Children are very welcome – details of children’s activities today are in the order of service. for newcomers and visitors Welcome! At the 10.45am Cathedral Eucharist on Sunday, look for the welcome stewards in blue sashes, or ask a member of the stewarding team if there’s anything you’d like to know. Talk to the clergy after the service and stay on, if you can, for tea or coffee and a chance to meet other people. Buy something you haven’t tried from the Fair Trade stall (second Sundays of the month). Join a Cathedral group. Change the way you give your time or money to support the Cathedral’s life and work. News and Notices LENT EVENSONG SERMON SERIES At Sunday Evensongs in March a series of preachers will preach on their favourite hymn by John Bell and Graham Maule. As members of the Wild Goose Resource Group, a semi-autonomous project of the Iona Community, John and Graham have together written a rich collection of new hymns often set to traditional hymn tunes or folk melodies. John Bell will be our Guest Preacher at the Cathedral during Holy Week. The preacher this evening is Canon Sheana Barby, on the hymn ‘Jesus Christ is waiting’. THE PILGRIM PASSPORT has arrived and is available for sale in The Sanctuary priced at only £5.00. Once purchased, you are able to ask cathedrals for a sticker or a stamp to record your visit and there is space in the passport to note your own impressions and responses. We hope the passport will encourage people to visit other cathedrals and sites such as abbeys and places of pilgrimage. Pick yours up and start visiting! LENT & WEDNESDAY GROUPS The Bridge Chapel Lent Group will meet in the Sir Richard Morris Lounge from 2.30 – 4.00 pm on Wednesday 4th March, Tuesday 10th March, Monday 16th March, Thursday 26th March, and Wednesday 1st April. The Wednesday Group meets on Wednesday evenings (7.00 pm – 8.00 pm) in The Sanctuary. Both groups will be reading the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Lent book, Saying Yes to Life, by Ruth Valerio MUSIC AND SILENCE led by ‘Sixtus’ will be held on Tuesday 3rd March, 7.00 – 9.00 pm in the Cathedral. An opportunity to sing as a group and learn music from the Taizé and Iona communities. After gentle body and voice warm-ups and a sung round, short songs and chants will be taught in four- part harmony. After an interval and refreshments, the music is sung in a more contemplative fashion. All are welcome, there is no charge. RISE! TAKE YOUR MAT AND WALK. This year's Derby City Centre service for the World Day of Prayer will take place on Friday 6th March at 11am at St Joseph's Catholic Church, Burton Road, Derby, DE1 1TJ. All are welcome to join us for this service, which this year is written by the women of Zimbabwe. There is a church car park and a light lunch will follow the service. There will be a FAIRTRADE STALL after the Eucharist on Sunday 8th March, selling a selection of Fairtrade goods. Come and have a browse, and get your Easter eggs and cards! If you are interested in helping out two or three Sundays a month, please speak to people on the stall A COLLECTION and CARD for the Bishop of Repton are both available in the Cathedral, one to contribute to, one to sign. Bishop Jan is moving on from the Diocese of Derby to become Residentiary Canon (House for Duty) at Lichfield Cathedral and Honorary Assistant Bishop in the Diocese of Lichfield. Bishop Jan will preach at Evensong at Derby Cathedral on Sunday 8th March at 6.00 pm and hopes to be able to say a less formal farewell after that service. She will be installed in Lichfield Cathedral at Evensong (5.30 pm) on Friday 3rd April. Everyone is welcome to both these services. WALK WELL DERBY Would you like to help people in your community to get active and healthy? If you enjoy walking and have a few spare hours per week then why not become a Volunteer Walk Leader. Full training and support is provided. The next training course is on Monday 9th March at 9.30 am at Whitecross House Commuinty Room, off Kedleston Road. Members of the Multi- Faith Centre are pleased to invite people to the Museum and Art Gallery, The Strand, Derby on Tuesday 10th March from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm to see and hear leaders of various faith traditions introducing their favourite religious or cultural objects in the Wold Collections Gallery; objects of love, hope and fear. All are welcome and there is no charge. CATHEDRAL ELECTORAL ROLL: Everyone who has regularly worshipped at the Cathedral for over six months is entitled to be on the Cathedral Electoral Roll. If you want to check that you are on the current roll, please check with the Vergers, who have a copy of the roll. If you wish to join the Electoral and/or the Cathedral Community Rolls, please collect a form from the Vergers and return to Kim Milner. Please also notify Kim of any changes to details we hold at the Cathedral Office,01332 341201, [email protected]. The rolls will close to any revisions, additions or deletions on Monday 16th March in preparation for the AGM on Sunday 3rd May BACH’S ST JOHN PASSION will be sung by the Cathedral choir on Good Friday 10th April at 7.00 pm in the Cathedral.
