Some of the requested is being withheld in accordance with section 40 of the Act – Personal Information. Your request We received your information request on 26th October 2015 and have treated it as a request for information made under section 1(1) of the Act. You requested the following information. “Would it be possible for you provide me with a list of the schools that the 2015 intake of first year undergraduate students attended directly before joining the Kings College London? Ideally I would like this information as a csv, .xls or similar file. The information I require is: Column 1) the name of the school (plus any code that you use as a unique identifier) Column 2) the country where the school is located (ideally using the ISO 3166-1 country code) Column 3) the post code of the school (to help distinguish schools with similar names) Column 4) the total number of new students that joined Kings College in 2015 from the school. Please note: I only want the name of the school. This request for information does not include any data covered by the Data Protection Act 1998.” Our response Please see the attached spreadsheet which contains the information you have requested. Any value between 1 and 5 has been replaced with “≤5”. Under section 40(2) of the Act, the university is not obliged to provide information that is the personal information of another person if releasing would contravene any of the provisions in the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA). If a request is made for information and the total figure amounts to five people or fewer, we must consider whether this could lead to the identification of individuals and whether disclosure of this information would be in breach of our statutory obligations under the DPA. We believe that the release of the some of this information would risk identification of the individuals concerned. For this reason, the university has chosen not to provide an exact figure in cases where the true number falls between one and five. This is in accordance with guidelines from the Information Commissioner’s Office where low numbers could result in the identification of individuals. This completes the university’s response to your information request.     BENENDEN Director of Admissions PA TO THE DEPUTY HEAD PA TO THE DEPUTY HEAD PA to the Deputy Head Job Description The Role The PA to the Deputy Head supports the Deputy Head in all aspects of his role and in a manner that allows the School to maintain its position as an independent school with a reputation for excellence. The principal function of the post is to provide managerial, administrative and secretarial support to the Deputy Head. This can be achieved by taking delegated responsibility for operational matters and through planning, arranging and organising events as necessary. A close working relationship is required to enable effective time management and efficient organisation of the Deputy Head’s and PA’s combined workload. The PA is expected to take a keen interest in the Deputy Head’s work and to understand his role in terms of strategic planning and development and to provide constructive and appropriate support. The PA is also required to foster good relationships, both internally and externally. The PA is responsible directly to the Deputy Head. This position requires a high level of discretion and confidentiality. The PA works as part of an administrative team led by the Headmistress’s Personal Assistant.     LANCASHIRE COUNTY RUGBY FOOTBALL UNION ANNUAL REPORT 2017-18 THE SECRETARY’S OPENING REMARKS Firstly I have to thank the President, Steve Blackburn. Steve has done tremendous work over the year in travelling around clubs and representing the County. A truly approachable gentleman who has brought his own distinct sense of humour to the office. A lot of my Monday mornings have included a phone call from Steve starting with the phrase “I think I may have got away with it but……”. Needless to say the tales have me in stitches. As well as his Presidential duties he is an active member of the Disciplinary and Club & Community Committees which means he’s constantly on the go with his County missionary work. Steve has the huge support of his wife Val, who is also involved on the Mini & Junior committee. A couple entrenched in rugby and its administration, thank you both. To Rugby matters, Our Senior XV have reached the final and other reports in this booklet will cover how they got there, at the time of printing we are in the run up to the final at Twickenham against Hertfordshire whom we were runners up to in the final of the 2011-2012 season. Thanks to Mark Nelson, Steve Rigby, John Greenwood and all the backroom team, along with players who give up their time at the end of very busy seasons to support senior Rugby in Lancashire. Its an absolute joy to be involved in this side of County rugby and one which I look forward to each season.

PASSPORTS TO PRIVILEGE: THE ENGLISH-MEDIUM SCHOOLS IN PAKISTAN TARIQ RAHMAN _____________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT Based on two recent surveys of some selected urban areas of Pakistan, the author draws interesting conclusions in this article about the English-medium schools in Pakistan. The elites of the country have long realized the power of the English language and have even institutionalized the process of acquiring the same. As seen elsewhere in South Asia, the English-speaking elites of the country profess one thing about their national languages and practise something else for their own children. The craving for excellence in English language as a tool for a more successful life is not confined to the city elites but has penetrated the army, the air force, and the naval branches of a country that has frequently been ruled by army generals. It is also clear from this article that the privileged children of Pakistan are westernised in terms of lifestyle and liberal in attitude towards India, although after joining the state, they are seen supporting the militaristic policies of the state. _____________________________________________________________________ INTRODUCTION English is the official language of Pakistan. It is used in all domains of power - government, bureaucracy, military, judiciary, commerce, media, education and research - at the highest level. Because it is empowering to learn English, people all over the country are ready to invest in it for the future of their children. Because of this demand, all over the cities of Pakistan one can see boards advertising institutions which claim to be English-medium schools or tuition ‘centres’ claiming to teach spoken English and English for passing all kinds of examinations and interviews.

    C H APTER -II HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS 2.0 INTRODUCTORY REMARKS The purpose of this chapter is to give an account of historical back­ ground of Public Schools, both in England and in India. It is essential to know the origin and development of Public Schools in England, as Public Schools in India had been transplanted from England. 2.1 ORIGIN OF THE TERM PUBLIC SCHOOL The term 'Public School' finds its roots in ancient times. In ancient time kings and bishops used to run the schools for the poor. No fee was charged. All used to live together. It was a union of 'classes'. The expenses were met by public exchequer. Thus the name was given to these schools as Public Schools. 2.2 ESTABLISHMENT OF FIRST PUBLIC SCHOOLS William of Wykeham, Bishop of Winchester established 'Saint Marie College' at Winchester in 1382. This foundation made a crucial departure from previous practice and thus, has a great historical importance. All the previous schools had been ancillary to other establishments; they Kod been established as parts of cathedrals, collegiate churches, monasteries, chantries, hospitals or university colleges. The significance of this college is its independent nature. 17 Its historian, A.F. Leach says "Thus for the first time a school was established as a sovereign and independent corporation, existing by and for itself, self-centered and self-governed."^ The foundation of Winchester College is considered to be the origin of the English Public School because of three conditions: 1. Pupils were to be accepted from anywhere in England (though certain countries had priority).

The relationship between the two is often tenuous, but always worth noting. Educational policy in many countries is affected by the perceived conflict between religion and science. Scientific biomedicine and traditional religious medicine interact with each other around the globe. Many students at universities like Duke and UNC grapple with reconciling their faith and their scientific studies. The Duke-UNC Religion and Science Symposium will provide a platform for professors interested in the intersection of the two subjects to present their findings, while also allowing students struggling with the subjects to raise their voices. The symposium aims to promote collaboration between Duke’s Religion department and UNC’s Religious Studies department, while also reaching out to other interdisciplinary departments/institutions at the two schools. It also aims to bring members of both student bodies together for intellectually stimulating discussions. Duke and UNC house America’s top religious studies departments, which puts us in a unique position to tap into the vast knowledge they have with regards to our topic of discussion. Various Duke and UNC faculty, students, and alums have already demonstrated interest in the field, including Dr. Randall Styers (Magic, Religion, and Science; Religion and Secularism), Dr. Ebrahim Moosa (Neurohumanities, Islam), UNC Alumni and Director of NIH Francis Collins.

    Robert Bloomfield Academy: Principal’s Bulletin April 2019 Dear Parents/Carers, This term has seen a whole school focus with the House Dance Competitions, Stem Days, World Book Week and Comic Relief Day. These events bring the whole school together and reflect the wonderful whole school ethos. Other events have included Music Concerts, Harry Potter Evening, Bikeability, Sporting Fixtures, Year 7 trip to ‘Big Bang’ and Year 5 trip to Hazard Alley to name but a few. Thank you to all our staff that go above and beyond to provide so many opportunities for our students, we know the children really appreciate the extra-curricular activities. Rehearsals for our annual production which this year is Mary Poppins are in full swing and I am thoroughly enjoying being part of the preparations. After 18 years of dedicated service Val Knowler will leave us at Easter. Val started with us as a Teaching Assistant has worked in Design Technology and Science supporting them as a technician and spent the last few years in the Reprographics department, she is a valued member of staff and we wish her well in her retirement. We welcome Miss Curtis to our year 5 team and Miss Sandhu & Miss Dietri to our Teaching Assistant team. Finally, I am really pleased with the students and staff in Year 6 who are working really hard in the final push to SATs. Have a lovely Easter break and we look forward to welcoming the pupils back on the 23rd April.
