The plan covers rail, highway, airport, freight and integrated transport. Rail plan to address: journeys too slow – particularly east to west overcrowding infrequency of services poor rolling stock – access for all peak times – overcrowding north to south Northern Hub and Electrification is the 1st phase of the Northern Powerhouse ~ £2BN investment. Leading to the overall investment of £10BN to the Northern Powerhouse by 2033 - linked to the benefits of HS2. 8th Dec 2015 / 3 Rolling Stock comparison Japan France Germany London North of England (Wigan) 8th Dec 2015 / 4 Learning Lessons developing the Northern Powerhouse Northern Hub & North West Electrification 8th Dec 2015 / 5 Northern Hub & NW Electrification Overview 8th Dec 2015 / 6 The biggest intervention since Stevenson Benefit cost ratio 4:1 8th Dec 2015 / 7 High-Level Scope LNW North electrification 6,088 masts 954 booms 360 SEUs 223 bridges [Overline] 39 stations 6 tunnels 7009 foundations 181.6 single track miles 8th Dec 2015 / 8 Train arrival dates Allerton Depot 30th December 2013 First 350/4 in passenger service March 2015 refurbished Class 319 in passenger service 8th Dec 2015 / 9 Northern Hub: Existing Constraint 8th Dec 2015 / 10 Northern Hub – Strategic choices 1) Flyover at Ardwick 2) route trains via Victoria 8th Dec 2015 / 11 Castlefield Curve (1978) 8th Dec 2015 / 12 8th Dec 2015 / 13 8th Dec 2015 / 14 Central Manchester Interventions 8th Dec 2015 / 15 Northern Hub & North West Electrification Milestones Phase Original Current Comments 1 Manchester to Earlestown December 2013 December 2013 COMPLETE 2a Earlestown to Liverpool December 2014 March 2015 COMPLETE 2b Liverpool to Wigan December 2014 March 2015 COMPLETE 2c Manchester Victoria December 2014 May 2015 COMPLETE 3 Preston to Blackpool September 2016 May 2018 4 Preston to Manchester December 2016 December 2017 5a Manchester to Stalybridge December 2016 December 2017 5b Guide bridge to Stalybridge December 2016 December 2017 Work Packages Original Current Comments A: Ordsall Chord/ Lane/ Man Vic December 2016 August 2017 West B: Manchester Airport December 2016 March 2015 COMPLETE C: Piccadilly and Oxford road December 2018 TBC 8th Dec 2015 / 16 Hendy report - Milestones 8th Dec 2015 / 17 Northern Hub & Electrification Works Completed to Date and Underway IMECHE Video 8th Dec 2015 / 18 LNW North West Electrification Programme Phases 1& 2A & 2B & 2C Track lowers without drainage – leading to track issues Journey Time Improvements – track quality on DSE chat moss Electric trains enable 33min journey between Liverpool and Manchester 8th Dec 2015 / 19 Huyton and Roby four tracking 8th Dec 2015 / 20 Manchester Airport Drainage connection – ground conditions EIS – OLE clearance on Platforms and EMC Ongoing learning lessons on entry into service and certification by ORR/ NCB / 21 Northern Hub & Electrification Work Packages – Up and Coming 8th Dec 2015 / 22 8th Dec 2015 / 23 Ordsall Chord - Constraints & Heritage 8th Dec 2015 / 24 Ordsall Chord Overview – Existing Situation Chat Moss DSE Viaduct COL Bolton Line 25 8th Dec 2015 / 25 Ordsall Chord Heritage Impact Assessment • Key GRIP3 activity Stakeholder engagement • Civil engineering remit is to avoid the grade I and II listed structures, and local residential flats whilst not compromising the constructability of the structures. • Track to consider exceptional design values 8th Dec 2015 / 26 Ordsall Chord Key Stakeholders Consultation Alignment Chat Moss DSE Viaduct GRIP 2 Developed Option 14 COL Bolton Line 27 8th Dec 2015 / 27 8th Dec 2015 / 28 Ordsall Chord 26 March 2015, following an 18 month period of public consultation and a Public Inquiry held in spring 2014, the Secretary of State for Transport approved our application for a Transport and Work's Act Order for the powers needed to deliver the Ordsall Chord 8th Dec 2015 / 29 Ordsall Chord August 2017 8th Dec 2015 / 30 Stephenson’s Grade 1 listed Bridge 8th Dec 2015 / 31 Chord modelling Vampire Modelling BIM Fly through video • Inform componentry recommendations, • Maintenance considerations, such as: grinding regime, lubrication • providing support for the application of maximised cant deficiency Dynamis Modelling 8th Dec 2015 / 32 Manchester Victoria West April 2016 8 no point ends, non standard scissors curved at east end, 800m new plain line, 400m slue, interface with structures waterproofing 8th Dec 2015 / 33 Ordsall Lane Jcn.
