The , Jan McFarlane, chair of the Sandford St. Martin Trust, said, “One of the indisputable broadcasting highlights of the 2018 royal wedding was Bishop Curry’s sermon. His words were broadcast around the world and were instrumental in shining a spotlight on the central role faith plays in the wider social discourse, and on how religion can be both hugely engaging and unifying for the public.” An estimated 1.9 billion people worldwide heard Bishop Curry remind us all, “Love is the way.”

I am a great believer in practice. Do I like to practice? No, I do not. But, I know practicing helps me get better at doing something. One of the examples from my own life has to do with prayer, specifically extemporaneous prayer, or prayer without a book. The first time I remember being asked to pray without the Book of Common Prayer, was at the bedside of someone critically ill. The Day of Pentecost Sunday, June 9 We will have ONE SERVICE ONLY at 10 a.m. The color of the day is RED

PENTECOST commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit in the form of flames to the Apostles. The Holy Spirit allowed the apostles to speak in other languages, and they started preaching the word of Jesus to the Jews who were in Jerusalem for the feast of Shavuot (Pentecost). Many Christians recognize the Descent of the Holy Spirit as the birth of the Church.

A group of five to seven volunteers arrive in the kitchen in All Saints Hall. They fill paper sacks with two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chips, and a cookie. By 8:30 people will begin to come. Some live in the neighborhood, some are homeless. Many have mental health issues and lack treatment. Recently, more are women— and after school ends, more women and children will come. They don't have enough money to buy the food they need, so they depend on the Sandwich Ministry for at least this one meal. For more than 10 years, volunteers have come, and hungry people have come. Every month, 500 or more of them come, every month, for over 10 years. The volunteers come, too, because they know this ministry, though small in some ways (last year the cost to the Cathedral was about $2,500-3,000 dollars), is so important to those who come. The volunteers want to know if there's more we can do for our neighbors. Jesus asked Peter, “Do you love me?” Peter answered, “Lord, you know that I do.” Then Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.”
