On the hardest day of the Rally de Portugal with 165.40 kilometres scheduled, on the winding gravel tracks around Porto, the high-tech four-wheel drive showed how much potential it has. Right on the first stage, Baião 1, Lappi got the historic first WRC best time in the new ŠKODA Fabia R5, 4.2 seconds faster than his team-mate Tidemand. 21.07.16 News Release Victorious Pryce to Star on Rallying's Biggest
21.07.16 News release Victorious Pryce to star on rallying’s biggest stage It’s rallying’s equivalent of a summer tour to New Zealand – that’s the size of the task facing Osian Pryce at next week’s Neste Rally Finland. Just three weeks after Rally Poland and securing the biggest result of his career, when he won two prize drives in the World Rally Championship-based Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy, the 23-year-old is ready for the season’s toughest test on Finland’s world-famous gravel rollercoaster. Formerly known as the 1,000 Lakes Rally (Finland has 187,888 lakes – as well as a lot of trees) and the Jyväskylän Suurajot (the Jyvaskyla Grand Prix), Neste Rally Finland holds a special place in the hearts of rally fans around the world. This event in this place is regularly touted as rallying’s spiritual home. It really is that good. And that tricky. Winning on these roads requires speed, nerve, and a perfect set of pacenotes to describe what’s happening on the far side of that blind crest you’re approaching flat out in top gear. Osian and co-driver Dale Furniss were supposed to compete in Finland last season, but were left disappointed when a lack of budget forced them out of the Scandinavian trip. Next week the dream comes true. Osian said: “For anybody involved in this sport, Finland has always been such a special place. Like everybody, I have grown up watching footage of guys like Marcus Grönholm or Markku Alen driving roads with unpronounceable names like Ouninpohja or Mökkiperä and now I’m here and about to be doing the same thing – it’s fantastic. -

Rally Sweden Hello. So, Snow. Except This Time the Story's About The
The Loudon-clear guide to… Rally Sweden Hello. So, snow. Except this time the story’s about the snow’s Swedish no- snow. It’s a huge shame that the recent warm weather has conspired to take the edge off what has to be one of the biggest sporting spectacles of the season: World Rally Cars dancing on ice. The World Rally Championship is full of stop-you-in-your-tracks moments and the sight of a World Rally Car on the lock-stops – front corner nibbling a snowbank at the apex while the opposite corner leans on a wall and fires powder 15 feet in the air – is right up there. Right up there. But it’s not to be this time. The warm weather has forced a complete rethink of the route and even blizzard conditions for the rest of the week wouldn’t be enough to deliver the perfect winter rally. Recipe for perfect winter roads: heavy (like heavy, heavy) snow, semi-melt, deep-freeze, light snow shower. The semi-melt puts moisture into the road and snow base which, when frozen hard, provides a rock-solid ice base for the studded tyres to dig into. The freeze will also pack the snowbanks really hard, allowing the guys to go a gear higher through some corners. We’re missing a couple of elements of that recipe this week! This week will be about staying out of trouble and keeping as many studs in place as possible. That in itself provides an intriguing event, however. Let’s see who can drive smart as well as super-quick in these compromised and challenging conditions. -

FACTBOOK 2019 WRC FACTBOOK 2019 / PROGRADE PHOTO OF THE YEAR WRC FACTBOOK 2019 / INTRO WRC FACTBOOK 2019 The 2018 WRC season will be remembered as the most exciting and dramatic in a generation. It is 15 years since a drivers’ title fight of similar magnitude and a compelling season-long battle involving three drivers was finally resolved on the last morning of the season in Australia. It was a similar story in the manufacturers’ championship. All four teams won rallies and three made the long journey Down Under still with an opportunity to claim the crown. Following a similarly enthralling and unpredictable 2017 cam- paign, when new-era World Rally Cars headlined a raft of major changes to the championship, it is clear our sport is in the midst of an unforgettable period in its history. Away from the close competition, the WRC has grown in stature. The year opened with a major launch at Birmingham’s Autosport International show and finished with a glamorous end of season gala in Sydney and with the cars showcased once more in front of Milan’s iconic cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo. Our pioneering WRC+ All Live channel revolutionised the way in which fans could enjoy the sport as it happened. Every special stage from each round was streamed live, featuring stunning onboard and helicopter footage. It was supplemented by expert analysis and reactions from across the service park – adding up to more than 325 hours of live coverage. Our traditional TV coverage thrived too. The WRC’s global audi- ence and the number of broadcast hours continue their positive trend of the last years. -

Motorsport Information FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), Rally Finland The king of the forests: Sébastien Ogier wins for Volkswagen in Finland Wolfsburg (3 August 2013). Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) claimed their fifth win of the season with Volkswagen in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) – and took a big step towards the World Championship title in the process. 180 km/h through the Finnish forests, jumps of up to 60 metres in length, and all between the ubiquitous trees: the WRC put on a thrilling show for hundreds of thousands of enthusiastic fans in Finland, who saw the overall lead constantly change hands on the first two days of the rally. A sixth triumph for the Polo R WRC in only its eighth rally outing saw Ogier and Ingrassia extend their lead in both the driver and co-driver standings to 90 points. Volkswagen also increased its advantage in the Manufacturers’ Championship. Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) finished 17th in the Polo R WRC and contributed six points to the total. Their team-mates Andreas Mikkelsen/Mikko Markkula (N/FIN) ended their home rally in tenth place, earning them one World Championship point. King at the rally of all rallies – Ogier fulfils his dream of winning in Finland The Rally Finland has been taking place since 1951, and Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia this year became only the fifth duo from outside of Scandinavia and Finland to win the rally. 2013 marked the eleventh time that a non-Nordic driver had won this iconic event in the World Rally Championship: in 1990 it was current Volkswagen Motorsport consultant Carlos Sainz (E) and his co-driver Luis Moya who broke the stranglehold of the Finn’s and Swedes for the first time. -
