  • MCB Deliverable 2.3A FINAL
DELIVERABLE 2.3a Report on Data Analysis: Brussels’ media industry Marlen Komorowski – April 2017 (postponed from Oct 15) Part of Work Package 2: Media organisations’ characteristics and value chains Powered by Media Clusters Brussels – MCB – is a collaborative and interdisciplinary research project of the Brussels Capital Region involving the three leading universities of Brussels, VUB, ULB and USL-B. The aim is to analyse the many facets of the media industry located in the Brussels Capital Region and explore the development of clusters. The Projet de Plan Régional de Développement Durable / Ontwerp van Gewestelijk Plan voor Duurzame Ontwikkeling for Brussels (2013), approved by the Brussels Regional Government on 12th December 2013, identifies the cultural and creative industries as one of the four key sectors of the metropolitan economy, and more specifically proposes a media city at Reyers as the first strategic cluster (Pôle Reyers) to develop. However, despite the fact that the Brussels Region is committed to foster the development of the media sector, there is up until now hardly any empirical data available about the structure and dynamics of the media industry in Brussels. This project aims at creating socio- economic value for the media industry in the Brussels Region and beyond by providing decision-makers with the in-depth knowledge they need regarding the media industry in Brussels while accompanying the phases of implementation of the Pôle Reyers. The overarching research question is: How can the structure and dynamics of the media sector in the Brussels metropolis be enhanced to improve its social and economic roles? MCB is divided in six Work Packages.

Environmental report 2018 ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT 3 Foreword Brussels Airport wants to grow in a sustainable and balanced way. As defined in our Strategic Vision 2040, we study the potential impact of each project on our environment. In addition, we try to listen to the needs and concerns of our neighbours. Forum 2040 - a consultation platform in which around 80 stakeholders participated - has yielded many interesting insights. Based on this input, we are currently carrying out additional studies. One of our primary goals remains the reduction of our CO2 emissions. With considerable pride I can report that, during the annual congress of ACI World and ACI Europe, Brussels Airport was proclaimed a carbon neutral airport. We have achieved this status thanks to investments in energy efficient and renewable energy projects, the purchase of exclusively green electricity and innovative carbon offset projects. We are also increasingly collaborating with our external partners to reduce carbon emissions that are beyond our control. Dear reader, In 2018 we will continue to work on an integrated and It is with great pleasure that I present to you the ambitious sustainability policy. • Northern Rail Link from Brussels Airport | TUC RAIL
Northern rail link from Brussels Airport Description The northern link from Brussels Airport is designed to achieve a significant increase in the market share held by passenger transport services ‘by rail’ to and from the national airport, thereby curbing the ever-increasing volumes of traffic on the road network around the airport. Towards this end, further links to the airport have to be created, while the capacity of the Brussels-National-Airport station is being boosted. The scheme to allow completely unhindered access to destinations by rail from Brussels Airport is called the Diabolo project. In late 2005 the first phase of the extension of the rail infrastructure to the airport was launched with the building of ‘the Nossegem curve’, to allow trains from Leuven/Liege to travel directly to the airport. Between 2007 and 2012 the second phase involved creating the northern link. This consisted of: 1. boosting the capacity of the existing Brussels-National-Airport underground station by establishing a transfer hub there and extending the existing platform tracks; 2. an additional connection between this expanded station and Mechelen/Antwerp; 3. an additional connection between this expanded station and Brussels; 4. a new railway line 25N between Schaarbeek-Vorming and Mechelen. The northern access was commissioned in mid-2012. In a final phase, line 36C/2 between the Machelen-Zuid and Keelbeek branch lines was completed. This railway line is a crucial link in the connection between the Brussels- Schuman and Brussels Airport stations. This
