  • SEDER MEAL PLANNING So You Want to Have a Traditional Passover
Page 1 SEDER MEAL PLANNING So you want to have a traditional Passover Seder dinner? It is very advantageous to start at least 2 months in advance of the date for the dinner. If you are using this as an outreach to witness to nonbelievers, is also wise to plan to have it on the second night of Passover week so that you can invite your Jewish friends who probably will be having their family dinner on the first night of Passover. After you have picked the night then you must find a room big enough for the number of people you will be able to handle. There should be easy access to a kitchen also for cooking, and clean up after the meal. We have found that the table size should not exceed 8 so that each table could represent a family unit. Decide whether to use paper and plastic or more formal china, silverware and glass glasses. Linen table cloths or paper must also be chosen. You will need to have people in charge of music, food, program, hospitality, set up, clean up, and publicity. In the following pages I will tell you how to plan and prepare the food part of the Seder. First pick the menu. I have given as an example the Seder we did in 2002 for 180 people. Most churches want to have lamb as the meat, but do not realize that Jesus is the sacrifice and there is no more sacrifice for sin so there is no lamb for Passover. There is also no more temple to sacrifice the lamb at.

Without each of your willingness to invite me into your homes and share your stories, this thesis would not have been possible. Kaja, I thank you especially for your continued support and guidance. Next, I want to give a shout-out to my family and friends, especially my fellow thesis writers, who listened to me talk about my thesis constantly and without a doubt saw the bulk of my negative stress reactions. Thank you all for being such a great support system. It is my hope that at least one of you will read this- here’s looking at you, Mom. Third, I would like to thank Professor Waterhouse for sticking with me throughout this entire process. I could not have done this without your constant kind words and encouragement (though I could have done without your negative commentary about Billy Joel). Thank you for making this possible. Finally, I extend the largest thank you to my wonderful thesis advisors, Professor Karen Auerbach and Professor Chad Bryant.

  • Farm Share Newsletter 2015 Week 12
Dear Farm Share Members, Thanks to everyone who came out to the Westbury Garden yesterday to go on farm tours, pick strawberries, and visit with Westbury farmers and Plant it Forward staff. It was a beautiful and windy day and we had a wonderful time! We had farm tours every 15 minutes or so. Groups of 10-15 learned about our program and garden at Westbury, learned about our strawberry project with Texas Ag Extension, and then were able to pick their own container of strawberries. Once their container was full, they weighed and recorded the weight of the strawberries. The total amount of strawberries picked on Sunday was…drum roll please…. 436 oz. or 27.25 lbs.! These data will be given to the Texas Ag Extension. We also munched on a salad made mostly of Plant It Forward produce. We received feedback from a few folks that this was just what they needed to get them out to the farm. Other folks were happy that their children were able to make a connection between their weekly vegetables and the farm where they are grown. Those who did not make it- you were missed and we hope you make it to the next event. Please click here to view all pictures from Sunday. Photography courtesy of Sirel White. “It’s not the Holidays without Eli’s.” ROSH HASHANAH & YOM KIPPUR CATERING A Break the Fast Classic Catering ROSH HASHANAH & YOM KIPPUR Whether Rosh Hashanah arrives early—like this year: September 6!—or not until October, Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur forever signify for me the end of Summer and the true beginning of Fall. No matter the weather, I don’t get into an autumn mindset till these two holidays are behind us. I know we’ll be together as a family to break the fast on September 16th. My brothers and I will discuss the quality and availability of smoked fish as we do every year, tell smokehouse stories—my brother Saul went to the smokehouses every week for years and years—and while none of us do that now, we still take a lot of interest in the fish we sell and the fish we eat. Need to turn your Labor Day barbecue into a Erev Rosh Hashanah family dinner? Need help going from summer’s ease to autumn obligations? The Catering Department here at Eli’s is ready to talk you through the menus and ingredients you’ll want to use to usher in the season ahead.
