1 Dear Friends

The Temiskaming Foundation is part of a network of 191 Community Foundations across Canada. These Community Foundations are very effective at allowing philanthropy to happen in thousands of Communities across the Country. The Temiskaming Foundation has, for 24 years, been contributing to the growth of the Temiskaming region in the areas of Health, Arts and Culture, Youth projects, Recreation, Museums, Food Banks, Libraries and Scholarships. These funds come from the investment income from the 7.2 million dollars which is currently endowed with the foundation. In 2018 the contribution was almost $400,000.

That $7.1 million keeps growing with 4 new funds in 2018. The Jim and Sandi Hamilton Fund, the Gary Messenger Fund, the Roger Dubien Fund, and the Cynthia Koch Fund.

The Temiskaming Foundation is a vital part of many organizations in Temiskaming and it is also an excellent vehicle that everyone should consider when planning estates and wishing to leave a legacy in their community while reducing taxes.

At the Temiskaming Foundation we are always interested in discussing our organization with you. Whether as someone contributing and growing the Foundation or as a member of a community organization that needs the assistance of the Foundation.

2019 is the 25th anniversary of the Temiskaming Foundation and we are planning some events to raise awareness of the Temiskaming Foundation and in particular our Community Fund. The Community Fund is a general fund that any community group can apply to for grants. We would like to increase the size of this Community Fund so that the Communities in Temiskaming have more opportunity to obtain funding for valuable causes.

I would like to thank our Executive Director Claire Hendrikx for all her hard work and dedication. Without her we would not be where we are today. I would also like to thank all the dedicated members of the board who are a pleasure to work with and who continually guide the Temiskaming Foundation in the right direction.

I would encourage you to contact us, or me personally, to find out more about The Temiskaming Foundation and how it is a vital organization for the future of Temiskaming.

Sincerely,

Mark Wilson

President

30 Why do people set up funds the way they do? Here is the answer for one donor: Arnold Birnie

“Through the Peter & Hope Birnie fund, I am not only venerating the memory of my parents, but, I believe it is the most effective way I can contribute to the enrichment of the Temiskaming Community. By assisting a few of our best and brightest children in their quest to get a post-secondary education, I expect that they, in turn, will be better prepared and enabled to become part of our next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs. Not all, but some of these students will return home and pay forward my small investment with their acquired knowledge, creativity and enthusiasm. This is extremely valuable intellectual sweat equity and every drop of it has to be encouraged and harvested.

It is my hope that these wonderful children will become the leaders that are needed to restore, sustain, and help grow the economy of , as well as our Province and our Country.

For those of us, like myself and my brothers and sisters, who live away, we will never forget our roots and the values we learned here.
