Most of the rove bee- tles (Staphylinidae) were collected using sifters, from river debris and decaying plant matter. Many species were sim- ply caught by hand. Several rare species were caught using window traps installed on tree trunks. Most of the mate- rial was collected by Valentin Soo (1905-1984) and Uno Roosileht.
