Voting figures used are final results as supplied by the Australian Erectoral Commission. The paper provides summary tables for both the Senate and the House of Representatives together with details for each individual House of Repres.entatives electoral division. The region and party status classifications used in the paper are the same as those used by the Australian Electoral Commission. The party status is determined by the two party preferred vote at the 1987 elections adjusted for the effects of redistributions in Victoria and Western Australia. Electoral divisions are classified according to the swing required to unseat the sitting member: 'Safe' requires a swing of over 10 per cent: 'Fairly Safe' requires a swing of 6 per cent to 10 per cent. 'Marginal' requires a swing of less than 6 per cent. The names of candidates appear in the same order as on the ballot papers. The party affiliation of each candidate is indicated by an abbreviation. A small number of candidates had no party affiliation listed on the ballot papers. Votes obtained by each party or candidate are expressed as a percentage of the formal vote. The numbers of formal and informal votes are expressed as a percentage of total votes. Total votes are expressed as a percentage of the number of electors enrolled. The "swing" figures compare the percentage of votes obtained by candidates at the 1990 elections with the votes obtained by candidates standing for the same party at the 1987 elections. Where a candidate stood for a party at the 1987 election and no candidate stood for that party in 1990. the 1990 results show a blank candidate (...) and a negative swing. Symbols nil or rounded to zero * Sitting member + Candidate representing the party that won the division at the 1987 elections but where the sitting member did not stand at the 1990 elections. Party or independent candidate at the 1987 elections but did not stand for the 1990 election. 2 Federal Elections 1990 , Party Abbreviations AC P Australian Conservative Party AFI Australians Against Further Immigration AFM Australian Family- Movement AGP Australian Green Movement ALP Australian Labor Party AP Australia Party CCG Central Coast Green Party CEC Citizens' Electoral Councils CG Cooper Greens CLP Country Liberal Party CNA Combined New Australia Party COM Communist Party of Australia CTA Call to Australia OEM Australian Democrats DLP Democratic Labor Party DSP Democratic Socialist Party EFF Independent EEF EI Environment Independents GA Green Alliance GLO Greens in Lowe GRN The Greens GRY Grey Power IG Illawarra Grens IND Independent LNP Liberal/National Party LP Liberal Party NDP Nuclear Disarmament Party NP National Party PPA Pensioner Party of Australia RCL Rex Connor Labor Party SG Sydney Greens SPA Socialist Party of Australia SSG South Sydney Greens SWP Socialist Workers Party UAP Unite Australia Party UTG United Tasmanian Group WAG Western Australian Green Party Gerard Newman Andrew Kopras Statistics Group Parliamentary Research Service Federal Elections 1990 3 TABLE 1 HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES: NATIONAL SUMMARY Enrolled 10 728 131 First Preference Votes Change from 1987 Election Candidates Seats Won Number Percent Seats(a) % Votes Australian Labor Party . 148 78 3 904 138 39.44 -8(-6) -6.39 Li beral Party (b) 133 55 3 468 570 35.04' . +12(+9) +0.49 National Party 47 14 833 557 8.42 -5(-4) -3.10 Australian Democ·rats 144 1114 216 11.26 +5.23 Call to Australia 52 96497 0.97 +0.97 Western Australia Green Party 14 67164 0.68 +0.68 The Greens 6 24337 0.25 ·. +0.25 Grey Power 21 20984 0.21 · . +0.21 Democratic Socialist Party 29 20668 0.21 +0.21 Independent EFF 5 9375 0.09 +0.09 Australian Gruen Party 8 8981 0.09 +0.09 Rex Connor Labor Party 2 8277 0.08 +0.08 lIIawarra Greens 2 7549 0.08 +0.08 Sydney Greens 1 6745 0.07 +0.07 Combined New Australia Party 6 6376 0.06 +0.06 United Tasmanian Group 2 ·. 6367 0.06 ·. +0.06 South Sydney Greens 1 5606 0.06 +0.06 Nuclear Disarmament Party 4 ·. 5 578 0.06 -0.05 Environment Independents 1 ·. 4866 0.05 +0.05 Central Coast Green Party 2 3625 0.04 +0.04 Citizen's Electoral Council 1 3524 0.04 ·. +0.04 Greens in Lowe 1 ·. 3193 0.Q3 +0.04 Democratic Labor Party 1 ·. 2564 0.03 -0.01 Socialist Party of Australia 3 2255 0.02 ·. +0.02 Cowper Greens 1 1906 0.02 +0.02 Green Alliance 1 · . 1 878 0.02 ·. +0.02 Australian Conservative Party 2 ·. 1734 0.02 +0.02 Pensioner Party of Australia 2 1170 0.01 -o.Q3 Australian Against Further Immigration 1 835 0.01 ·. +0.01 Others 141 1 257 139 2.60 +1(+1) +0.73 Formal 9899 674 96.81 +1.75 Informal 326126 3.19 -1.75 Total 782 148 10225800 95.32 +1.48 (al Figures in brackets represent change in seats held before election. includes the effects of by-elections and redistributions in Victoria and Western Australia.
