Short Description / Summary

On the 17th of September 2019 the city of Weiz, namely the office for environment and mobility, invited to the 2nd Major and Stakeholder conference. The invitation was sent out to almost 150 people. Mayors and municipal councils of the of Weiz, representatives and managing directors of companies in and around Weiz, the transport association, the state and provincial railway, the state and district government, as well as to a class of the HLW Weiz, which deal with sustainable transport as the main topic in this school year, were invited. 61 people attended the conference. Mr. Günther Rettensteiner (external expert of the traffic office regionalis) reported what has happened since the start of the project (June 2017), which work has been done so far and also about the content of the work. Among other things, he presented the results of the SWOT analysis for the region around Weiz, in which the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the region regarding to sustainable mobility were recorded. This knowledge was embedded in a strategy, which should lead to a comprehensive improvement and simplification of "public transport", but also of pedestrian traffic and bicycle traffic through targeted measures. These types of mobility must be combined as well as possible, adapted to the given conditions. Such an approach cannot work only regionally and cannot be limited to the borders of a city.

Mr. Klaus Hölzl from “Schiene OÖ” reported about the experiences of the “Traunseetram” opened last year. The “Traunseetram” connects the district capital of with the municipalities of , Kirchham and and represents an important pillar in regional commuter, pupil and tourist traffic. Through the merger of the former “Traunseebahn” and the “Gmundner Straßenbahn” to today's “Traunseetram”, one can travel from Vorchdorf to the Gmundner Hauptbahnhof and from there to the rest of the world.

Main Lecture: OA Assoc. Prof. Priv.-Doz. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. med. Hans-Peter Hutter

For many years, his research has focused on air pollutants in the exterior (e.g. fine dust) and interior (e.g. chemicals, moulds), electromagnetic fields of mobile radio, human biomonitoring (industrial chemicals, fragrances) and climate & health.

In his lecture he reported on the connections between motorized individual traffic, lack of exercise, fine dust pollution and the health risks for humans. He also talked about noise pollution and its negative health aspects.

Hans-Peter Hutter called for motorized traffic to be slowed down and replaced by "soft mobility" from the point of view of health and environmental policy.

"This is also useful in many other areas: Less traffic means less noise, comparatively clean air, more space for safe movement and social activities in the city - in other words, a higher quality of life everywhere and in total".

The participants of the conference agree that networking is very important in order to achieve and implement the goals set out in the SUMP. The Major Conference is perceived as a suitable medium for living networking and exchanging experiences. All agreed to repeat this kind of conference regularly. Links to deliverables and outputs As the annual Mayor-Stakeholder Conference is part of our Measures and therefore part of the D.T3.11.2 (Annual conference of mayors and main stakeholders to promote smarter commuting in the FUAs) Due to the possibility of discussion, networking and presentation of the previous project contents, the Deliverables D.T3.2.1 (Joint elaboration of SUMP at FUA level), D.T3.8.1 (Pilot Actions at Weiz’s FUA), O.T3.1 (Pilot Actions). The invitation to this event including information about our project was sent to about 150 people, an event announcement was placed in the city newspaper, the press was invited to a press conference, a press release was sent to the regional newspapers and a report on the event was posted on Facebook, so this conference can be assigned to the following deliverables in the WPC: D.C.2.1 (Media Directory), D.C.2.2 (Media Relations), D.C.6.1 (Social Media Activity).

Expected effects and follow up The annual opportunity to network the various target and interest groups provides a new platform for sustainable mobility in the region of Weiz. In the future, this conference will continue to exist beyond the project as we included the conference as one of the most important measures in our list. The city of Weiz will be given the opportunity to present goals, ideas and projects to the stakeholders and interested parties in the region. Through this exchange it is possible to discuss problems and challenges, implement innovations and exchange experiences. Through the networking of experts, transport providers, companies etc. the future implementation of the SUMP created in the project in the region will possibly be achieved better. By implementing the conference as an annual event the communication between stakeholders will be improved and new ideas can be gained by gathering people from various groups.
