With its 163 elected MPs, an ”anti-system” party has entered the political system – not merely the electoral arena, but also the very heart of representative democracy. This political entity, led by former comedian Beppe Grillo, has responded to a social demand for renewal and revitalization of democracy. The rise of the M5S participates to a scene of strong de-legitimization of the political class, and of widespread sentiments of intolerance towards the political parties. At the same time, the Movement has reached the point of calling into question the representative character of Italian democracy, albeit by using the very mechanisms that typify such a regime: elections and Parliament. -

Political satire in Italy: a successful television genre Rossend Domènech . Political satire is present in every Italian media, There's a lot of political satire on Italian television: two daily specially on television. The author examine in this programmes on national channels and four weekly article the most outstanding satirical scheduled programmes, not to mention the doses of satire dotted programmes and analyses its evolution. He ends throughout many programmes that are not specifically claiming that politics has been transferred to the satirical. During the last season (2006), there were five television stage, instead of any Parliament, and it has exclusive daily programmes and, in previous seasons, from also assumed the television laguage, even satire. 1994 to 2006, half a dozen appeared and disappeared. Since spring 2007, and in addition to these programmes, broadcasters have started to show new comedy and satire programmes in general that sometimes include political sketches. Keywords At the same time there has also been a proliferation in the Political satire, television, Italy, Berlusconi, Le Iene, country of satirical cartoons in the press, and every year Blob, Striscia la notizia, Parla con me, RaiOt, Che one or two books appear on this area. But, where the genre tempo che fa, Crozza Italia. is most abundant is on the Internet, principally since Silvio Berlusconi entered politics (1994), when satire on the ruling classes was more difficult to carry out by means of traditio- nal public and private instruments. This was due to relent- less censorship of this category. We can therefore say that satire has become fashionable. -

Teresa Filizzola 30th September 2016 2 Abstract If we look at the existing publications addressing topics related to the audiovisual translation mode of subtitling and the rendering of humour into another language, we shall notice that there has been an undeniable growth within these branches of translation studies. Nonetheless, this statement does not apply to the specific field of translation of stand-up comedy humour by means of interlingual subtitles. The literature related to this research field reveals a significant gap especially when the focus is on how audiences respond to this type of translated audiovisual products, and when the source language and the target language are respectively British English and Italian. The present PhD project was designed to fill the aforementioned research gap and, in order to attain this purpose, some sketches selected from three of Eddie Izzard’s stand-up comedy shows (Dress to Kill, Circle and Stripped, for which Italian subtitles are available in the official DVDs) were played to a sample of 103 Italians based in Italy so as to observe their reaction. -

Parte I: DESCRIZIONE BIBLIOGRAFICA E DELL’ESEMPLARE Premessa PREMESSA ALLA PARTE I Con la parte che pubblichiamo – la Parte I, relativa alla Descrizione bibliografica e dell’esemplare – si completano le tre grandi ripartizioni nelle quali ci è sembrato opportuno articolare il nuovo codice di catalogazione italiano. Seguiranno, nei prossimi mesi, l’ Introduzione (una sorta di “Capitolo 0”, a cui ci hanno abituato molti strumenti di lavoro) e le Appendici . Il testo che pubblichiamo è da considerare, naturalmente, non definitivo , offerto all’analisi e alla discussione in ambito professionale e, per la Commissione stessa, da riesaminare insieme alle altre parti pubblicate in precedenza per dare al tutto la massima coerenza e omogeneità. La bozza di questa parte non è ancora completa: non comprende gli ultimi capitoli (descrizione bibliografica delle pubblicazioni in più unità, descrizione di documenti non pubblicati, descrizione delle caratteristiche degli esemplari) e presenta piccole lacune in vari punti, soprattutto per gli esempi e per i materiali speciali meno diffusi. Alcune problematiche connesse a questa parte, dai livelli di completezza della catalogazione al complesso delle informazioni incluse nelle registrazioni bibliografiche e alle relazioni fra queste, saranno trattate nell’ Introduzione . Inoltre il testo, per la sua complessità e per le fitte relazioni tra i diversi punti, richiederà nei prossimi mesi un’attenta revisione dal punto di vista formale. Punto di riferimento basilare per le norme di descrizione sono stati naturalmente gli standard ISBD. Questi standard però, anche se molto studiati e applicati quasi universalmente nel nostro paese, sono stati recepiti attraverso traduzioni, interpretazioni e adattamenti differenti, complessivamente fedeli ma divergenti in molti particolari sia fra loro sia rispetto alle norme originali. -

6o Farringdon Road, London EC1R 3GA T: 020 7324 2522 Contribution to the Universal Periodic Review Mechanism Seventh session of the Working Group of the Universal Periodic Review A submission on the Republic of Italy by Index on Censorship 30 August 2009 Introduction Index on Censorship welcomes the opportunity provided by the Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights to comment on the situation for freedom of expression in the Republic of Italy, with which it has been concerned for a number of years. In comparison with other western states, the Italian media role as ‘fourth estate’ and watchdog of political authority has declined since the late 1970s and the Lockheed scandal when press exposés forced the resignation of then President Giovanni Leone. A monolithic political structure and an established system of state influence over the broadcast media in the years that followed, cleared the way for what Index on Censorship believes is today’s failure to regulate a well documented conflict of interest between the media and current prime minister Silvio Berlusconi. Prime minister Berlusconi’s political authority over public broadcasting, matched by his corporate authority over most of Italy’s major private media, gives him unprecedented governmental, political and economic control over the nation’s media. As may be expected, it is disputed whether this control is overtly applied by himself, or via members of the ruling People of Freedom political party, or covertly through his various alleged past and present private associations, including the outlawed P2 Masonic lodge, or indeed at all. Again the advantages may or may not be applied in his interest or in the interests of his many business associates. -

Bulletin of Italian Politics Vol. 4, No. 2, 2012, 305-322 Forecasting in the Politics of Spectacle, From Berlusconi to Grillo: The Narrative of Impolite Politics Christian Ruggiero University of Rome “La Sapienza” Abstract: Two highly significant strengths may be identified in Silvio Berlusconi’s communicative strategies during Italian general elections from 1994 to 2008: first, an innovative and skilful use of the narrative as political tool; second, the introduction of impoliteness into Italian political debates. This latter point may be viewed both as an expression of his ability to manage the political arena as a spectacle and as an innovative political skill in the era of visibility and political scandals. His forced retirement from government in 2011, and the subsequent season of understatement brought about by the technocratic government led by Mario Monti, has emphasised the communicative value, for a political leader able to create and manage them, of a narrative and code of impolite politics similar to that of Berlusconi. Such a leader could be identified in Beppe Grillo, whose MoVimento 5 Stelle achieved significant results in the 2012 local elections and dominated the political agenda mainly through Grillo's direct and impolite communicative style which addressed both his political opponents and the MoVimento's ‘dissident’ militants. What might happen when Grillo, the new Comedian, who already appears as a champion of impolite politics inaugurated by Berlusconi, runs against Berlusconi the old Comedian in the forthcoming general election? Introduction Silvio Berlusconi’s success in Italian politics can be attributed to three elements: being the first to understand the importance of self-managing one’s image; having the ability to build and develop a winning political narrative; being the only Italian politician convincingly to present himself as a ‘man of the people’.
