Rouland Washington, D.C. 2014 ENGAGING THE WORLD The ENGAGING THE WORLD series focuses on U.S. involvement around the globe, primarily in the post-Cold War period. It includes peacekeeping and humanitarian missions as well as Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom—all missions in which the U.S. Air Force has been integrally involved. It will also document developments within the Air Force and the Department of Defense. It provides essential information for an understanding of how this isolated country has, over centuries, become a battleground for world powers. Milby 2006 ABSTRACT Soccer playing style has not been addressed in detail in the academic literature, as playing style has often been dismissed as the aesthetic element of the game. Brief mention of playing style is considered when discussing national identity and gender. Through a literature research methodology and detailed study of game situations, this dissertation addresses a definitive definition of playing style and details the cultural elements that influence it. A case study analysis of German and Brazilian soccer exemplifies how cultural elements shape, influence, and intersect with playing style. Eight signature elements of playing style are determined: tactics, technique, body image, concept of soccer, values, tradition, ecological and a miscellaneous category. Each of these elements is then extrapolated for Germany and Brazil, setting up a comparative binary. Literature analysis further reinforces this contrasting comparison. Both history of the country and the sport history of the country are necessary determinants when considering style, as style must be historically situated when being discussed in order to avoid stereotypification. Historic time lines of significant German and Brazilian style changes are determined and interpretated. -

Public Safety Broadband Network War Game #1 Results Textron Washington, D.C. Office May 23-24, 2012 ©2012 Textron Systems Overview The last remaining recommendation of the 9-11 Commission is the creation of a nationwide, interoperable public safety network. Recent legislation charges the National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA) with a lead role in its creation. NTIA must create a public-private corporate board, the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet), that will ultimately establish the public safety broadband network (PSBN). In an effort to contribute to the development of the PSBN, Textron Systems held a War Game to explore the challenges and opportunities inherent in setting up the FirstNet board, and ultimately deploying PSBN nationwide. Textron conducted the first installation of the War Game on May 23-24 in Washington, D.C. with representatives from government, industry and the user community. So that’s coats, hats, gloves — for any sizes really, infant to adult,” said Katie Jacobson, vice president and senior anthropology major with an emphasis in archaeology. The collection bins are located in the anthropology main office, King 104. This is the first fundraiser done by the anthropological association, which has been an official student organization for three years. “We thought, OK, it’s time for us to do some kind of fundraiser to help people out,” Jacobson said. -
