In the Refectory there is one of the most famous paintings of Leonardo da Vinci: the “Last Supper”. The works of the fresco started in 1495 and finished in 1498. Monumental Cemetery Carlo Maciachini built the Monumental Cemetery between 1863 and 1866 at Porta Volta. Villa Reale (Royal Villa) One of the most important Milanese neo- classical buildings, the Royal Villa, was built in 1790 by Leopoldo Pollak. It has been the residence of Napolen and Josephine and also of Eugene Beauharnais and the General Radetzky. Pilasters and columns decorate all the building that is surrounded by an English- style garden. The insides are finely decorated with candelabras, sculptures, frescoes and other decorations typical of Lombard neo- classicism.

    THE END OF THE GREEK MILLET IN ISTANBUL Stanford f. Shaw HE o cc u PAT I o N o F Is TAN B u L by British, French, Italian, and Greek forces following signature of the Armistice of Mondros (30 October 1918) was supposed to be a temporary measure, to last until the Peace Conference meeting in Paris decided on the finaldisposition of Tthat city as well as of the entire Ottoman Empire. From the start, however, the Christian religious and political leaders in Istanbul and elsewhere in what remained of the Empire, often encouraged by the occupation forces, stirred the Christian minorities to take advantage of the occupation to achieve greater political aims. Greek nationalists hoped that the occupation could be used to regain control of "Constantinople" and annex it to Greece along with Izmir and much of western Anatolia. From the first day of the armistice and occupation, the Greek Patriarch held daily meetings in churches throughout the city arousing his flock with passionate speeches, assuring those gathered that the long­ held dream of restoring Hellenism to "Constantinople" would be realized and that "Hagia Sophia" (Aya Sofya) would once again serve as a cathedral. The "Mavri Mira" nationalist society acted as its propaganda agency in Istanbul, with branches at Bursa and Band1rma in western Anatolia and at K1rkkilise (Kirklareli) and Tekirdag in Thrace. It received the support of the Greek Red Cross and Greek Refugees Society, whose activities were supposed to be limited to helping Greek refugees.• Broadsides were distributed announcing that Istanbul was being separated from the Ottoman Empire.

During the days we spent at each project school, we could compare our school systems and teaching methods as well as learn something about our ways of life. The project has inspired many teachers to promote a healthy lifestyle. In some schools grants of physical education were strengthened. The most important in our project were opportunities to meet new friends among students and teachers, show them some places of interest in our countries, regions and schools. We all were enthusiastic about the cooperation. There were plenty of tears when our last day came and we had to say good bye. We will never forget the days spent with our new friends and we hope to visit our wonderful countries again in the future. Now finally we are here to show our final product.     Fish soup with Greek Alphabet Pasta Ingredients • 250 g HELIOS Greek Alphabet Pasta • 1.5 kg small white fish variety • 2 potatoes, coarsely diced • 2 carrots, into thick slivers • 1 zucchini, into thick slivers • 1/4 celery fresh bunch • 100 ml olive oil • juice of 3 lemons • salt • pepper Preparation Heat olive oil in a large pot. Add vegetables and fish. Stir in juice of two lemons. Once juice is absorbed, cover all ingredients with water. Simmer soup until fish is cooked through, and easily flakes apart. Strain into a large drainer, and then strain again using a thin sieve. Separate vegetables and remaining fish fillet. Bring soup back to a simmer and add pasta. Cook according to package directions. This thesis explores and evaluates the representation of ethnic minorities in Turkish fiction against a background of demographic, political, and social change. Within this context, novels and short stories of selected writers have been studied with a view to determining differences of experience, perception and attitude. The writers include: Huseyin Rahmi Giirpmar, Halide Edip Adivar, Re§at Nuri Guntekin, Halikarnas Bahk9isi, Orhan Kemal, Haldun Taner, Sait Faik, and Ya§ar Kemal. The thesis comprises an introduction, three chapters and a conclusion. The Introduction gives a brief overview of historical events relating to demographic changes and ethnic minority status, and looks at the popular perception of minorities in the Ottoman performance arts.

This work claims as a basic argument that the peace- based period which Venizelos and Ataturk established was the most important period of Greek- Turkish rapprochement.
