Building Update

We are very pleased to report that there is positive progress on Ealing Field’s permanent site in Little Ealing Lane. The team from Stride Tregowan Architects have completed their design proposal following a 6 week-period of meetings with the trust and contractors (Bowman Kirkland) have been formally appointed. The project involves the refurbishment of an attractive listed building as well as the building of a high spec classroom block and sports hall. The design has met with approval from the school governing body and has been presented to local residents and to Ealing Fields parents. A public meeting showcasing the proposal will take place on Wednesday 28th March 2018 from 4pm – 8pm as part of the consultation process. It is hoped that the refurbished building will be a considerable asset to the community as well as to the school. Current estimations indicate that the project will be completed by the summer term of 2020. In the interim plans are moving forward for the relocation of an additional classroom block onto the current temporary site in readiness for the new year 7 intake. Many thanks to parents who added their support to the planning application for this. Dame Alice Hudson

Student Leadership Day

On Tuesday 16th January the Ealing Fields students joined together with counterparts from William Perkin and Twyford on a brilliant leadership day where the focus was on learning what it meant to be a student leader at

Twyford Trust schools.

The Ealing Fields students who represented the school – Hriday Bedi 8 Byron, Ahmed Ali 8 Chambers, Finn Warren 7 Chambers, Robin Kutlu 7 Perceval, Arti Bachtiarov 8 Yeats, Meryam Chemami-Pons 7 Byron, Sara Mirkovic 8 Byron, Aalyiah Harman Charles 7 Chambers, Mimi Green 8 Chambers, Amelie Cannif 7 Perceval, Hannah Ahmed 8 Perceval, Summer Oliver-Ali 7 Yeats, Edie Seabrooke 8 Yeats – presented brilliantly on the unique identity of Ealing Fields leaders; risk-takers; experimenters and brave & bold thinkers who were prepared to take on challenges for the good of their communities. We ended the day by designing some principles of leadership which will help Ealing Fields lead the way in developing a culture of leadership for all students, not just for ‘student leaders’. I look forward to working much more on this theme of leadership with Ealing Fields when I formally begin as Associate Headteacher in June. Mr Bedford

EALING FIELDS SPORT

Ealing Trailfinders Rugby Club

Rugby has been a real success this year with both boys and girls playing in challenging weather conditions.

The Ealing Trailfinders rugby coaches have

been so impressed they invited our students to a training evening at their home ground, which highlighted some promising future rugby players!

The year 8 team narrowly lost out to Elthorne Park High School and Cardinal Wiseman High School after Savvanidid, Best and Hamilton all scored tries. The year 7’s played their first match and it was an epic contest with Elthorne Park. Bremang and Clarke starred in a 55-40 loss. Lots of potential for the future on

display!

A number of students attended the PTSA rugby day and entertained the crowds with some exciting rugby, before watching

Ireland’s grand slam confirmation in the school hall. ‘The Freshers’ and ‘The Majestic Penguins’ both ending with the highest points tally!

Hip Hop Dance

A group of keen dancers took part in a hip hop dance course, which was delivered by a dance teacher from Society Dance Group.

They learned new hip hop moves as well as learning a choreographed dance to Bruno Mars’ Finesse. This dance routine was then performed to create a music video!

Netball Season

As the netball season draws to a close we can reflect on some fantastic performances from

our year 7 and 8 teams as well as our B and C teams.

League results are still to be confirmed but out year 7 girls came 3rd in the borough in their

tournament and our year 8 girls came 5th. This is a fantastic result considering there were 12 teams playing in each tournament.

To add to this, the year 7 B team came 3rd in the trust tournament which is a really great result!

Young Leadership Course

Here, the students prepare for a young leadership day where they will lead a circuit style sports day for year 3 and 4

pupils from local primary schools.

They have one more training session before the big day this summer!!

Football Ealing Fields year 7’s have had to use a large squad this term with a number of players not available for selection. The team put in their best performance of the season against a very strong Drayton Manor team and were unlucky to come away with a 1-0 defeat. The Drayton goalkeeper managed to deny excellent efforts from Laylany, Wright and Clarke to clinch the win. The weather may have denied the Year 8 team a chance to win their league, but they proved once again what a strong outfit they are with a resounding 6-0 win over Villiers with goals from Jankovic (2), Ahmed, Sapra and a debut goal from Savvanidis. (left) Allen whips in a cross for Mills and Journet to attack. A superb performance by the year 8 ‘B’ team footballers secured 1st place in the Twyford

Trust ‘B’ Team Tournament! (left) Ghaderi lifts the trophy as he leads his team to glory. In the corresponding event for year 7 our team were unlucky to finish runners up and a number of players have stepped up to the first team since and performed admirably.

Ealing Fields Ski Trip February 2018

In February half term, 10 students from Ealing Fields embarked on a journey, joining William Perkin on their annual Ski Trip. After a short 27 hour journey, the over tired but very patient students arrived in their accommodation for the week in snowy Andorra. After a good night’s rest, we took to the slopes as absolute beginners spending more time on the floor than on our skis! The following days, under expert instruction, the students were able to ski not only on the slopes but also over jumps as well. By the final day, the once beginners, were now skiing 9km down blue runs confidently and picking up some good speed with excellent control. Evenings involved a range of activities including ice skating, swimming, bowling and shopping where students demonstrated immaculate behaviour and seemed to really enjoy the activities after a busy day skiing. We are already looking forward to next year’s trip which is already oversubscribed!

ART Art Pieces

This term art elective students enjoyed making mythical beast sculptures out of clay. They worked from literary resources as well as their own imagination. During the lessons students imagined the stories their characters would be in, their character traits, size and role.

Mathematics

On Wednesday 14th March we entered a team of 4 year 8 girls to the London UKMT Team Maths Challenge. This is a year 8/9 event and was held in West London Free School. In the weeks leading up to the event the team showed great commitment, staying behind for over an hour after school on Friday evenings to prepare. On the morning of the event we had a chance to get some extra practice in for a round called ‘Crossnumber,’ it is like a crossword, only with numerical answers instead. Additionally, one pair has the ‘Down’ clues and the other has the ‘Across’ clues. The catch is the pairs are not allowed to communicate!

On arrival we realised that a majority of the teams contained year 9 students – there’s a lot of extra maths you can learn in a year! Despite being at a disadvantage the girls tried really hard and completed every round with smiles on their faces. Many of the other teachers commented on how much they were enjoying their maths – great to hear! We achieved solid scores in three of the rounds and performed brilliantly in the ‘Crossnumber’ round; it was encouraging to see that our practice had paid off. Despite not having any year 9 students we were one of the top performing state schools at the event and came a very respectable 11th overall out of 25.

Ayah Radi 8 Chambers, Sheida Shaker 8 Chambers, Sarah Mirkovic 8 Byron, and Honya Hawezy 8 Perceval all did the school proud on the day and we’ll be back next year aiming for the win!

Love Literacy week Monday 5th - Friday 9th March 2018

Literacy

Ealing Fields were proud to hold their second Love Literacy Week in conjunction with the MFL department; Literacy Loves Languages.

On Monday, there was a challenging test of wit to find the person who is best at cognition (using our clarifying skills to define words, which have no English equivalent). The cognition test was won by Sara Mirkovic in 8B.

On Tuesday, the language teachers read their favourite books in French and Spanish. Miss Mitchell read ‘Harry Potter’ and Madame Sariman read ‘The Little Prince’, ‘Le Petit Prince’. It was amazing to hear familiar texts being read in another language!

On Thursday, it was the highly competitive Games Day. We tested our literacy skills with a variety of board games such as Scrabble, Story Cubes and Banana Grams and used our French and Spanish skills in crosswords and word searches.

On the last day of Love Literacy week there was a cake competition and sale. Best Looking The cakes had to be themed on a different culture – whether it was the type of cake created or the decorations on them. The judges had a hard time deliberating, but the winners were:

 Best Overall: Grace Connet 8 Chambers  Taste: Nisha Jain 8B and Mimi Green 8 Chambers  Appearance: Vera Narancic 7 Yeats

The EF Press are really excited to publish their second edition. It will be coming out in the final week, with our budding journalists’ insights into key events across the term and a fabulous new recipe to get you into the Easter Spirit! It can also be found online, on Copia, under the English page.

World Book Day

As part of our drive to maintain, promote and engage pupil interest in reading, the school joined in the world book day celebrations on Thursday 1st March 2018.

On this special day both staff and students came to school dressed as their favourite character from a book

Study Club Rewards trip

Just before half-term, a group of pupils attended a reward trip to the Dragon King Oriental all-you-can-eat buffet in Park Royal. Those attending had been drawn at random a group of pupils who regularly attend our Study Club and made progress between the Q1 & Q2 assessments. Study Club runs for an hour after school every day. Pupils should be able to complete at least four of their preps before they go home. They also have access to laptops so that they can complete online preps, e.g. Hegarty Maths and Active Learn MFL activities. Subject teachers also drop into the Study Club to help pupils complete work. Some of the comments from pupils who went to the restaurant included “I was really surprised when I received my invitation letter. I know study Club helps me to do well at school, but I didn’t know it could get me a meal as well!”, “The food was really delicious, I’m glad I went.” “I had five scrumptious plates of food” and “I’ll never forget the aroma that hit our noses as we entered the restaurant. After walking in and smelling the air we knew would enjoy the rest of the afternoon.”
