It evaluates elements of crimmigration in the legal framework, institutions and policies. The analysis of the framing of the topic at the normative level of institutions is accompanied by an examination of the implementation of specific procedures in practice. An exploration of policies and expert opinions is combined with an analysis of the effects that crimmigration has on migrants. Corroborated with the migrants’ experience with crimmigration measures, the article concludes that migration poli- cy in Slovenia is becoming stricter and progressively headed in the direction of in- creased criminalization of migration. KEY WORDS: crimmigration, Slovenia, migration, asylum IZVLEČEK Krimigracije v Sloveniji Avtorici v članku obravnavata »krimigracijo« (tj. kriminalizacijo migracij) v Sloveniji. Raziskujeta elemente kriminalizacije migracij v pravnem okviru, institucijah in poli- tikah. • Architecture of the 2Oth Century
Architecture of the 2oth Century The present book is a somewhat different overview of 2oth cen tury architecture in Slovenia. The selection of presented buildings is austere since it was dictated by the purpose of the book and its scope. The selected works are not only the outstanding buildings that came into existence in Slovenia in the last century. The authors of the book, architects and art historians, have selected typical creations of the past, characteristic evidence of progress in land development, theo retical thinking and architecture in our surroundings. The purpose of this selection is to encourage public debate and conservation evalua tion, and to facilitate better and more professional protection of all the outstanding historical buildings of the 2oth century, not only cul tural monuments and the creations of famous authors, the mainstays of the development of fine arts. The artistic value was one of the prin ciples of selection, since individual buildings and entities are to be considered as to their function, social value and historical relevance. We attempted to include as many architects as possible and all re gions of Slovenia. The chronological context of the book is defined as the period af ter the First World War, since the architecture created before 1920 has already been presented in another publication within The Euro pean Heritage Days Series. The final chronologicallimit of the selec tion was dose to the year 2000, although it is usually preferred to conclude the period somewhat earlier and evaluate the artefacts from a more distant point in time. The chronological definition of the be: ginning was further conditioned by a new creative enthusiasm after the First World War and the establishment of the first university in Slovenia in Ljubljana with a department of architecture.

  • The Ethnographic Research of the Digital Divide
DIGITAL DIVIDE IN ISTRIA A dissertation presented to the faculty of the College of Communication of Ohio University In partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree Doctor of Philosophy Igor Matic August 2006 The dissertation entitled DIGITAL DIVIDE IN ISTRIA by IGOR MATIC has been approved for the School of Telecommunications and the College of Communication by Karen E. Riggs Professor, School of Telecommunications Gregory J. Shepherd Dean, College of Communication ABSTRACT MATIC, IGOR, Ph. D., August 2006, Mass Communication DIGITAL DIVIDE IN ISTRIA (209 pp.) Director of Dissertation: Karen E. Riggs This dissertation covers the Digital Divide phenomena in the Istrian region. Istria is a Northern Adriatic peninsula that is administratively divided between three European countries: Croatia (which covers approximately 90% of the peninsula), Slovenia (app. 7%), and Italy (app. 3%). In this dissertation my goal was to articulate the most influential theoretical frameworks that are used to explain the Digital Divide today and I try to give an explanation of the issue through ethnographic procedures. The goals of this research include the examination of the current Digital Divide debate, extension of the theory toward the local understanding and perception of this global phenomenon. Additionally, I wanted to identify different interpretations of the Digital Divide in three countries within one region and compare the differences and similarities in new technology usage and perceptions. Also, I was interested to see how age - which is described as one of the major Digital Divide factors - influences the relationships between older and younger generations, specifically relationships between parents and children, instructors, students and co-workers.

Izr. prof. dr.

Year III, Vol. 4 Scientific polemics pp. 121-141 Momčilo Subotić1 Institute for Political Studies, Belgrade The Renewal of Serbistics Introduction It is known, from the researches conducted by many public opinion agencies, that most Serbs and other citizens of Serbia are inclined to- wards Serbia’s accession to the European Union. However, things have gone a step backwards today compared to the nineties; no one in the Serbian politics, or in the key national institutions, such as the SANU (Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts), Matica srpska and others, is even trying to conduct the analyses of Serbian defeats, to face the wrong ideas of Yugoslavism and Yugoslav politics and state. Without scientifically based and critical analyses of the status of Serbian nation and its state’s state constituencies, no further European integrations are possible. In other words, until the time when the Serbian political and intellectual leadership is finished with the Yugoslav era of its history, and realize and correct all the historical forgeries and counterfeits it was based on, the European integrations on an equal basis and by Eu- ropean standards will not happen. It is likely that the Serbian leader- ship, for the umpteenth time in the recent history, cannot overcome the excess history which, in the Balkan’s „barrel of gun-powder“ has always been too much. The Serbs have to answer the question of what happened to the Ser- bian national identity in the Yugoslav state to themselves first; do the European standards for entering „the family“ of the European nations, based on the linguistic definition of a nation, also stand for the Serbian people, being multi-confessional such as some other European nations (Germans, Hungarians, Аlbanians etc.).

Architecture.Slovenia Masters and scene 15th April to 30th May 2008 Curators: Luka Skansi, Adolph Stiller Press tour: Monday 14th April, 10.30 Official opening: Monday 14th April, 18.30 Exhibition venue: WIENER STÄDTISCHE Versicherung AG VIENNA INSURANCE GROUP Exhibition Centre in the Ringturm A-1010 Vienna, Schottenring 30 Opening hours: Monday to Friday: 09:00 to 18:00, admission free (closed on public holidays) Enquiries to: Alexander Jedlicka T: +43 (0)50350-21029 F: +43 (0)50350-99 21029 e-mail: [email protected] Formerly part of the Yugoslavian Federation, Slovenia has undergone remarkable change: independence in 1991, accession to the EU in 2004, introduction of the single currency in 2007 and – the very latest – the EU Presidency in the first six months of 2008. Not least, this has resulted in the strengthening of international interest in Slovenia and its culture. The exhibition explores the architectural scene in Slovenia over a period of approximately one hundred years – a scene which is surprisingly broad, of which little has been known until now and which has developed against the backdrop of such well-known masters as Jože Plečnik, Max Fabiani and Edo Ravnikar. In the first half of the 20th century the hallmarks of the architecture of the region which makes up the modern-day Republic of Slovenia, which must be seen in the context of the forces within society and the art movement at that time, were its dynamics and complexity.
