• Goal: • Activity: Enhancing the predatory fish population in Lake Enäjärvi • Activity: Involving local residents in water protection • Digging for channels for predatory fish fry was completed in summer 2018 by VESY ry • Pike fry survey was completed before and after (spring 2018 and 2019) the digging: more pike fry were found in 2019 • Report will be finished by the end of 2019 Ankerias

• Activity: Protecting eel migration in River Karjaanjoki • 12 eel were caught in spring 2018. They were marked, measured and released to the Baltic Sea. • Report will be finished by the end of 2019 Participatory methods in collecting data

Fishing survey (kalastustiedustelu) • Activity: Involving local residents in water protection • Activity: Involving local residents in fisheries management and monitoring • Activity: Creating a web based service for collecting fishing data • For the 1st time ever a fish survey was done covering the whole of Lake Hiidenvesi. We got a total of 95 responses, both on paper and online. • An online fishing survey form was developed in the project and tested. The tool could later be used in other lakes in fishing surveys. • Receiving contacts for people who have paid for a fishing permit turned out to be very challengin´g. • Report will be finished by the end of 2019 • The future maintenance of the online tool has to be decided upon. Kirjanpitokalastus • Activity: Involving local residents in water protection • Activity: Involving local residents in fisheries management and monitoring • Activity: Creating a web based service for collecting fishing data • We developed an online fishing accounting application for individual fishermen. The tool will serve both the fishermen themselves and the researchers and planners. • Fishing accounting was initiated in Hiidenvesi now for the 1st time. 9 fishermen are now either using paper form or the online form in recording their fishing. • The application is in use also in Lake Vesijärvi. • To start using the application is easy and it is possible to start using it anywhere. However, the maintenance, fixing possible bugs, and future development will have to be solved first. • Report will be finished by the end of 2019

Exploratory fishing

• 1. Exploratory fishing with standard Nordic nets and with fish traps will be compared. • The exploratory fishing with fish traps was carried out at Mustionselkä in August 2019 by the project, and LUKE carried out fishing with the nets around the same days. • 3 x 8 fish traps were used (3 per net) • 2. At Lake Enäjärvi exploratory fishing was completed with Nordic nets. This information will help in planning lake restoration. • Reports will be finished by the end of 2019 Improving the utilization of local fish

• Improving the utilization of local fish • Gathering and sharing information of experiences related to management of fisheries • 3 fish food courses/events have been organized already, and 1 more to come in October 19th. Feedback has been positive. • The project was also organizing 2 traditional Hiidenvesi-ilta events with a fish theme in 2018 and 2019. • International cooperation and networking for finding and sharing best practices and knowhow • Synthesis 2: Best practices in the management of fish stocks, simple instructions how to fish and use less valuable fish • Establishing a joint web page • Story Map: Management fishing in lake restoration. • Producing text to the Vesistökunnostusverkosto and HOLA LAKE – websites • Results seminar in Feb 2020 in Lohja.
