Suzanne Giraud with Caravaggio and Ludger Vollmer with Border are both looking forward to the world première performance of their fourth opera. Ubu is Sidney Corbett’s eighth opera, since Noach in 2001. The Estonian composer Jüri Reinvere has composed his first opera. Enno Poppe has already composed for the stage, but IQ will be his first opera. Moritz Eggert has already composed several chamber operas and more than ten ‘grand’ operas. Michael Nyman : Facing Goya , MN Records, MNRCD 121/122 with Winnie Böwe, Marie Angel, Hilary Summers, Harry Nicoll and Omar Ebrahim. Composed in 2000 and revised in 2002 for the Badische Staatstheater Karlsruhe. The opera is a thriller that follows one woman’s passionate search for the Spanish artist Francisco Goya’s missing skull. Recorded in London in 2001-2002. Thomas Pasatieri : The Seagull , Albany, Troy 579/580 with Raymond Ayers, Amy Gough, Amy Shoremount, Matthew Worth, Keri Behan. First performed in Houston on March 5, 1974. Based on Chekhov’s play, it dramatizes the romantic and artistic conflicts between four characters. Recorded live in New York in December 2002. Conducted by David Gilbert. Laurent Petitgirard : Joseph Merrick dit Elephant Man , Le Chant du Monde, MDC 2781139.40 with Nathalie Stutzmann, Nicolas Rivenq, Robert Breault, Marie Devellereau First performed in Prague on February 7, 2002. The libretto is based on the published biographies of Elephant Man, rather than Dr. Treves’ memoirs. Recorded in Monte-Carlo in May 1999. Conducted by the composer. The tormented life of the Finnish writer, from his happy childhood to his schizophrenic days and his death. Recorded in Suolahti in April 2002. Conducted by Markus Lehtinen. Harry Somers : Serinette , Centrediscs, CMCCD 76/7701 with Doug MacNaughton, Alain Coulombe, Marcia Swanston, Sally Dibblee First performed in Sharon on July 7, 1990. The libretto is based on characters and events of Upper Canada in the early 1800s, in a utopian farm community. Recorded in Toronto in 2001. Conducted by Victor Feldbrill. Oscar Strasnoy : El regreso , Actes Sud, M13/UR/1/1 with Hugo Oliveira, Mariana Rewerski and Ensemle Musicatreize. First performed in Aix-en-Provence in 2010. The libretto is based on Alberto Manguel’s novel. Recorded in 2010. Conducted by Roland Hayrabedian. In progress Shakespearean Opera Performance Guide This book will include all operas listed in previous studies as well as new operas composed in the last 20 years. It will give all information needed to perform it : characters with tessituras (and complete cast for the world première performance), complete orchestral setting, sets as described in libretto, duration, recordings, publishers. It is to be published before the Shakespeare anniversaries in 2014 (450th of his birth) and 2016 (400th of his death). COWARC holds a collection of more than 6,100 documents published by opera companies since 1989 with information about more than 132,000 performances. A great amount of information has also been gathered on Shakespearean operas from all times and all countries.

    G. Verdi — RIGOLETTO If the rest of the season matches this production in artistic quality, it's going to be one hell of a good season for opera in Boston! "This is the 8th season of touring in the U.S. for this hardworking European company, and its opening in Boston with Verdi's popular RIGOLETTO was a propitious occasion, indeed. With smart and colorful sets and a moody use of lighting this production had all the feel of big theater. The sets filled the stage of the Cutler Majestic fully and added to a mood for this production that was at times both elegant and at others ominous. But sets and lighting were not all that shone last night. The magic of this production was an outstanding cast that could not only sing, but act as well. I must acknowledge at the start the wonderfully honed instrument of Russian soprano Larissa Yudina, whom we saw dazzling the audience in last year's "The Magic Flute." She thrilled us then with her Queen of the Night rendition of "Der Halle Rache Kocht in Meinem Herzen" (The wrath of hell is burning in my bosom), and she thrilled us again last night as the vulnerable and innocent Gilda. Ms. Yudina is gifted with amazing tonal clarity and vocal agility, and she put it all to good use in a performance that was wonderfully moving in all the right places. Equally up to the task was baritone Vytautas Juozapaitis who's tortured characterization of Rigoletto was near flawless, strong and acted with intelligence and emotional depth.

    Merūnas Vitulskis Tenor The young tenor Merūnas Vitulskis was born in Kaunas, Lithuania. Graduated from Kaunas Vaizganto high school . He already began to sing in the seventh grade, encouraged by music teacher Giedre Druskienės. He deepened later his musical skills at Gruodis Conservatory. 2004-2006 he continued his studies and graduated at the Music Academy with the vocal teacher Ohn Antanavicius . 2006 the young tenor participated in the music reality show " Road to 2 stars "at the time he studied further to be opera singer at the Music Academy with professor Vytautas Juozapaitis . 2009 he started at the famous tenor Professor V. Noreika singing class. 2010 Merūnas Vitulskis became his Bachelor of vocal studies. Vocal training continues at the Music Academy until his graduation. At the Lithuania National TV famous musical project " The path to the stars 2 " the young Lithuanian became the most popular singer. Kalbėdami apie tarpukario Lietuvą mes pirmiausia prisimename kul- tūros įvykius ir žmones; šiandien net ginčijamės dėl paminklų jiems, įrašome kultūros reiškinius į pasaulio paveldo sąrašus. Tačiau dabar kultūra suprantama tik kaip fasadinis iškilmingas vakaras Valstybės dienos proga, ne pirmo būtinumo laisvalaikio forma, kuriai skirtos visuomenės lėšos gali būti atimtos ištikus bet kokiai krizei. Vìsos Lietuvos partijos kultūrą suprasdavo ir supranta kaip nebūtiną prabangą, kurią galima sau leisti patenkinus bazinius poreikius, nors seniai įrodyta esminė kultūros įtaka mažinant socialinę gyventojų atskirtį, priklausomybių ligų sukeliamas problemas, smurto apraiškas. Bet valdžiai reikia argumentuoti tik ekonomi- nę kultūros naudą, nors kultūringa visuomenė yra viena pagrindinių, jei ne svarbiausia šalies vystymosi sąlyga ir mūsų tapatybės, išskirtinumo pasaulyje pagrindas.     IEVA GAIDAMAVIČIŪTĖ Soprano Ieva Gaidamavičiūtė began to study music at the art school in Klaipėda, in 2008 she graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre as the choirmaster. Ieva Gaidamavičiūtė is in constant demand as a performer of early and classical music and is equally active in the field of contemporary music. She is also a member of Lithuanian chamber choir “Brevis”. Singer has performed at music festivals in Lithuania, Estonia, Germany, Italy, Russia, France, Spain, Belgium, etc. and has appeared as a soloist and choir member with symphony and chamber orchestras, under the direction of Sylvain Cambreling, Michael Andreas Gielen, Joshard Daus, Placido Domingo and Lithuanian conductors, including Juozas Domarkas, Saulius Sondeckis, Donatas Katkus, Martynas Staškus, Modestras Pitrėnas and Robertas Šervenikas in Lithuania. A singer has made many recordings for Lithuanian Radio, has sung in the concerts for Euroradio translations. RENATA DUBINSKAITĖ Mezzosoprano Renata Dubinskaite studied Art History and Theory at Vilnius Academy of Art, in 2002 gained a Master Degree. In 2011 she gained a degree of Doctor of Humanitarian Sciences at the Lithuanian Culture Research Institute. Dubinskaite started her musical career in 2009, in 2015 she finished her solo singing studies at the Lithuanian Music and Theatre Academy (professor Vladimiras Prudnikovas). Since 2010 she constantly performs in the „Duo Barocco“ and together with the Ensemble of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic House „Musica Humana“, she sang with the St. Christopher’s Chamber Music Orchestra, Belarussian State Chamber Orchestra and other orchestras under the conduction of Saulius Sondeckis, Algirdas Vizgirda, Vaclovas Augustinas and others, she also performed concerts in France and Switzerland.
