Factbook 2019 Wrc Factbook 2019 / Prograde Photo of the Year Wrc Factbook 2019 / Intro FACTBOOK 2019 WRC FACTBOOK 2019 / PROGRADE PHOTO OF THE YEAR WRC FACTBOOK 2019 / INTRO WRC FACTBOOK 2019 The 2018 WRC season will be remembered as the most exciting and dramatic in a generation. It is 15 years since a drivers’ title fight of similar magnitude and a compelling season-long battle involving three drivers was finally resolved on the last morning of the season in Australia. It was a similar story in the manufacturers’ championship. All four teams won rallies and three made the long journey Down Under still with an opportunity to claim the crown. Following a similarly enthralling and unpredictable 2017 cam- paign, when new-era World Rally Cars headlined a raft of major changes to the championship, it is clear our sport is in the midst of an unforgettable period in its history. Away from the close competition, the WRC has grown in stature. The year opened with a major launch at Birmingham’s Autosport International show and finished with a glamorous end of season gala in Sydney and with the cars showcased once more in front of Milan’s iconic cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo. Our pioneering WRC+ All Live channel revolutionised the way in which fans could enjoy the sport as it happened. Every special stage from each round was streamed live, featuring stunning onboard and helicopter footage. It was supplemented by expert analysis and reactions from across the service park – adding up to more than 325 hours of live coverage. Our traditional TV coverage thrived too. The WRC’s global audi- ence and the number of broadcast hours continue their positive trend of the last years. Plenty of successes to celebrate - but we don’t stop here. After the big success of 2018’s new Rally Turkey in Marmaris, we continue working on the WRC’s global footprint, returning old favourites or bringing new adventures to the series. We welcome Chile onto the 2019 calendar for the first time and are working hard to return Kenya and Japan. It’s an exciting future we can all look forward to. The WRC service park con- tains a host of activities, including the teams’ hospitality areas, merchandising booths, partner stands, live entertainment and big screens – it is the true central HUB of a rally. The intense title fight in both the drivers’ and manufacturers’ series boosted figures up to the last day of the season. Signifi- cant year-on-year increases at the final two rounds in Spain and Australia carried the annual figure to more than 825 million. 4.1 An audience of 100 million viewed the glamorous opening of the new season at Rallye Monte-Carlo. It is the fourth consecutive year in which the TV audience from the Principality of Monaco MILLION topped 100 million. Audiences from rallies in Spain and Australia moved closer to SPECTATORS ATTENDED the Monte-Carlo figure, the epic title fights boosting their viewer 13 WRC RALLIES numbers in the region of 90 million viewers each for the first time. When the stage ended, expert studio analysis and reaction from the service park enhanced what they had watched. There were great moments on the stages and equally captivating drama off them. Some of the best moments came as viewers sha- red the frustrations of first Thierry Neuville and then Sébastien Ogier as they battled to repair their stricken cars and save their title ambitions roadside in Turkey. The classic Tour de Corse is Franceʼs round of the WRC and the first pure asphalt event of the season, following the ice-coated roads of Monte-Carlo, snow of Sweden and gravel of Mexico. Learning and developing the Yaris WRC remains the clear priority in the first season of Toyotaʼs WRC return, despite an extremely positive start with the team currently second in both the manufacturersʼ and driversʼ standings. Yaris WRC test An event that returned to the calendar in 2015 after six years away, the Tour de Corse is famous for its narrow and twisty asphalt stages, which give it the nickname ʻThe Rally of 10,000 Cornersʼ. With mountainous stages lined by rock faces on one side and steep drops on the other, as well as numerous surface changes, there is plenty to catch drivers out. Abrasive asphalt and long stages also mean that tyre wear is a factor. The rally is based in Bastia but will begin in the islandʼs capital Ajaccio on Friday April 7, with the dayʼs action consisting of two loops of two stages, averaging 30 kilometres each, which are run twice. There is no full midday service; instead just a change of tyres.

    76 th Wales Rally GB (December 4-7, 2008) Citroën targeting the championship double in Wales True to tradition, the grand finale of this year's World Rally Championship will take crews to Great Britain for the Wales Rally GB, the 15 th and ultimate encounter of the season which will settle the outcome of the 2008 Manufacturers' title chase. Having made sure of the Drivers' crown with Sébastien Loeb/Daniel Elena* in Japan, the Citroën Total squad is particularly fired up as it bids to seal the championship double. C4 WRCs have been entered for the five-time World Champions* and their Spanish team-mates Dani Sordo/Marc Martí. Two other C4 WRCs have been entered to contest the British round. They will be in the hands of Conrad Rautenbach/David Senior and of the recently-crowned Junior World Champions* Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia, and both will be prepared and run by PH Sport with the support of technical staff from Citroën Sport The majority of the route of this year's Wales Rally GB, which provides a little more than 348km of competitive action divided into 19 stages, will take competitors north of the Swansea-based service park, and features several notable changes compared with recent years. These range from a re-mix of familiar forest territory in Resolfen and classics such as Crychan run in the opposite direction, as well as a return to Builth Wells for the first time in eight years.     2021 MEDIA GUIDE Arctic Rally Finland February 26 - 28, 2021 ROUND 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 Arctic Rally Finland February 26 - 28, 2021 HYUNDAI’S HELLO Given the freezing temperatures outside, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Arctic Rally Finland and for the first of what we hope will be two visits by the WRC and Hyundai Motorsport to the country in 2021. Before I underline the team’s hopes and expectations for this event, I wish to acknowledge all the hard work that’s gone into putting on this rally in such a short amount of time. The efforts of AKK Sports and all the volunteers, particularly in the context of COVID-19, has really impressed me so a big thank you to them. It’s fair to say we showed our limits on Rallye Monte-Carlo and found ourselves licking our wounds and trying to get ahead. Unfortunately, it didn’t work there and after making some changes to our approach we start the second round of the season hoping it will be much better than the first. Having wished a fond farewell to Carlos del Barrio after Monte as he prepared for the next chapter of his career, we are pleased to welcome back Craig and Paul for the start of their half-season campaign in a Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. We know very well their ability and determination as they try to make a strong start to their season. As well as our regular World Rally Car drivers, we are giving a big chance to a really promising youngster, Oliver Solberg.

    th 5 Rally Japan (October 30-November 2, 2008) Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena: the 2008 World Champions* Today, Sunday November 2, 2008, will be remembered in rallying's record books as the day Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena claimed their fifth consecutive world title, a unique feat in the history of the sport. Indeed, the pair has reigned supreme since 2004, initially with the Citroën Xsara and, more recently, with the Citroën C4. As in 2005, they made sure of the crown in Japan, this time with one round remaining. The curtain is scheduled to come down on the season in three weeks' time in Wales where Sébastien Loeb/Daniel Elena and Dani Sordo/Marc Martí will be out to secure the Manufacturers' title, too, at the wheel of their respective C4 WRCs. Although the final leg of the 2008 Rally Japan featured just 96.43km of competitive action (divided into nine stages), everyone in the French squad found the day extremely long as they waited to pop the champagne to celebrate today's historic occasion. As was the case on Friday and Saturday, Sébastien and Daniel made no attempt to deal their rivals an ippon - style knockout blow, especially since the conditions were once again wet and muddy. Not surprisingly, the state of the stages produced a certain amount of anxiety within the team's ranks. In the end, however, the Citroën pair completed the rally in third place which was enough to hand them their fifth world title in just six full WRC campaigns! This score takes Sébastien and Daniel clear of the record they previously shared with Juha Kankkunen and, more especially, Tommi Mäkinen, who was the only driver before them to succeed in racking up four consecutive championship wins (1996 to 1999).

    MEDIA INFORMATION 2018 FIA World Rally Championship Round 12: RallyRACC Catalunya – Rally de España Michelin’s range and people play key role in Catalonia tyre strategies This year’s RallyRACC Catalunya turned out to be colder and wetter than the recent Wales Rally GB, which is certainly saying something! Action kicked off with a super-special in the streets of Barcelona on Thursday evening before crews returned to the service park in Salou, some 80km south of Catalonia’s capital. Spain’s round is the only mixed-surface fixture of the FIA World Rally Championship, with Friday’s leg an all-gravel affair followed by two days on asphalt on Saturday and Sunday. This specificity means teams need to change the configuration of their respective cars on Friday evening, since the suspension parts, transmission systems and settings they use are different for sealed-surfaces. To cover the weekend’s unique mix of surface and weather conditions, Michelin’s partners were able to choose between two distinct tyre ranges, namely the H5 (hard compound) and S6 (soft) versions of the MICHELIN Pilot Sport for the asphalt stages, plus the MICHELIN LTX Force H4 (hard) and MICHELIN LTX Force M6 (medium) for the day on dirt. Meanwhile, the French firm’s WRC2 competitors had a choice between the RH3 (hard) and RS (soft) versions of the MICHELIN Pilot Sport asphalt tyre, and between the MICHELIN Latitude Cross H90 (hard) and S80 (soft) for gravel. When heavy rain swept over the region on Saturday, crews also had the option to fit the MICHELIN Pilot Sport FW3, the specific tread pattern, high ‘sea-to-land’ tread block ratio and oblique lateral water-clearance grooves of which are designed to combine performance on wet roads with resistance to aquaplaning.
