These discourses reflect the symbols, meanings and ideas inherent in the group. By emphasizing ideas that are significant to the group and marginalizing what are not, these discourses represent the imaginary of the consumption-based group. This paper examines the Philippine video gaming community's imaginary, and argues that its dominant discourse is one that not only emphasizes video games, but accommodates other popular culture forms such as anime, manga, comic books and even cosplay, which are traditionally considered separate from video games. The paper selected three prominent Philippine video game publications to represent the discourse. These publications are Game!, which is published monthly and is the most widely distributed video gaming print magazine in the country, and has a readership of over 150,000. Also examined was Playground, which, recently shifted from being a print publication to an online one, with its website being updated everyday. The third publication is GameOPS, the oldest online video game publication in the Philippines, which is updated at least once every two days.

Através de uma revisão da literatura sobre o tema, combinada com um mapeamento inicial dos títulos japoneses e sul-coreanos que figuram na referida plataforma em sua versão brasileira, ficou perceptível a empreitada em curso da Netflix de se consolidar como uma media- dora audiovisual global e a relevância dos mercados centrais do Leste Asiático e não anglófonos, na constituição do seu catálogo internacional e brasileiro. The study also explored on- and off- campus experiences, and this section revealed difficulties interacting with American roommates and public service members.     AFRICA UNIVERSE AFRICA UNIVERSE 4 5 AFRICA UNIVERSE During the last two decades there has been a rise of interest in the work of contemporary Afri- can artists, who eventually became a solid part of the global artistic community. We have re- cently recognized and became conscious of the ‘Africa Universe’ – a kaleidoscopic universe able to speak to the whole world, even if built from complex visual and cultural codes. Once on the margins of the mainstream narratives, today, the work of African artists is featured in the evolving discourse of contemporary art. From publications to biennales and exhibitions in the most prestigious museums, from academic research to new curatorial methodologies and pro- grams, from auction houses to commercial art galleries - the world’s attention has been focused on Contemporary African Art. In the current cultural, social and political context, we observe important shifts of power and knowledge, once exclusively reserved to the West. Over the centuries, we have been exercising the self-affirmation of Western identity through the intellectual discrimination of non-European societies. However, the theory of ‘Otherness’ discussed by Edward W. Said in the Orientalism from 1978, is gradually vanishing, as we are trying to stop patronizing the cultural representa- tions based upon fictional, Western images of “the Others”. This kind of discursive control ap- plied also to the history of art, a discipline, which excluded many talented artists from the litera- ture and which in consequence is finally being revisited. The dialectics about art, but not only, is steadily changing and we are fortunate enough to observer this epoch-making intellectual and cultural transition.

    Cities, Autonomy, and Decentralization in Japan Japan is known as a country in which a potent central power reigns over a compliant hierarchy and, for planning, this has meant strong centralized government control. Nevertheless, examples of autonomy have always existed in the politics, society, and economy of Japan and thrive today in various forms, particularly within urban areas. Following the growth and subsequent collapse of the bubble economy in the early 1990s, and in response to globalization, new trends toward local autonomy and political and economic decentralization are emerging that must be evaluated in the context of Japan’s larger political and socioeconomic setting as it becomes increasingly integrated into the global system. Cities, Autonomy, and Decentralization in Japan addresses these new initia- tives, providing a cogent compilation of case studies focusing on the past, present, and future of decentralization in Japan. These include small-scale developments in fields such as citizen participation machizukuri( ), urban form and architecture, disaster prevention, and conservation of monuments.
