    Integral-Universal Education: Analysis of M. Natsir’s Thoughts on Islamic Education Kasmuri Selamat Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sultan Syarif Kasim, Riau, Indonesia [email protected] Abstract. This paper aimed at exploring M. Natsir's thoughts on Islamic education. Using a qualitative study with a historical approach, the writer found that M. Natsir was a rare figure. He was not only a scholar but also a thinker, a politician, and an educator. As an educator, he not only became a teacher, but also gave birth to various educational concepts known as an integral and universal education concept. He was an architect and an anti-dichotomous thinker of Islamic education. According to Natsir, Islam did not separate spiritual matters from worldly affairs. The spiritual aspect would be the basis of worldliness. The foregoing indicated that religious ethics emphasized by Islamic teachings must be the foundation of life. The conceptual basis of "educational modernism" with tauhid as its foundation demonstrated that he was a figure who really cared about Islamic education. Keywords: Integral-Universal Education, M. Natsir, Thought Introduction Minangkabau, West Sumatra, is one of the areas that cannot be underestimated because there are many great figures on the national and international scales in various fields of expertise from this area, such as scholars, politicians, and other strategic fields. Among these figures are Tuanku Imam Bonjol, Haji Agus Salim, Sutan Sjahrir, Hamka, M. Natsir, and others. Everybody knows these names and their works. These figures lived in the early 20th century when three ideological groups competed with one another to dominate in the struggle for independence.

    Another Look at the Jakarta Charter Controversy of 1945 R. E. Elson* On the morning of August 18, 1945, three days after the Japanese surrender and just a day after Indonesia's proclamation of independence, Mohammad Hatta, soon to be elected as vice-president of the infant republic, prevailed upon delegates at the first meeting of the Panitia Persiapan Kemerdekaan Indonesia (PPKI, Committee for the Preparation of Indonesian Independence) to adjust key aspects of the republic's draft constitution, notably its preamble. The changes enjoined by Hatta on members of the Preparation Committee, charged with finalizing and promulgating the constitution, were made quickly and with little dispute. Their effect, however, particularly the removal of seven words stipulating that all Muslims should observe Islamic law, was significantly to reduce the proposed formal role of Islam in Indonesian political and social life. Episodically thereafter, the actions of the PPKI that day came to be castigated by some Muslims as catastrophic for Islam in Indonesia—indeed, as an act of treason* 1—and efforts were put in train to restore the seven words to the constitution.2 In retracing the history of the drafting of the Jakarta Charter in June 1945, * This research was supported under the Australian Research Council's Discovery Projects funding scheme.     BAB II KONDISI BANGSA INDONESIA SEBELUM SIDANG BPUPKI A.Masa Sebelum Sidang BPUPKI Setiap negara memiliki konstitusi. Demikian halnya bangsa Indonesia sebagai suatu negara juga memiliki konstitusi, yaitu Undang-Undang Dasar 1945. Pembentukan atau perumusan Undang-Undang Dasar 1945 ini menjadi konstitusi Indonesia melalui beberapa tahap.Pembuatan konstitusi ini diawali dengan proses perumusan Pancasila. Pancasila adalah dasar Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia. Pancasila berasal dari kata panca yang berarti lima, dan sila yang berarti dasar. Jadi, Pancasila memiliki arti lima dasar. Maksudnya, Pancasila memuat lima hal pokok yang diwujudkan dalam kelima silanya.1 Menjelang kemerdekaan Indonesia, tokoh-tokoh pendiri bangsa merumuskan dasar negara untuk pijakan dalam penyelenggaraan negara. Awal kelahiran Pancasila dimulai pada saat penjajahan Jepang di Indonesia hampir berakhir.Jepang yang mulai terdesak saat Perang Pasifik menjanjikan kemerdekaan kepada bangsa Indonesia. Untuk memenuhi janji tersebut, maka dibentuklah Badan Penyelidik Usaha-Usaha Persiapan Kemerdekaan Indonesia (BPUPKI) pada tanggal 28 Mei 1945. Badan ini beranggotakan 63 orang dan diketuai oleh dr. Radjiman Widyodiningrat. BPUPKI bertugas untuk mempersiapkan dan merumuskan hal-hal mengenai tata pemerintahan Indonesia jika merdeka. Untuk memperlancar tugasnya, BPUPKI membentuk beberapa panitia kerja, di antaranya sebagai berikut: 1. Panitia sembilan yang diketuai oleh Ir. Sukarno. Tugas panitia ini adalah merumuskan naskah rancangan pembukaan undang-undang dasar. 2. Panitia perancang UUD, juga diketuai oleh Ir. Sukarno. Di dalam panitia tersebut dibentuk lagi panitia kecil yang diketuai Prof. Dr. Supomo. 3. Panitia Ekonomi dan Keuangan yang diketuai Drs. Moh. Hatta. 4. Panitia Pembela Tanah Air, yang diketuai Abikusno Tjokrosuyoso. BPUPKI mengadakan sidang sebanyak dua kali. Sidang pertama BPUPKI terselenggara pada tanggal 29 Mei-1 Juni 1945.

Life of Mohammad Natsir Mohammad Natsir was born in Alahan Panjang, Gumanti valley, Solok district , West Sumatra province on July 17th, 1908 from his parents Mohammad Idris Sutan Saripado and Khadijah.1 In his childhood, Natsir and his family lived in the Sutan Rajo Ameh’s house, a famous coffee merchant there. By the owner, the house was divided into two parts; Natsir and his family live on the left and Mohammad Idris Sutan Saripado stay to the right.2 Natsir has three siblings, namely Yukinan, Rubiah, and Yohanusun. His last father position was as a government employee in Alahan Panjang, while his grandfather was an Islamic scholar. He later became the custom authorities for his people who came from Maninjau, Tanjung Raya, Agam with title Datuk Sinaro nan panjang.3 Natsir started an education at the Elementary School Maninjau for two Years until the second grade, and then moved to Hollandsch-Inlandsche School (HIS) Adabiyah in Padang .4 After a few months, he moved to Solok and cared in the house merchant namely Haji Musa. Beside studied in HIS in day, he also studien in Madrasah diniyah at the evening.5 Three years later, he moved back to HIS in Padang with his sister. In 1923, he continued his studies at Meer Uitgebreid Lager Onderwijs (MULO) then joined the youth associations as Pandu Nationale Islamietische Pavinderij and Jong Islamieten Bond. Latar Belakang Kehidupan Haji Agus Salim Haji Agus Salim lahir dengan nama kecil Mashudul Haq (berarti pembela kebenaran) adalah putra dari Sutan Mohammad Salim dan Siti Zainab. Sang ayah terkesan oleh nama Masyudul Haq, tokoh utama buku yang sedang dia baca. Ketika Mohammad Salim sedang di surau beberapa hari kemudian, datang kabar gembira. Istrinya, Siti Zainab, baru saja melahirkan seorang bayi laki-laki. Maka dinamakanlah bayi itu Masyudul Haq46. Sudah dimaklumi bahwa terdapat dua faksi yang keduanya saling berkompetisi dalam menentukan dasar Negara Republik ini, yaitu kalangan Muslim, yang berpendirian bahwa dasar Negara dari bangsa Indonesia harus Islam, dan golongan nasionalis “sekuler” yang memandang bahwa Negara Republik Indonesia harus berdasarkan atas kebangsaan, bukan Islam. Memang iakui bahwa mayoritas tim perumus yang tergabung dalam keanggotaan Panitia Persiapan Kemerdekaan Indonesia (PPKI) adalah Muslim, namun pada kenyataannya mereka tidak seia sekata dalam memoosisikan Islam sebagai dasar negara, dan akhirnya dicapai kesepakatan bahwa dasar Negara Republik Indonesia adalah Pancasila. Pencapaian konsesus tersebut merupakan kredit point tersendiri, khususnya mengenai jiwa besar para elit atau tokoh Muslim dengan menerima Pancasila sebagai dasar Negara Republik Indonesia. Bagi mereka, kepentingan bangsa dan Negara berada di atas segala-galanya. Tendensi golongan, apalagi kepentingan pribadi, untuk sejenak dilupakan, demi kepentingan umat dan bangsa. Last of the giants among Indonesia's nationalist and revolutionary political leaders, he undoubtedly had more influence on the course of Islamic thought and politics in postwar Indonesia than any of his contemporaries. By nature extraordinarily modest and unpretentious, he had a well deserved reputation for personal integrity and political probity. He always lived sim­ ply with respect to house and attire, even in 1950 as prime minister. (When I first met him in 1948 and he was the Republic's minister of information, I found a man in what was surely the most mended shirt of any official in Yogyakarta; it was his only shirt, and the staff of his office a few weeks later pooled their resources to get him a new one in order, they told me, that their boss would look like "a real minister.") Bom of Minangkabau parents in the West Sumatran town of Alahan Panjang ( some 30 miles south of Solok) on July 17,1908, Natsir grew up in what he remembered to be a very religious area. It was also agriculturally prosperous—in contrast, he recalled, to the impov­ erished nearby Silungkung district which was a center of the Communist uprising of 1927. His father was a clerk in a government office in Alahan Panjang who had graduated from an Indonesian language primary school and did not know Dutch (HIS schools had not yet been established in the area).

Before that, many developing countries have been used micro analytical software, for example aaSIDRA. It seems it is more difficult to use micro simulation software in developing countries due to there are more complex problems compared to developed countries, as the models were developed based on the travel behavior of the country. A study to model and analyze a signalized intersection has been undertaken in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. It used CUBE Dynasim, a relatively new micro simulation software, and aaSIDRA. Throught the application of the two models, it has been found that CUBE Dynasim tends to generate lower approach flows compared to the real data while aaSIDRA generates higher lane capacity than the demand.
