SIGNIFICANCE of BOWING

A bow signifies reverence & honor shown to the names or event being mentioned. We are to do the following: 1) A bow of the head is made when the three Divine Persons (the Trinity) are named together and at the names of Jesus, of the Blessed Mary, and of the Saint in whose honor Mass is being celebrated. 2) A bow of the body (a profound bow) is made during the Creed with the words “and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.” —General Instruction to the Roman Missal, #275

CONFESSIONS Saturdays: 3 pm - 4:30 pm

An Act of Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. p. 6 Pray for the selection process for our new Youth Coordinator

The search committee is interviewing vari- ous applicants for our new Youth Coordina- tor. Pray that most suitable person may be found who will be willing to serve as our new Youth Coordinator.

ADULT FAITH FORMATION MINISTRY

In the spirit of the new life that Easter offers, the Adult Faith Formation ministry at St Maximilian is starting up two opportunities to grow in your faith. The first is a 25-week study on the letter from St Paul to the Romans. This will have two times availa- ble and you can choose your time preference - Sundays at 6:30 pm on Zoom or Fridays at 10 am in room 215 (masks required). The first class is only to receive materials and an overview. If you pre- fer the Sunday class, you will need to contact Molly Smith to make that arrangement. The cost of the materials is $42, but scholarships are available. The second option is especially good if you cannot add a meeting into your schedule. It is a weekly "discussion" on the Sunday readings using GroupMe. This app is similar to a closed message board. This will allow members to post their thoughts and discuss the previous week as well as pre- pare for the readings for the upcoming Sunday. For more information, contact or Vicki Hatfield or Molly Smith @ [email protected].

Elder abuse can happen to anyone and it can take many different forms. Most cases of abuse reported to Adult Protective Services involve “self-neglect.” Many of these people are vulnerable to abuse because they live alone or are dependent on someone else for their care. Texas requires by law the reporting of elder abuse or the suspi- cion of elder abuse. If you know of someone who cannot care for himself/herself, or who is being abused, neglect- ed or exploited, whether they live alone or with a spouse or caregiver, Texas law requires that you report the abuse. The number is 1-800-252-5400; your report will remain confidential.

Prayer for World Day of Prayer for Vocations p. 7 Holy Spirit, stir within us the passion to promote vocations to the consecrated life, societies of apostolic life, diocesan priesthood, and permanent diaconate. Inspire us daily to respond to Your call with boundless compassion, abundant generosity, and radical availability. Help us to remember our own baptismal call to rouse us to invite the next gen- eration to hear and respond to Your call. Inspire parents, families, and lay ecclesial ministers to begin a conversation with young Catholics to consider how they will live lives of holiness and sacred service. Nudge inquirers and motivate discerners to learn more about monastic life, ap- ostolic life, , cloistered contemplative life, and evangelical Francis- can life. Ignite our Church with the confident humility that there is an urgent need for religious sisters, brothers, deacons, and priests to live in solidarity with those who are poor, neglected, and marginalized. Disrupt our comfortable lives and complacent attitudes with new ideas to respond courageously and creatively with a daily 'YES!' Amen.

It the joy of simplicity, the joy experienced daily by those who care for what truly matters: faithful closeness to God and to our neighbor. How good it would be if the same atmosphere, simple and radiant, sober and hopeful, were to pervade our seminaries, religious houses and presbyteries! I pray that you will experience this same joy, dear brothers and sisters who have generously made God the dream of your lives, serving him in your brothers and sisters through a fidelity that is a powerful testimony in an age of ephemeral choices and emotions that bring no lasting joy. May , protector of vocations, accompany you with his fatherly heart!

--Pope Francis, World Day of Prayer for Vocations, 2021

A Prayer to St. Joseph for the Year of St. Joseph

Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary. To you God entrusted his only Son; in you Mary placed her trust; with you Christ became man. Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage, and defend us from every evil. Amen.

FEAST OF FAITH The Gospel Reading The climax of the Liturgy of the Word comes with the proclamation of the Gospel. Everything tells us that something important is happening. We stand. We sing special acclamations. Servers with candles and sometimes incense lead the deacon or priest to the ambo, where the reading is proclaimed from a special book. All of the readings are important, but the liturgy directs special attention to the Gospel for a reason. “[A] mong all the inspired writings, even among those of the New Testament, the Gospels have a special place, and rightly so, because they are our principal source for the life and teaching of the Incarnate Word, our Saviour” (Dei Verbum, the Dogmatic Constitution on Divine Revelation of the Second Vatican Council, 18). In the Gospels, the narrative of Christ’s saving life, death, and resurrection continues to be proclaimed in our midst. Our Sunday Lectionary is structured so as to allow us to hear as much of the Gospels as possible. The readings are arranged in a three-year cycle. In Year A, the Gospel readings are taken mainly from Mat- thew; in Year B, from Mark and John; and in Year C, from Luke. In this way, over the course of three years, we hear a substantial portion of all four Gospels. Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. p. 8 Make sure our parish, St. Maximilian Kolbe, is wriƩen on your pledge card, not any other parish name.

Did you know? The word vocation comes from a Latin word, which means "a call". The Office of Vocations journeys with men & women who are called to the priesthood & reli- gious life. With the support of DSF, the office offers resources, retreats, prayer experiences & guidance to all who are called to holiness. The Diocesan Services Fund (DSF) supports 60+ programs benefitting 1.7 million Catholics in our Arch- diocese. Visit archgh.org/dsf to learn more. 2021 Mandatory Amount: $ 138,000

Since 2016, our DSF mandatory amount has remained the same at $138,000. Just like every year, we can meet this amount. But let’s meet this pledged amount by the end of this June. So far, $52,931 has been paid. In the meantime, please make your pledge.
