    Fish Biog 2018 In September 1988 Edinburgh born singer Derek William Dick, better known by his stage name ‘Fish’ resigned from his position as lead singer with world renowned progressive rock band ‘Marillion’ in a move that shocked both fans and the music business alike. The band were seemingly at the peak of their powers selling out arenas across Europe and having just released their album ‘Clutching at Straws’ in 1987 to critical acclaim following the multi-platinum 1985 album ’Misplaced Childhood’ they looked like they had the world at their feet. ‘Clutching at Straws’ was seen by many to be their best album yet and offered the beginning of an exciting new creative era for the band. “I adored ‘Clutching’. It was very personal to me and painful both writing and especially recording in the studio where confrontations were regular occurrences. We started writing “songs”, not just “bits” that were joined together. ‘Hotel Hobbies’ was a throwback to ‘Misplaced’ but we broke out on ‘Warm Wet Circles’ into bona fide song writing. ‘Incommunicado’ the band really didn’t like when we put it together. They thought it was too simple, a throwaway ‘jam’ .I loved it, it was plugged into my own influences and I admit very ‘Who’ ‘Quadrophenia’, one of my favourite albums. I loved the energy we created. It to me represented the original ‘Marillion attitude’ we had before we became ‘successful’.     “HET VOELT ALSOF IK NOG ÉÉN ALBUM IN MIJ HEB” Interview Fish – De Oosterpoort, Groningen (22 april 2016 ) Met Marillion’s hitsingle Kayleigh zal hij altijd in één adem genoemd worden: Derek William Dick, beter bekend als Fish. Ook zijn naderende afscheid als muzikant in 2018 zal daar weinig aan veranderen. Hoewel Kayleigh in Neder- land niet verder kwam dan de 16 e plaats in de Top 40 bleef Marillion hier door de jaren heen enorm populair. In 2015 was Fish voor het laatst in Groningen, toen zijn optreden op het laatste moment werd geannuleerd omdat toetsenist John Beck kort daarvoor zijn arm had gebroken. Op vrijdag 22 april 2016 is Fish weer terug, deze keer met een ongedeerde toetsenist in zijn band… ’s Middags spreek ik de Schotse zanger in De Oosterpoort, waar hij druk rokend vertelt over alles wat hem bezig houdt. Want Fish is veel meer dan alleen Marillion. Hij is acteur in een aantal tv-series, schrijver van zijn eigen biografie, fanatiek supporter van de Schotse voetbalclub Hibernian en heeft maar liefst tien soloalbums uitgebracht. Kom meer te weten over deze veelzijdige muzikant, die zijn bijzondere bij- naam te danken heeft aan het feit dat hij graag lang in bad zit: Fish!     http://www.altatensione.it/marillion.htm MARILLION Abbiamo incontrato a Milano una band in salute, che ha fatto la storia del prog, ma che ora cerca di allontanarsi dal solito "clichè", per approdare ad altri lidi...lontano dalle major e con l'aiuto del web e dei fans. Articolo e reportage di Lory Lorena, foto e filmato di John Lorena. La storia dei Marillion inizia nel 1978, un anno durante il quale la scena musicale internazionale vive una rivoluzione clamorosa, con la nascita di fenomeni effimeri tra i quali spicca il movimento punk. E' il periodo in cui tramonta più o meno definitivamente un particolare discorso musicale intrapreso da diversi anni e denominato "rock progressivo" o, in taluni casi, "rock romantico". Nonostante la confusione e il cambiamento che pervade il panorama internazionale, nasce in Inghilterra un gruppo chiamato Silmarillion, il fondatore di questo nucleo di "avventurieri nostalgici", è Mick Pointer, batterista proveniente da Bicks e attualmente leader del gruppo new-progressive Arena. L'intento iniziale è costituire una band strumentale. Dopo un inizio stentato, Pointer e il bassista Doug Irvine devono già ricominciare a cercare nuovi musicisti, in quanto il chitarrista e il tastierista precedenti decidono di andarsene quasi immediatamente. Ai tanti annunci pubblicati sui comuni giornali musicali risulta particolarmente interessato un certo Steven Thomas Rothery, chitarrista originario dello Yorkshire, nato il 25 novembre 1959 e proveniente da esperienze con i Dark Horse e i Purple Haze. From my point of view, there is no other citation, which more properly expresses the emotional impact of music to human beings. People come and go, but music remains forever, since acoustic waves are not bound to matter like monuments, paintings, or sculptures. In contrast, music as sound in general is transmitted by matter vibrations and can be reproduced independent of space and time. In this way, music is able to connect humans from the earliest high cultures to people of our present societies all over the world. Music is indeed a universal language and likely not restricted to our planetary society. The importance of music to the human society is also underlined by the Voyager mission: Both Voyager spacecrafts, which were launched at August 20th and September 05th, 1977, are bound for the stars, now, after their visits to the outer planets of our solar system (mission status: https://voyager.jpl.nasa.gov/mission/status/). They carry a gold- plated copper phonograph record, which comprises 90 minutes of music selected from all cultures next to sounds, spoken messages, and images from our planet Earth. There is rather little hope that any extraterrestrial form of life will ever come along the Voyager spacecrafts. But if this is yet going to happen they are likely able to understand the sound of music from these records at least.

Januar 2017, Von: Redaktion, Foto(s): Torsten Gadegast Der Progressive-Rock-Sänger und Songpoet Fish hat seine umfangreichen künstlerischen Pläne für die kommenden Monate bekannt gegeben, die sogar bis in das Jahr 2018 hineinreichen. Im Mittelpunkt steht zunächst die Produktion seines neuen Studioalbums „Weltschmerz“. Damit und mit dem Marillion- Klassiker-Album „Clutching At Straws“ will Fish Ende des Jahres in Großbritannien seine nächste Europatournee starten. „Clutching At Straws“ soll bei diesen Shows, ähnlich wie zuletzt „Misplaced Childhood“, komplett gespielt werden. Fish hat sich für die nächste Zeit viel vorgenommen, dabei aber einiges an Planungen, speziell was Konzerte angeht, auf einen späteren Zeitpunkt verschoben. Ein Grund ist ein gesundheitlicher. Der Künstler erklärt in einem aktuellen Facebook-Post, dass er sich im kommenden Monat einer Schulteroperation unterziehen müsse, die eine längere Regenerationsphase nach sich ziehen dürfte. Daraufhin wolle er sich auf das Schreiben und Aufnehmen der Songs seines geplanten neuen Studioalbums „Weltschmerz“ konzentrieren, weshalb er sämtliche Tourneeplanungen für Kontinental-Europa in das Jahr 2018 verschoben habe. Angekündigt hat Fish dagegen bereits zehn Konzerte in Großbritannien, die unter dem Motto „Weltschmerz – Clutching At Straws 2017“ im Dezember dieses Jahres über Bühnen in unter anderem Manchester, London, Bristol und Glasgow gehen sollen. 17.     Marillion Scritto da Montag Domenica 01 Novembre 2009 15:18 - Il primo 'nucleo' dei Marillion nasce nel '78 da un'idea del batterista Mick Pointer. Il nome del gruppo è Silm arillion , nome tratto da un libro pubblicato postumo di J.R.R. Tolkien, autore e ispiratore (involontario) di un genere letterario che è il Fantasy . All'inizio i Silmarillion sono una band strumentale, con influenze non definite ma con una propensione ad una musica piuttosto complessa. Ma il gruppo è giovane e, dopo i primi 'disastri' live, chitarrista e tastierista se ne vanno. L'anno successivo, grazie ai soliti e mitici annunci sulle riviste di settore, si unisce al gruppo Ste ve Rothery , un chitarrista affascinato da artisti quali Gilmour, Hackett e Latimer. La sintonia con il resto del gruppo, in special modo con Mick, è totale. Si riesce a trovare un tastierista, Brian Jelliman, e il nome del gruppo viene 'accorciato' a Marillion. Si cominciano a produrre i primi demo di carattere estremamente differente dai Marillion che conosciamo: musica barocca con tinte neoclassiche, inserti di flauto e un'aria bucolica pervade la loro proposta musicale. Si cercano ingaggi per concerti, e dopo vari fiaschi si arriva a suonare persino in una clinica psichiatrica (almeno così narra la leggenda...). Sul finire del '79 una piccola svolta: Doug Irvine (bassista) si cura delle parti cantate! Questa scelta (del canto, cioè) 'sconvolge' la musica dei Marillion. Da brani precedenti, come una fenice, sorge la prima 'canzone' della band, Close (che con Fish diverrà The Web ). Purtroppo, Doug lascia la band e i reduci sono costretti a cercare bassista e cantante.
