'emphasize the importance of boating safety. The marina also offers a junior sailing program during the summer months for teenagers 14 to 17 years of age. For more information, call the marina at 254-5606. John McCall, prepares to dock his sailboat at the Station marina. Nell Morgan Instructs students in basic sailing techniques.
