In an effort to promote better understanding of the role of statistics in a nation’s development amongst the public, infographics of statistics (FunSTATStic) were displayed along the scenic route. The WSC Run 2019 was jointly organised by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) and the Central Bank of Malaysia (BNM). In conjunction with the 70th anniversary of DOSM, runners aged 70 and above were also awarded special recognition for their participation WORLD STATS (WSC) RUN 2019 in the run. The launch of the much anticipated ISI WSC 2019 was officiated by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir bin Mohamad, in a culturally rich Opening Ceremony. It is Malaysia’s first time hosting this prestigious international event since the first ISI WSC was held 132 years ago and it is an honour for the nation to be at the centre of the convergence of the global statistics community. The ceremony showcased thought-provoking speeches, dazzling traditional performances and the debut of the ISI WSC 2019 theme song “Statistics Bloom in Harmony”, performed by Malaysian songbird, Adibah Noor. “Statistics is impartial and it is colour blind.
