Hayden and Seb’s first podium of the season in Turkey on the last round was a nice moment and a plus following a measured and intelligent drive, but we know we missed out on so much more. Because of that, there has been a shift in the championship battle and we need to bounce back and do so quickly. We will aim to do just that in Wales. Thierry and Nicolas led in Turkey and showed that the pace of our Coupe WRC was strong on the very rough stages we found there. The points they scored for winning the after an impressive performance showed what might have been and could yet have a crucial bearing in the final championship reckoning. It is unfortunate that Turkey didn’t go to plan for , but we have to accept the situation and come back fighting; it is what is all about. The positive things are clear: we have a good , good drivers, Thierry and Nicolas still lead the championship and were competitive on Rally GB last year. Like Thierry and Nicolas, Andreas and Anders also led in Turkey. Andreas spent much of his early career in Wales and has a good knowledge of the terrain and what he needs to do to be quick. It’s also an event that’s well suited to Hayden and we know Seb will benefit from the positive energy he’ll receive from the British fans. Finally, we welcome back Jari and Antti – our Hyundai Motorsport Driver development Program crew – for Wales. Rally GB was the first event they did with our team so it will be nice to see how they have progressed during the past 12 months with the support and guidance we have given them. We were big Colin McRae fans and my brother convinced my Dad to take us to Wales to watch the championship climax. It was a five-hour drive from home, and Colin and had crashed out by the time we got SEB MARSHALL there because we couldn’t miss school. To watch AGE: 30 and celebrating their WRC STARTS: 44 world title was a special moment.” @SebMarshall After your Rally Turkey podium, what result can you achieve on your home round of the WRC? /SebMarshallRally “Traditionally, Rally GB is one of those events where you want to run closer to the front because the roads are in a better condition, not as slippery. But given the hot and dry summer we’ve had in the UK we won’t really know what to expect until we’ve done the recce. Our aim for every rally is top five, and with a lot of new stages this year there’s a more level playing field. It’s going to be a good, fresh challenge and we like that.” What are your thoughts on this year’s route? “It’s always good to mix things up. The classic stages are there but with a few changes and it’s great to go into new forests thanks to legislation in the UK that means we can now use small sections of closed public roads. Even if we’re just crossing a main road, so much more is opened up.” As a co-driver, what will you pay attention to when preparing pacenotes for this event? “I put in small references for the fog and the dark. Sections where every corner is a flat-out left and there’s a third-gear right at the end of them, it can all look the same so I’ll pick out a log pile with a reflective marker or a marshal post where people will be standing with high-visual clothing, for example.” What are the Hyundai i20 Coupe’s strengths going to be? “Thierry was very fast in Wales last year. While the were on a good level in , myself and Hayden were fighting up there as the best of the rest and we should take confidence from that.” How do you deal with the early starts and long days – do you get much sleep? “Once the event starts if you can get six hours you’ll be doing well. But once you’re up and in the stages the adrenalin kicks in.” Wales Rally GB October 04 - 07, 2018 HYUNDAI HAPPENINGS ● Hyundai Motorsport claimed its 10th podium finish of the 2018 World Rally Championship season with third place for and Seb Marshall on Rally Turkey. It was the crew’s first podium result of the year and their seventh overall with the team. ● Early rally leader scored important championship points in fifth place following some technical issues, while maintained his lead in the Drivers’ standings by taking victory on the Power Stage. ● Hyundai Motorsport GmbH and Neuville have signed a new three-year contract, which means the Belgian will remain with the team until the end of the 2021 season. The announcement reaffirms Hyundai Motorsport’s commitment to the WRC and to Neuville, who has scored many memorable victories with the team since 2014. It also extends the partnership between Neuville and co-driver , who have proven to be a formidable force in the WRC in recent seasons. ● The Hyundai Motorsport Driver development Program crew of and Antti Linnaketo will return to WRC2 action on Wales Rally GB in their Hyundai i20 . The crew made their debut on , the penultimate round of this year’s European Rally Championship, as a gravel warm-up prior to Rally GB. In a strong performance, they finished second by just 8.3s and won seven stages. ● Huttunen was due to undertake more Rally GB testing on the Monday before the event started, with the works crews of Neuville, Mikkelsen and Paddon all in action for one day at the end of September. ● The Hyundai i30 N TCR’s competitive performance in its maiden season was rewarded in the World Challenge finale at Watkins Glen in the USA in September. Drivers Michael Lewis and Mark Wilkins finished second and third respectively in the Drivers’ championship, with their combined total of seven wins and 18 podium finishes helping to secure the Teams’ championship for Bryan Herta Autosport and deliver the Manufacturers’ title for Hyundai America. ● Hyundai customers are also involved in the title chase in TCR after a sublime performance in the penultimate round at Sachsenring last month. In only his third outing in the car in the series, Luca Engstler became the first driver this season to complete a perfect score – taking pole position and winning both races. Engstler, who has three consecutive victories in his Hyundai Team Engstler i30 N TCR, now leads the championship. ● Hyundai España-supported crews dominated last month’s Rallye Princesa de Asturias as the Spanish Tarmac Championship returned from its summer break. Three i20 R5s combined to win all but one of the rally’s 12 stages. José Antonio Suárez and co-driver Cándido Carrera claimed eight stage wins and their third victory of the season by more than 30 seconds. Fellow Hyundai driver Iván Ares was second to complete an i20 R5 one-two as he bids to maintain his national champion status. Wales Rally GB October 04 - 07, 2018 HYUNDAI IN NUMBERS 1967: Company founded in Korea and has gone on to establish sales networks in 190 countries and employs over 110,000 people. 10,000: Of those global employees some 10,000 people work at Hyundai’s R&D base in the Korean city of Namyang. 4: Across 13 rounds of the 2017 WRC, Hyundai crews scored four victories on , , Rally Poland and Rally . Poland was especially successful as the team celebrated a one-two finish, with Thierry Neuville heading home Hayden Paddon. 91: Hyundai crews amassed 91 stage wins in the 2017 season as well as 56 Power Stage points. 10: Hyundai Motorsport claimed its 10th podium finish of the 2018 season with Paddon’s third place on Rally Turkey. In total, the team took 12 individual podium finishes in 2017 and four double podiums in Corsica, Portugal, Poland and Australia. 3: As its name suggests, the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC comes with three doors compared to the five in its predecessor. But while there are two doors less, the new-for-2017 challenger has a power output of 380hp thanks to the introduction of a larger turbo restrictor – up from 33mm to 36mm. 10: The Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC is wider but lighter – it has shed 10kg compared to the New Generation i20 WRC. 1: With the current regulations allowing manufacturers to nominate three point- scoring drivers rather than two, the three Hyundai i20 Coupe WRCs are entered under one banner: Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team. 6,000: Prior to the launch of the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC, some 6,000 kilometres had been covered during extensive development testing. 50: Hyundai Motorsport’s Alzenau base is located within a 50-kilometre radius of Hyundai Motor Europe’s base in Offenbach and Hyundai Motor Europe’s Technical and Design Centre in Rüsselsheim. 0.7: Thierry Neuville’s 0.7-second victory over Sébastien Ogier on matched his winning margin over in Argentina last year – one of the closest in WRC history. It was also his ninth and Hyundai Motorsport’s 10 victory so far in the WRC. 5.3: Hyundai Motorsport has fans all around the world who follow its efforts in the WRC and Customer Racing through social media, with over 5.3 million likes on Facebook. The team also has 64,800 followers on Twitter and more than 137,700 on Instagram. Wales Rally GB October 04 - 07, 2018 ABOUT N ● First announced in 2015, the N line-up showcases Hyundai’s engineering expertise, offering high-performance models that are equally at home on the road, or out on a race circuit. ● N was born in Namyang, Korea in Hyundai’s global R&D centre and honed at the famous Nürburgring circuit, home to the Hyundai Test Centre. The close working relationship between the engineers in Korea and Germany created the foundations for the development of the line-up. The N logo also symbolises a chicane, where the models carrying the badge are most at home. ● N is Hyundai’s answer to emerging customer preferences, calling for uncompromising innovation and technology-driven performance. Designed to deliver the perfect combination of feedback, precision and predictable response, the models of the N line-up are made for driving enthusiasts, bringing a unique character to the road and further enhancing the image of the Hyundai brand. ● Inspired by Hyundai Motorsport competing at the highest possible level, the creation of N has drawn on our experience of testing the i30 N TCR, and racing on the tarmac, gravel and snow of the World Rally Championship. From the knowledge taken from the stages and the circuit Hyundai’s engineers were able to identify further handling and performance refinements during the development of the N line-up. With all this experience, N delivers exhilarating driving pleasure for everyone – pure emotions. ● The i30 N was the first road-going model to be launched from the N line- up in July 2017. The car is based on the New Generation i30. However, it was developed from the ground up in order to deliver maximum driving pleasure for everyone. Under the theme ‘Fun to Drive’, the i30 N has been developed on the basis of three cornerstones: Corner Rascal, Everyday Sports Car and Race Track Capability. It offers segment-leading high-performance elements that can be selected individually by the driver in order to tailor the car for any scenario, from a comfortable daily commute to a day at the track. ● Like the i30 N TCR the road-going i30 N is powered by a two-litre, turbocharged engine. The i30 N develops up to 275 horsepower, with a maximum torque of 353 Nm, delivered through a six-speed gearbox to the front wheels. The road- going car can reach a maximum speed of 250km/h and accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just over six seconds. Mikkelsen joined Hyundai Motorsport for three late-season events in 2017, passing his audition with flying colours by earning a long-term deal with the team. Having initially flown in skiing, he switched to rallying when injury curtailed his promising career on the slopes. Relocating to the UK for 2006, he was a winner shortly after getting his driving licence following his 17th birthday. Fifth on the 2008 Rally then made him the youngest driver to score a WRC point. Mikkelsen won back-to-back Intercontinental Rally Challenge titles in 2011- ANDREAS MIKKELSEN 12. A relative latecomer to co-driving, Jæger has enjoyed a rapid rise to the WRC ranks having started his career in 2014 in his native Norway alongside Bernt Kollevold. He made his world championship debut that year with in before going on to contest a mix of mainly Junior WRC and European championship events the following season, scoring five podiums including a win in the former. Jæger’s partnership with long-time friend Mikkelsen began in fine style in 2016 when they were second on ANDERS JÆGER Rallye Monte-Carlo, one of six podium visits that Date of birth: July 29, 1989 included two victories. His successes last year included four victories – the most of any driver – and he finished with a win in Australia. Having enjoyed huge success at junior level before stepping up to the WRC in 2009, the Belgian finished second in the 2013 standings after a highly competitive season. Those performances caught the eye of Hyundai’s fledgling WRC team and he was signed for its debut campaign. Alongside co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul, Neuville scored the team’s debut podium in Mexico 2014 and led a memorable one-two THIERRY NEUVILLE (ahead of ) on – the Date of birth: June 16, 1988 squad’s maiden victory. An experienced WRC campaigner, Gilsoul was awarded the prestigious WRC Co-driver of the Year accolade in 2016 after finishing second in that year’s championship alongside Neuville. They joined forces in the spring of 2011 and the partnership quickly blossomed with victory on the Tour de Corse, then a round of the IRC, in only their second event together. Moving to Hyundai Motorsport for 2014, Gilsoul helped to secure the team’s first victory on Rallye Deutschland that season, and Thierry is quick to praise his co-driver’s precision and matching skillsets in the cockpit. Inspired by his father to try karting as a child, Hayden went on to become a five-time New Zealand Rally Champion and won the FIA Production Car World Championship in 2011. He scored his first WRC points in Argentina that same year – and went on to win the event for Hyundai Motorsport in 2016, his maiden success at world level. Paddon has been a regular podium visitor for Hyundai since joining the team in 2014 and helped it to a one-two finish in Poland last year – a reminder of the Kiwi’s exciting potential. Highly respected Marshall will celebrate his 10th anniversary in the WRC this season, having made his debut on Rallye Deutschland in 2008. The Briton joined Hyundai Motorsport in 2015 as co-driver to , with the pair contributing significantly to the development of the team’s WRC and R5 . On selected events, they scored stage wins and points for Hyundai in 2016, but it was all change the following year when Paddon’s regular co-driver retired and Marshall took his place on a permanent basis from Rallye Deutschland onwards. The pair have gelled well, with second place in Poland 2017 being SEB MARSHALL a highlight of their partnership so far. The Finn, who was named the Finnish federation’s Future Rally Star in 2015 after winning the SM3 class in his national championship, was chosen to take part in the HMDP project after impressing the team during a rigorous evaluation process. As a result, he will undertake a programme of tests and WRC events in a Hyundai i20 R5 this season. Linnaketo’s co-driving career stretches back to 2004, when he began contesting events in his native Finland and neighbouring . He made his WRC debut in 2010 on Rally Finland, co-driving for Juha Laaksonen, and first teamed up with Huttunen in 2014 when they finished third in class SM3 on the Pirelli Ralli in Finland. The pair had been introduced that summer in a meeting facilitated by the AKK Driver Academy and, of course, went on to national success the following year on home ANTTI LINNAKETO soil. Hyundai Motorsport WHO'S WHO? Scott Noh – President Having held global roles within the Hyundai family since 1993, Mr Noh joined Hyundai Motorsport as President in March 2018 to oversee all areas of the operation, coordinating on a daily basis with in Korea. Michel Nandan – Team Principal Vastly experienced, Nandan has built the Hyundai Motorsport team from scratch including establishing the squad’s base in Alzenau, Germany and the recruitment of experienced staff. Alain Penasse – Team Manager With responsibility for logistics, organisation and operation, Penasse plays an integral role in the running of the team. Bertrand Vallat – Chief Designer A key early appointment to the Hyundai Motorsport fold, Vallat oversees the team’s engineering and technical development. Julien Moncet – Engine Department Manager Moncet took over full management of the engine department in March of this year and now spearheads all engine programmes at the company’s Alzenau facility, including WRC and Customer Racing. Ernst Kopp – Workshop Manager Kopp utilises his experience gained from working in , sportscar racing and the WRC in his role.

With the title race intensifying, the event will nevertheless play a key role in the final outcome. ● The earlier date combined with a warm, dry British summer could make for unfamiliar stage conditions, with loose gravel rather than mud testing the crews. ● Based in , an industrial hub in North Wales, the event features 23 stages over a competitive distance of 318.34 kilometres. It kicks off under the floodlights at Tir Prince Raceway on Thursday evening ahead of three days in the forests in the north and centre of the Principality. ● Friday’s action is based to the north of Wales and while stages such as Alwen, Brenig and Penmachno are firm favourites, UK government legislation permitting the temporary closure of public roads has allowed event organisers to introduce previously untried sections. There’s also two passes of the new Slate Mountain stage in The Slate Caverns visitor centre. ● The action heads south on Saturday for more classic forest stage action. Dyfi, Gartheiniog, Hafren, Myherin and Sweet Lamb are all big on challenge and spectator numbers. ● Scenic Snowdonia is the setting for two north-western stages on Sunday morning, while the new asphalt-based Llandudno stage on the streets of the seaside resort includes the finish located on the town’s promenade. ● While it’s been a WRC mainstay since the championship’s inception, Rally GB’s rich heritage goes back to 1932 when Colonel Loughborough took victory on the Royal Automobile Club-organised rally driving a Lanchester. ● The RAC Rally resumed in 1951 after the Second World War and has taken place every year since except in 1957 and 1967, with the latter event cancelled due to an outbreak of foot and mouth disease.
