If today I strive to look at the world without prejudices, this is mostly because of you and I am grateful for that. John, for being always helpful, available, and especially patient when I needed extra explanations. It took me a while to master some techniques but you seraphically waited for me! Sandra, for regularly flooding my mind with waves of positive energy and a hail of brilliant insights whenever I got stuck. I felt supported even from another time zone. Eva, for being such an eager collaborator, but especially for having a nice word and a smile every time. You have this amazing ability of making people feel comfortable around you and I indeed felt that way working with you. The same goes for Åshild, the best field leader I could possibly have. I wanted my work to be a drop in the ocean of biological conservation. Working with you on the lesser white-fronted geese has been a privilege. I am inspired by the enthusiasm that, every summer, brings you up to Porsanger to give a chance to these fascinating, vulnerable birds. I hope that my contribution will turn out to be useful to you. I would like to thank Manolia, who I have not met yet but was awesomely helpful by sharing knowledge and data. A big thank you also to Marc and Michael, for making it easy for me to approach the world of integrated population modelling and for the authentic interest you showed in the goose study. I consider myself lucky to have joined you at Vogelwarte. Jarad recently joined the supervisor squad, but he deserves a separate paragraph. Thank you for being such a caring friend. For pushing me to look deeper, talk carefully, reconsider my assumptions, challenge my beliefs. And of course for all the steep lines we skied together. Christenson prepared the K'iche'-English Dictionary while conducting field work in highland Maya linguistics and ethnography from 1978-1985. He elicited his entries through collaboration with native K'iche' speakers in the communities of Momostenango (as well as its dependent aldeas of Canquixaja, Nimsitu, and Panca) and Totonicapan (and its dependent aldeas of Nimasak and Cerro de Oro). The dictionary is unpublished and is offered to FAMSI as a tool for research.     MeierMovies Short Films by Star Rating Theatrically released motion pictures of 40 minutes or less For every great feature, there’s a great short, and this list attempts to chronicle just some of those tiny masterpieces – and their not-so-masterful counterparts. For films to make this list, they must have played in at least one film festival or showcase, or theatrical venue, for a paying audience. Films shown only on television (or available only on DVD, Blu-ray, video or online) are reserved for my Television list. Also not included here are student films and similar projects that have never been presented at a theatrical venue that charged admission to viewers. (Please note that this is slightly more lenient than the qualifications for the feature- film lists, which require that a film of more than 40 minutes play at least two major festivals, or have a limited or general release.) Theatrical newsreels (pre-television) and theatrically released trailers are not eligible for this list, although mini-documentaries and travelogues (typically playing alongside trailers and B-features in the 1930-1950s) are. Short films shown at theme parks and museums are eligible, but not if they rely on animatronic/interactive/live elements. Shorts produced for timed competitions, such as 48-hour or 24-hour projects, are not included here, unless those films were subsequently screened at a second venue. The ratings system is the same as that of the feature-film list, just with no half or quarter stars. That difference is due to simplification and also to the fact that it’s admittedly difficult, and perhaps somewhat unfair, to compare a 2-minute film to a 40- minute one using quarter stars.
