    newsroom Motorsports Jul 22, 2018 Nick Yelloly scores second win of the season at the Hockenheimring Nick Yelloly scored a commanding lights-to-flag victory at round five of the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup on the Hockenheimring Baden- Württemberg. This triumph marks the Englishman’s second win of the season. “I got away well at the start and that laid the foundation for my win. To drive unchallenged at the front of the field might look easy, but you have to be totally concentrated over the entire distance. And I succeeded in that,” said Yelloly (Fach Auto Tech). At the wheel of his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, Mattia Drudi (Dinamic Motorsport) from Italy took the flag in second place, with Michael Ammermüller (BWT Lechner Racing) from Germany crossing the finish line in third. Under cloudy skies and in 24-degree Celsius temperatures, Yelloly pulled clear of the field immediately after the start. After 14 laps, the driver from Sollihull in the UK swept over the finish line in first, 3.6-seconds ahead of Drudi. Behind Yelloly, gripping battles for positions developed on the storied German racetrack. Taking up the race from the third grid spot, Drudi immediately put Mikkel Pedersen (MRS GT-Racing) in front of him under pressure. In lap three, the 20-year-old overtook the Dane, which the Italian from Misano Adriatico defended until the flag. “In the final laps my tyres deteriorated more and more, so I didn’t want to take too much of a risk. This is my second podium finish after Silverstone and that’s of course fantastic,” said Drudi.

    RECCE REPORT By Fred Bent, Clerk of the Course Rally Round's 2018 Paris-Amsterdam Rally will be a celebration of two great motoring anniversaries - of the first long-distance journey by motor car in 1888, and of the first international motor race just 10 years later. In planning the six-day rally route through France, Luxembourg, Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands, I have sought to combine entertaining and traffic-free roads, challenging regularity sections, several iconic motorsport venues and many other points of scenic, historic and cultural interest, not to mention lovely refreshment and lunch stops and the very best hotels. It's amazing how much you can pack into each day on the road, even allowing for a relaxed schedule (appropriate for cars of all ages) and plenty of time for socialising. Having published a provisional itinerary in the event brochure, we embarked on a detailed route recce in August 2017, checking every aspect of the event, confirming venue details and writing a comprehensive roadbook. I have made a few minor improvements to the route outlined in the brochure, allowing more time to explore interesting places and steering clear of potential traffic hotspots wherever possible. I'm pleased with the result, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. And for the third consecutive time, Audi can secure the prestigious title – a feat no automobile manufacturer has ever achieved in the most popular international touring car racing series. In 2007, Mattias Ekström kept Mercedes driver Bruno Spengler at bay at Hockenheim. Last year, Timo Scheider kept his cool and did not give Paul Di Resta a chance. Both times, Audi had come to Hockenheim with an advantage of just two points. In 2009, the cushion is clearly bigger: Timo Scheider has 56 points to his credit; his immediate rival Gary Paffett has seven points less. Ten points will still be awarded at Hockenheim. Consequently, the starting base before the finale is relatively simple: Paffett has to win or finish second in order to thwart Audi’s plans. If the Briton should win, Scheider needs to finish fifth to successfully defend the title. If Paffett finishes as the runner-up, the Audi driver has to at least take seventh place. In any other constellation, the new and old champion will be Timo Scheider. The statistics speak in favor of the 30-year-old as well: Since Audi’s return to the DTM with a “factory” commitment, no driver has managed beating the leader of the standings in the title decision at Hockenheim, and the most recent Hockenheim track record of the Audi brand is impressive too: Four times in a row, the car starting from the pole position at the German Grand Prix circuit in the 1/8 most recent races was an Audi A4.
