DISCOVER THIS QUAINT CITY

Weesp... a city located just a few train stops away from Amsterdam - engulfed by beautiful and picturesque nature, lakes and canals spread across and around the city. There is great architecture and it is rich in history.

WHAT HAPPENED IN 1942? The year was 1942, there was a well- established and close-knit Jewish community who called the city their home. Only until one night in 1942, then Nazis took over and suddenly, in that one night, the whole Jewish community vanished!

THE CONCEPT The tour walks you through the city and main elements regarding the Jewish community are shared. Visit the "stumbling stones" spread across the city and learn more about the stories of Nazi victims who once called Weesp their home.

NEED ACCESS TO THE TOUR? This tour can be accessed through the IAMSTERDAM website and app, there are various other tours along with this one, relating to the Castles & Gardens area (outskirts of Amsterdam) which are listed and suggestions are given of other tours which might be of interest.

Through design based research, the International Tourism Management students from Inholland designed six ideas which contributed to the dispersal strategy of tourism in Amsterdam and its Metropole Region. The first four ideas focused on the area “Castles & Gardens” in the Metropole Region, the last two ideas focused on Amsterdam itself. This was a part of their assignment for the minor ‘Destination Development’ in the academic year 2019-2020. Their commissioning client was amsterdam&partners.
