Rural Derbyshire School Sport Partnership Aspire, Achieve, Advance NEWSLETTER – JUNE 2015 Working together to increase participation in PE and Sport with Anthony Gell, Highfields, Hope Valley College, Lady Manners & Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar INCLUSIVE SPORT IS THE AIM OF THE GAME Inclusive sporting competitions take place in Wirksworth and Buxton RDSSP Boccia Final - Students across the Derbyshire Dales and High Peak have come together to enjoy two Boccia-focused tournaments aimed at bridging the gap for inclusive sport across the county. The RDSSP held its annual open Boccia competition at Anthony Gell School in Wirksworth on Friday 15th May. Eight teams including the host school, Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Ashbourne, Matlock’s Highfields School, Lady Manners School in Bakewell and Belper’s Alderwasley Hall School came together for the contest. The competition also saw a school team from Hartington C of E Primary School take part; the first time ever a primary school has fielded a team in the long standing event. Teams played three pool matches followed by semi-final play offs between the top two teams in each pool. This resulted in an exciting final between Anthony Gell Blue team and Alderwasley’s team, with Gell taking the gold medal by seven points to three. Highfields A team came in third place. Multi-games event - A second Boccia inspired event took place at the Devonshire Dome in Buxton on Wednesday 20th May. This was a joint festival between the RDSSP and the High Peak School and Sport Partnership with a Boccia tournament and other activities including mini golf, Taekwondo, athletics and information on scuba diving. RDSSP member schools attended including All Saints C of E Juniors School in Matlock as well as Longstone, Hartington, Wirksworth and Rowsley. Teaching assistant at Longstone C of E School, Judy Dilks said: “I think events like this are great for students to improve their own personal targets, work as a team and improve fitness. We’ve made a banner with our school logo and incorporated all the things we think sporting events help to improve. For example team work, confidence and making friends, being proud of achievements, leadership and inclusive activities.” Toby, 8, from Longstone C of E School: “I have played similar games like bowls but never Boccia before. I have really enjoyed the day.” Kieran, 8, from All Saints Junior School in Matlock: “I have played Boccia before with my granddad and I really like playing it. I would like to have a go at all of the other sports here as well including golf, scuba diving and athletics.” Free PE and Sport inclusion training delivered by 9-time Paralympic medallist Paralympic swimming hero, Martin Mansell is set to deliver FREE sports and PE inclusion training to commemorate the Olympic / Paralymic Games in Rio next year. The Sainsbury’s Active Kids for All Inclusive PE Project is a training initiative designed to improve the quality of PE provision for young disabled people in mainstream and special schools in the UK. The initiative provides inclusive PE training and resources to teachers, trainee teachers and learning support assistants throughout the UK. Following the course you will receive a certificate from the Youth Sport Trust that is CPD linked. Vice President of the International Federation of Adapted Physical Activity (IFAPA), Martin Mansell will deliver around three hours worth of training at your school. Working together to increase participation in PE and Sport with Anthony Gell, Highfields, Hope Valley College, Lady Manners & Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar Anthony Gell students hit the back of the net! Our congratulations go to students from Anthony Gell School after they won the Derbyshire County Football Plus competition. Youngsters took part in the tournament on Thursday 14th May at John Port School in Etwall, South Derbyshire. The competition saw 10 teams taking part across two different ability levels; with Anthony Gell in the higher Championship league. The team came top of their league so progressed to the final where they faced the leaders of the other championship group, a team from Tupton Hall School in Chesterfield, and they came out victorious. Teaching assistant, Ben Gaskin, said: “The boys did really, really well. They won every game and always encouraged each other, showing great sportsmanship as well by shaking hands with the opposite team after every match. They came home with gold medals and a trophy.” Best of luck Clifton! – Clifton C of E Primary School swimming team heading to national finals We are sending our very best wishes to students from Clifton C of E Primary School, part of the RDSSP, as they prepare to compete in the English Schools’ Swimming Association annual Primary Schools’ Team Championships in Sheffield. Eddie Archer, Zizi Peck, Patrick Welsh and Alex Holt [pictured] will represent the East Midlands Division in both freestyle and mixed stroke relays at the competition at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre on Saturday 20th June. Ashbourne and District Swimming Club has been supporting the youngsters with extra training in the run up to the big day. They qualified for the finals after coming second in the small schools sections of the English Schools’ Swimming Association Relay Championships in Louth (Lincolnshire) on Friday 24th April. Head Teacher, Heidi Daughtry said: “I am very proud of our team’s achievements. They worked excellently together representing the school and the area outstandingly well. The children and I look forward to them swimming at Sheffield - for a small rural school this is a fantastic opportunity to compete at National Level.” NATIONAL SCHOOL SPORTS WEEK The week beginning Monday 22 June is National School Sports Week and there’s lots going on across the RDSSP to tie in with the special event: Mon 22 June: Primary County Girls Kwik Cricket Final at Derby; SSP under 13 Boys cricket competition at Darley Dale Cricket Club; QEGS host Under 15 County Rounders; Wed 24 June: Secondary Quad Kids Athletics at Lady Manners School, Bakewell; Thu 25 June: Primary Cyclo-cross event at Highfields – hosted by British Cycling. Last year, around a million young people took part in the week, where thousands of schools across the country made a pledge to get more involved in physical activity, school sport and celebrate school achievement. All schools who sign up this year will receive free resources, toolkits and ideas to help run an exciting sporting week that will inspire all your pupils and have the chance to win visits from Olympic and Paralympic athletes!     Rep 769 DERBYSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL Agenda item 6 SCHOOLS FORUM 19 th June 2019 Report of the Executive Director for Children’s Services High Needs Provision – Notional SEN budgets & SEN Contingency funding 1. Purpose of the Report - This report asks the Forum to consider: (i) updating the LA’s notional SEN budget calculations; and (ii) whether or not to adopt revised calculations to determine school & academies’ eligibility for support from the SEN contingency fund. 2. Information and Analysis 2.1 Notional SEN budgets – The national position In 2013-14 the greater standardisation of local authorities’ funding formulae for mainstream schools resulted in the introduction of a requirement for local authorities to delegate sufficient funding to meet the costs of SEN support up to £6,000 per pupil, per annum. In recognition of that expectation, both local funding formulae and the new schools national funding formula include factors relevant to additional needs, which act as proxies for a school’s cohort of pupils who need extra support, including those with SEN. The additional needs factors in the national funding formula give schools about £6 billion nationally. This is intended to ensure mainstream schools have the resources they require as part of their core budgets. Despite the advent of the introduction of the national funding formula for mainstream schools, the DfE have continued to allow local authorities flexibility on how local notional SEN budgets should be calculated. Questions 6 to 8 of the DfE’s SEND Call for Evidence seeks views on the merits of a notional SEN budget, including whether a national calculation should be adopted.

The industry’s greatest period came in the late sixteenth century, after technical improvements and an expansion of the trade, and lasted until the late eighteenth century. This is an examination of the working of the industry and of developments during these two centuries. From the sixteenth century onwards there is a large body of written material arising from the way in which the industry was organised. This book is largely based on such documentary evidence preserved in the Derbyshire Record Office and the Derbyshire County Library, in particular the archive accumulated over several centuries by the Gell family of Hopton, now in the DRO, and the microfilm copy of the Wolley manuscripts in the Local Studies Library at Matlock.

    Rep 680 Agenda item 7 Schools Forum – 10 th November 2016 School Sixth Forms - The 14-19 landscape and the diversification of School / College provision 1. Purpose To inform Schools Forum of the challenges faced by School Sixth Forms following changes in Government policy and funding, including the growth of University Technical Colleges (UTCs), Studio Schools, Free Schools and Technical Academies. 2. Policy background The school system has changed significantly over the last five years, with changes to Government funding of Post-16 education in particular being a considerable challenge. Not all the change is recent; Academies, UTCs and Studio Schools for instance were all around in various stages of development prior to 2010. The current school sector, however, is designed to give parents greater choice and schools greater freedom. Currently there exists: • Over 2,000 Academies now open in England • 291 Free Schools now open and 141 in the pipeline – DfE target 500 by 2020 • 34 Studio Schools now open with one in the pipeline • 45 UTCs open. Definitions for these new types of organisations • Academies – Primary and Secondary Schools who are no longer part of the Local Authority are directly funded by the EFA and have additional responsibilities. • University Technical Colleges – Offering provision to students aged 14-19yrs, specialising in technical / vocational studies. Provision is full time, combining practical and academic studies which are delivered in work related context. A UTC has a maximum of 600 students.

FREE training for teachers, teaching assistants and midday supervisors for SSP affiliated schools School staff in Derbyshire Dales are giving the thumbs up to Continual Professional Development (CPD) PE and activity training sessions. 23 teachers and teaching assistants from more than 20 schools have enjoyed two half day courses in outstanding PE & gymnastics. PE Specialist at Longstone C of E Primary School, Linzi Gaywood said: “Good demonstrations and physically experiencing parts of the lesson were the most useful parts of the course – it was very enjoyable and informative.” Cathy Walsh from St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Matlock said: “The most useful part of the course was seeing how the apparatus can be used and how to use it progressively.     Agenda Item 3 Rep 786 DERBYSHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL SCHOOLS FORUM 26th November 2019 Report of the Executive Director for Children’s Services School Block Funding 2020-21 1. Purpose of the Report To inform the Schools Forum of the provisional schools block settlement for 2020-21 and potential implications for Derbyshire. 2. Information and Analysis As part of the government’s Spending Round 2019, the Chancellor of the Exchequer confirmed to Parliament that funding for schools and high needs will, compared to 2019- 20, rise by £2.6 billion for 2020-21, £4.8 billion for 2021-22, and £7.1 billion for 2022-23. On 11th October 2019 the DfE released provisional DSG funding levels for 2020-21 for each LA. Final allocations will be published in December to reflect the October 2019 pupil census. This paper focusses on the schools block, papers for the other blocks are covered elsewhere on tonight’s agenda. 2.1 Schools Block increase The government have announced the mainstream National Funding Formula (NFF) multipliers for 2020-21. Details of the current and new values are shown in Appendix 1. These increased multipliers feed directly into the calculation of the 2020-21 Schools Block budgets for each LA. By way of background, the provisional LA-level Schools Block for each sector is derived as a unit rate (Primary/Secondary Unit of Funding (PUF/SUF)) multiplied by the October 2018 pupil census. The PUF/SUF values have been derived by calculating schools’ NFF budgets for 2019-20, summing the individual amounts and dividing the aggregate total by the October 2018 pupil count.
