SHOPPING SHARE VIDEO for “SUDDENLY GONE” HPs://Youtu.Be/GvczgvvhU February 28, 2018 For Immediate Release SHOPPING SHARE VIDEO FOR “SUDDENLY GONE” hps://youtu.be/GVcZGVVhCU THE OFFICIAL BODY OUT NOW ON FATCAT RECORDS; NORTH AMERICAN TOUR KICKS OFF TOMORROW NIGHT! “Wiry and urgent, ‘The Official Body’ offers vibrant, chaoEc catharsis at an ideal moment.” — Rolling Stone “…Shopping have opted for one of the most revoluEonary forces of all: fun.” — NPR Music “…their songs bristle at the rubbish aspects of modern life and sound like a proof of the Eme-worn maxim that dancing is an essenEal part of revoluEon.” — Bandcamp “The third record from the UK trio wrangles their elasEc, post-punk spirit into an urgency that feels bonded to the present. It makes for songs that are as mesmerizing as they are exhilaraEng.” — Pitchfork Shopping are pleased to present the video for “Suddenly Gone,” before kicking off their North American tour tomorrow night in Boston at Great Sco! The tour takes them all across the US and Canada, including stops at both SaVannah StopoVer and SXSW, in support of The Official Body, out last month on FatCat Records. A full list of dates is below. The “Suddenly Gone” video, directed by LA-based director and animator Lessa Millet, “talks about labour and resources,” says band member Rachel Aggs. “It’s about feeling used and undervalued in a relaEonship or, more generally, as a queer and/or a person of colour making music or art in the UK and how that can feel very draining.” She adds, “you can feel overlooked for years and then suddenly tokenized when your idenEty becomes buzz- worthy or fashionable. So much of the guitar music we love originates from roots and blues music made by and for people of colour and the same goes for dance and disco that has its roots so firmly in queer culture. We are asking people to reflect on what our cultural landscape would really look like if it weren’t for those pioneering but marginalized arEsts and in parEcular what our ciEes will eventually look like if queer spaces and independent gig venues conEnue to be forced to close.” In creaEng the video, Millet says, “I went off of the energy of the song and the feeling behind it - this feeling of ‘I see what you're doing, and I'm done being used.’ It's opEmisEc and angry at the same Eme. In looking for images I just thought about all the instances a small group of people profit from everyone else, which way the money river flows, where does it pool. I think the magic tricks and hand shadows were a good metaphor for all the distracEons that prevent us from seeing what is going on underneath.” “It also suggests a parallel between this kind of emoEonal, creaEve draining and the terrifying environmental consequences of reckless money-grabbing corporaEons,” Aggs conEnues, “undervaluing and exploiEng our natural resources and the impact of that on people living and working in more precarious parts of the world.” Watch Shopping’s “Suddenly Gone” Video — hps://youtu.be/GVcZGVVhCU Watch Shopping’s “Wild Child” Video — h5ps://youtu.be/GWVZFYTPrRw Watch Shopping’s “The Hype” Video – h5ps://youtu.be/JnAm6AphanY Shopping Tour Dates: Thu.

  • Interview: Patrick Stickles of Titus Andronicus,Album of the Week
Interview: Patrick Stickles of Titus Andronicus Patrick Stickles of Titus Andronicus (Photo: Jorge Chantre) Ever since their start in Glen Rock, NJ, in 2005, Titus Andronicus have been lauded for their energetic live performances. Frontman and guitarist Patrick Stickles sings intensely from the heart in unapologetic fashion. It’s musical honesty with a punk rock foundation that’s absolutely incredible. The band has their fifth studio album currently out, A Productive Cough, which was released Mar 2 through Merge Records. Stickles and pianist Alex Molini will be rolling through AS220 on Empire Street in Providence on March 9 to perform stripped down versions of Titus Andronicus’ songs with Rick Maguire from Boston indie rock act Pile kicking things off. I had a talk with Stickles recently about the influence of ‘90s hip hop on his lyrics, heart-on-the-sleeve ballads, hope and optimism for the state of DIY venues and not lamenting about the festival season. Rob Duguay (Motif): Your lyrics have a poetic tone while encompassing a lot of empathetic emotion. Whom do you consider your main influences when it comes to writing lyrics? Do you lean more towards musicians or do you lean more towards poets? Patrick Stickles: Some of the best musicians are also some of the best poets, I gotta say. My lyrical inspirations mostly come from the rap music world. Not even necessarily their subject matter, but their attention to detail and the high standard of excellence that the best ones seem to adhere to. It’s a very lyrically driven form, or it certainly was at one point but less so today.

December 5, 2019 For Immediate Release Shopping Announce New Album, All Or Nothing, Out February 7th On FatCat Records, And North American Tour Watch Video For Lead Single, “Initiative” (Photo Credit: Matt Draper) Shopping announce All Or Nothing, their new album out February 7th on FatCat Records, and present the video for lead single, “Initiative.” Following 2018’s The Official Body, the songs that make up All or Nothing are the band’s boldest yet; confident, elastic, streamlined grooves that crackle with energy and intention. The trio’s vision – deeply queer; political by default – place them in a radical lineage of dance, a continuum connecting disco and post-punk to Chicago house and EDM. Storming lead single “Initiative” was written in a Seattle basement. Like the album as a whole, the track thrums with purpose, marking a confident new phase for the band. Referencing governments who shirk responsibilities but place the blame on individuals, the song has a frustrated groove that’s propelling, motivated by necessity to keep going against the grain. The accompanying video, directed by Jack Barraclough, is brightly-stylized, and stars the band themselves. Watch Video For “Initiative” - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Owoq6vVkUs Though the band members now live countries away from each other - guitarist Rachel Aggs (Trash Kit, Sacred Paws) and drummer Andrew Milk (Current Affairs) in Glasgow and Billy Easter (Wet Dog) in Los Angeles - the trio returned to London for an intense, 10-day period. For All Or Nothing, they teamed up with US-based producer Davey Warsop to record, shifting their stripped-down ethos to one that took a leap into pop production.

  • Is an Experimental Icelandic Pop Group Whose
múm (pronounced [mum], “moom”)** is an experimental Icelandic pop group whose music is characterized by soft vocals, eccentric beats and colorful effects, and a variety of traditional and unconventional instruments múm have never walked the well trodden path. Since the the beginning of múm, they have always gone their own way, the way their creativeness and their music has been excessively difficult to pin down and anticipate. Originally a duo, the band has expanded and contracted like a beating mammalian heart in the 12 years of being and has counted 15 - 20 people along the way. The band was formed in 1997 by original members Gunnar Örn Tynes and Örvar Þóreyjarson Smárason. Their first release was a split 10" with the girl-band Spúnk and saw light in the summer of '98. They were joined a year later by twin sisters Gyða and Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir and released two albums as quartet. Following a number of collaborative projects, the group’s celebrated debut album Yesterday Was Dramatic, Today Is OK (reissued by Morr Music in October 2005) gained a wealth of glowing press and widespread praise. A remix project, Please Smile My Noise Bleed, was also released on the Morr Music label in November 2001. In 2002, after the FatCat Records release of Finally We Are No One and the extensive first world tour, Gyða left the band to return to her studies in Reykjavík. Shortly after, third sister Ásthildur Valtýsdóttir joined for singing duties temporarily and Serena Tideman replaced Gyda on cello, for a single European tour. The band's third album, Summer Make Good, a darker and foggier nautically-themed work, was released in May 2004, flanked by two singles, “Nightly Cares” and “Dusk Log”.
