    Datum: 26. Juni 2014 Lehrabschlussprüfungen 2014 Kaufmännische Berufe, Berufe des Detailhandels sowie der BMSII/Nachholbildung. In diesem Jahr sind in der Kaufmännischen Berufsfachschule 218 Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten an die Prüfungen angetreten. Bestanden haben 95 %. Insgesamt 20 Kandidatinnen und Kandidaten, dies entspricht 9.2 %, haben im Rang abgeschlossen. Im Rang bedeutet eine Schlussnote schulischer und betrieblicher Teil von mindestens 5.3 (in der Berufsmatura: nur schulischer Teil). In der Berufsfachschule für Detailhandel haben 118 die Prüfungen abgelegt, bestanden haben 93.2 %. Über einen Rangabschluss konnten sich 12 Lernende, dies sind 10.2 %, freuen. In der BMSII haben 35 Erwachsene absolviert, bestanden haben 91.4 % und ein Kandidat schloss im Rang ab. Im Rahmen der Abschlussfeiern der Kaufmännischen Berufsfachschule vom 19. Juni 2014, der BMSII vom 19. Juni 2014 sowie der Berufs- fachschule für Detailhandel vom 20. Juni 2014 wurden auch die Rangierten geehrt. Wir gratulieren allen Lehrabgängerinnen und Lehrabgän- gern zu ihrem Erfolg und den Rangierten zu den ausgezeichneten Leistungen.     Thirst for Knowledge Meets Collecting Mania Since their foundation in the 19th century, the task of ethnographic museums has changed fundamentally. Today, the starting point is the principle of equality in which a wide range of interdependences, differing perspectives, and reflection modes are addressed. The present exhibition sheds light on some of the problematic areas of museum work which result from the institution’s history, the conditions of collecting, and the forms of display. Thirst for knowledge – Holding large collections from all regions of the world originally served the purpose of cultural demarcation and hierarchization. Over and again, annual reports from the early years of the Museum der Kulturen Basel (MKB) euphorically state that a new region has now been included on the museum’s world map, or that an existing typology has been extended by the acquisition of a certain object. At first, the emphasis was on sheer quantity, but, later, the focus shifted more to qualitative aspects such authenticity, precise provenance, contexts, and scientific enquiry. Collecting mania – Since every object was potentially evidence of the evolution of mankind, just about everything was collected in those early days. For one thing, the museum wished to “own a collection of respectable size”, for the other, the motto was “collect as long ‘as we still have daylight’ because the custodians of our collections in the future will probably not have the opportunity to purchase such authentic objects at such reasonable prices”, as Leopold Rütymeier, one of the senior staff members, put it in 1902. This policy soon led to a shortage of storage space.

Auch wer nach einem Spitalaufenthalt noch etwas Zeit, Erholung und Ruhe benötigt, liegt damit im Kurhaus direkt am Brienzersee genau richtig. Diabetes (Zuckerkrankheit) zerstörte im Laufe der Jahre die Nierengefässe von Andreas W.*, 48. Überschüssiges Wasser sammelte sich in seinem Körper an, nur noch kurze Strecken konnte er gehen – dann war plötzlich Schluss: Andreas W. musste schleunigst ins Spital an die Hämodialyse (Blutwäsche). Dort wurde das nach- geholt, was seine Nieren nicht mehr konnten: das Blut reinigen und überflüssiges Wasser ausscheiden. Drei- mal in der Woche ist das jetzt nötig, wird er für vier Stunden im Spital ans Dialysegerät angeschlossen. «Ich habe mein Leben auf die Dialyse ausgerichtet. Das hält mich aber nicht davon ab, in die Ferien zu fahren», sagt er.
