This year’s class includes: Ron Haden '95 (Men’s Basketball), Mike Mastovich '85 (Meritorious Service), Sally Mosay '89 (Women’s Basketball), Brandon Newill '02 (Wrestling), and Ben Watkins '10 (Baseball). Pitt-Johnstown will also recognize all of the former Hall of Fame inductees and former student-athletes in attendance. The Pitt-Johnstown Athletics Hall of Fame was created in 2007 to honor prestigious groups of athletes, coaches, and university supporters and their champion spirits. These individuals merit distinction for their accomplishments and leadership in athletic endeavors for Pitt-Johnstown. Since its inception in 2007, 62 individuals and three teams have earned induction. The reception is 5:45 p.m. in the Sports Center Hall of Fame Room and dinner is 7 p.m. in the Wellness Center Speaking at this year’s event will be Pitt-Johnstown President Dr. Jem Spectar, Athletic Director and college wrestling’s all- time winningest coach Pat Pecora, and Assistant Athletic Director Abby Gearhart.     OTR FACTS CAMBRIA COUNTY i. In 1983, Johnstown was the location for the filming of “All the Right Moves”, starring Tom Cruise, Leah Thompson, and Craig T. Nelson. ii. Grandview Cemetery is one of Pennsylvania’s largest cemeteries. It also holds the remains of the 777 victims of the 1889 Johnstown Flood who were not identified. iii. In the early 1900’s Patton was home to Patton Clay Works. It’s bricks were used in construction of the Panama Canal and the “Patton Pavers” were used around the Eiffel Tower in Paris. iv. Bishop Carroll was the first Bishop in America. The town of Carrolltown is named after this religious leader. v. In November 1922, the Reilly Shaft No. 1 mine explosion occurred in Northern Cambria killing 78 coal miners. vi. One of the first buildings in Cresson was the Mountainhouse Hotel. It was built to attract visitors looking for clean air and therapeutic mineral springs. It was demolished in 1916. vii. Rear Admiral Robert Edwin Peary Sr, best known for traveling to the North Pole, was born in Cresson. viii. The town of Portage is named for the function of canal boats being lifted out of the water in Hollidaysburg, and placed onto railroad cars and “portaged” over the Allegheny Mountain. ix. Edgar Cortright, former director of the NASA Langley Research Center and Chairman of the Apollo 13 Review Board was born in Hastings. x.
