74 CULL COWS 10.00am Auctioneer Simon Lamb 07815188125 Topping at 156.0p or £1326 Numbers remain tight once again as the feed shortages through the back end take their toll on current numbers, however, all the talk in the week was the cows well less, NOT at Beeston. Only 6 cattle selling under 80 pence (mostly channel island breeds), with the plainer end a real trade. That said, the best black and whites soared past 120pence. Competition and transparency is what markets are all about, can you afford not to sell live through the auction system. Feeding types always a premium, especially with a pre movement test. 74 STORE CATTLE AND BREEDING CATTLE Auctioneer Jonathan Farrall 07796 952948 The lightest entry for several months, somewhat expected at this time of year and don’t forget we’ve been getting over 200 cattle every week!

Despite a sluggish beef trade, demand for quality stores, especially those forward types, has remained firm. The same would be in evidence today, only the younger end looked a little shy of where they should be.

Today’s sale kicked off in fine style with the 1st instalment of a production sale of breeding cattle from Messrs Mycock, Flagg. Leading the trade was Pedigree Blue cow Bidwell Isla, a Cromwell Fendt daughter who sold with her pedigree bull calf at foot at £3400. Next up at £2000 was a pedigree Lim cow with Blue steer at foot and a Pedigree Blue cow with Lim steer calf. Further entries promised from the same good home next week.

Forward stores were extremely well sold once again, only a handful of steers and heifers over £1000 to a top of £1035 for Angus steers from Messrs ER Goodwin & Sons. Pick of the youngsters from Peter & Janet Mansfield, Hyde, £1000 at just 13mo.

Powerful heifers from The Allen Family, Whitchurch to a healthy £1190 and several short-keep heifers over £1000 for Messrs Goodwin.

Thank you all for your support once again, please help us to help you by arriving in good time with your stock, the market is manned from 7am, the earlier you’re there – the more people will see your cattle – simple marketing!
