Plenty of variety on offer each week!! Yet again family outfits taking top spot at £34 for a smart hen and a large brood of 11 from R Granger. N Greenwood with the only other brood on offer with a Buff Orpington hen and 7 Mottled Sussex chicks selling for £20. Two hen Crollwitzer turkeys certainly caught the attention of the buyers this week selling very well for £29 from K Vernon-Smith. Next a slightly different entry being an Easter Egger Cockerel selling with two Light Susses Hens selling for £21. Another trio which drew attention was a lovely trio of Lady Amhurst Pheasants from B Pattinson which sold for £16. Pullets sold to a top price of £16 from C Chesters selling a Black Rock and Barnevelder. S Davies was close behind selling some eye catching Silver Seabrights very well to £14. N Greenwood with his Buff Orpingtons sold to £11. Cockerels continuing to be in good demand with various buyers in attendence each week selling to £18 for a Wheaton Maran from J Grundy. R Morris was next at £9 with many more sold between £5 - £8. Waterfowl sold to £13 for K Grecian’s young Call Ducks and £9 for S Barne’s Female ducks. Much less eggs on offer this week as expected. 88 dozen on offer again with 100% clearance! Contact Hannah with any enquiries 01829 262100 or [email protected] HORTICULTURAL SALE 10.30am Auctioneer Jonathan Farrall With the weather a little more inclement this week, a shed full of entries in the plant and shrub sections, met a surprisingly buoyant trade, once again tremendous quality and choice on offer. Specimen Acers sold to £45 for super Palmatum Bloodgood, Wisteria sold to £35 in flower and large Clematis made up to £15. There were plenty of bargains around too; border-fill shrubs and perennials sold between 50p and £2 on the whole, all great quality and many just starting to show some colour. Tomato plants and Strawberries 50p-£1. A great choice of potted and bedding plants once again, mixed hanging baskets to a top of £28 averaging £15, Fuchsia baskets to £15 averaging £9, Geranium to £1.30 and basket plants 40-90p. Summer bedding sold well once again; averaging around £1.20 per tray. Increased entries of new Cheshire potatoes (Rocket) sold to £1.50 per lb for 10lb bags. Duck eggs to £1.30 per dozen. Averages up considerably on the week, especially in the lump, with all cows sold to average £734 per life or 114ppk, many many more could have been sold to vendor’s advantage. Only 6 cattle selling under 80 pence (mostly channel island breeds), with the plainer end a real trade. That said, the best black and whites soared past 120pence. Competition and transparency is what markets are all about, can you afford not to sell live through the auction system. Feeding types always a premium, especially with a pre movement test. As is always the case, plenty of buying power for all grades of cattle, keep them coming!!! Today’s market average (mostly black and white), coming in at 114.13ppk or £734.38 per head. (Everything in, including the lean, mean, lame and loopy!) Black and white cows traded throughout the day at 120p to 135p for meated cows(135p to 150p younger models), 110p to 120p for steakers, 100p to 110p for stronger plain cows and 85p to 105p there after! The milkers were a superb trade from start to finish, with the first milker in the ring realising £2,040 for CM & MA Bason of Minshull Vernon, Newfields Lental Andrea yielding 30kg daily she was snapped up by Richard Bowdler Ltd of the Trench, Ellesmere. Top price of the day went to P H Bourne & Partners with Stokehall Pesky Brita bred from 12 generations of Very Good or Excellent, yielding 26kg already and very fresh she was purchased by a Market Drayton based purchaser, also selling to the same home for £1,940 was Grantchester Uno Raquel 2nd from O C Whittaker & Sons Ltd, this cracking heifer yielding 30.kg. Cows sold very well up to £1,960 for IR & N Bradburn of Wigan, Deanbank Bertha 58th yielding 34.kg daily was snapped up by a local purchaser with another great cow from this home realising £1,780. Shorthorn in milk heifers sold to £1,380 for N Hitchen of Halifax. Cross bred heifers sold to £1,040 for a fresh heifer from M & R Littler of Backford, whilst G H Kynaston, Whitchurch sold heifers to £1000. In Calf Heifers were in high demand again today and sold to £1,670 for R D Bramall, Minshull Vernon; Minver MVP Doric due in August to the named sire Hereford was secured by a local purchaser, other in calf heifers from this home sold for £1,610 with all in calf heifers cruising over £1,480. A great Hereford Bull from Oulton Lowe Farms Ltd, Little Budworth realised £1,600. Heifer calves were keenly sought after today selling to £340 for P H Bourne & Partners, with Monty cross calves selling to £320 for Winward Dairy Farming.
