MEDIA INFORMATION 2017 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) Round 1: Rallye Monte-Carlo MICHELIN tyres cover all the conditions on 2017 Rallye Monte-Carlo The opening clash of the 2017 FIA World Rally Championship saw Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia celebrate their maiden appearance for M-Sport with victory in Monaco. Varied, complex conditions ensured that the famous Rallye Monte-Carlo lived up every bit to its reputation. The season’s difficult opener proved a tense affair from start to finish as the latest-generation World Rally Cars made their first public appearance. More spectacular and more powerful, the new machines thrilled the huge crowds that lined the event’s 17 challenging stages which provided a total competitive distance of more than 380km. As ever, the conditions were rarely consistent from one loop to the next and were even highly varied on individual tests. “We had to cover the whole spectrum of typical Monte Carlo conditions,” said Jacques Morelli, the manager of Michelin’s World Rally Championship programme. “It was cold throughout, and the crews also had to contend with fresh and melting snow, ice and frost, as well as dry and wet asphalt. This year’s Rallye Monte-Carlo lived up its promise and delivered all the ingredients expected of the rally, which in turn made tyre choices extremely difficult. The teams were naturally able to count on their previous experience of the rally, but Michelin’s technicians were once again invaluable allies in the decision-making process.” While only two types of tyre are available for all the other rounds of the WRC (asphalt and gravel), the unique characteristics of the Rallye Monte Carlo necessitate four different solutions to cover all the bases. -

Motorsport Information FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), Rally Spain Champions, champions, champions, champions*! Ogier/Ingrassia claim fourth WRC title in a row with Volkswagen § Crowned with a win: Ogier/Ingrassia wrap up world title after eleven rallies § Title defence sees champions join Kankkunen and Mäkinen in exclusive club § Match point number two for Volkswagen in the Manufacturers’ Championship Wolfsburg (16 October 2016). Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) were crowned World Rally Champions for the fourth time in a row after taking victory at the Rally Spain. They guided their Volkswagen Polo R WRC to a fifth win of the season in Catalonia, finishing ahead of Dani Sordo/Marc Martí (E/E, Hyundai) und Thierry Neuville/Nicolas Gilsoul (B/B, Hyundai). Their ninth podium in eleven races triggered wild celebrations. The Frenchmen can no longer be caught at the top of the overall standings in the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). Team-mates Andreas Mikkelsen/Anders Jæger (N/N) went into the Rally Spain as their closest rivals in the title race, but the Norwegians’ hopes of winning the championship were dashed when they were forced to retire from the rally. Eighth place in the Manufacturers’ classifications for Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) means Volkswagen is well- placed to claim its fourth Manufacturers’ title in a row next time out at the Rally Great Britain. Kankkunen, Mäkinen and Ogier – up there with the biggest names in rallying 952 days in a row at the top of the table: Sébastien Ogier is only the third World Rally Champion to be crowned champion four years in a row in the pinnacle of rallying, and the fourth four-time world champion in the history of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). -

Norwegians Andreas Mikkelsen/Ola Fløene kept cool and drove the Toksport WRT run ŠKODA FABIA Rally2 evo to a strong second place overall. With ambient temperatures peaking at 35 degrees centigrade, the competition on the demanding high-speed gravel roads of Rally Poland was a tough test for men and machine. Also, the opener of the 2021 FIA European Rally Championship (ERC) celebrated its 100th birthday with an impressive entry list of 72 crews, 15 of them competing in ŠKODA FABIA. Right from the start, Norwegians Andreas Mikkelsen/Ola Fløene in a ŠKODA FABIA Rally2 evo run by Toksport WRT were locked in a fierce fight for podium positions. “It was okay, although I did some mistakes and lost some seconds,” was Mikkelsen’s comment after the first half of the Saturday leg. In general, the Rally Poland winner of 2016 – when it was part of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) – took a more cautious approach after not finishing the last WRC round in Italy. -

2018 MEDIA GUIDE Rallye Deutschland August 16 - 19, 2018 ROUND 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 Rallye Deutschland August 16 - 19, 2018 HYUNDAI’S HELLO Welcome to Rallye Deutschland, Hyundai Motorsport’s home event, which takes place during a very exciting time for the WRC with both title battles finely balanced. Although last month’s Rally Finland didn’t produce the ultimate result for our team, Hayden finished just outside the podium places after a strong drive. Thierry and Nicolas continue to lead the Drivers’ championship with an advantage of 21 points, while the Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team heads the Manufacturers’ championship by 26 points so there’s plenty of reason to be positive. I must also congratulate our HMDP crew of Jari and Antti for recording their first WRC2 podium of the year with second in that class. Rallye Deutschland is the first tarmac event on the calendar since Tour de Corse in April. Since then we’ve worked on improving the suspension, especially the dampers, and centre differential mapping with two aims in mind: to achieve more grip for the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC and find a better balance. This follows feedback from our drivers during Corsica where they reported being hampered by understeer. Our three drivers for Germany – Thierry, Dani and Andreas – have all sampled the changes during development testing and they also got the opportunity to finalise their set-ups during the recent pre-event test, which took place over five days so we could experience the vineyard roads and those within the Baumholder military range, which are very specific to this rally. -

2016 Rally Sweden February 11 - 14, 2016 ROUND 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 Rally Sweden February 11 - 14, 2016 2016 HYUNDAI’S HELLO Welcome to Rally Sweden, round two of the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship and another new challenge for Hyundai Motorsport. Rally Sweden will be the second event for the New Generation i20 WRC and a second different surface. We have tested on snow back in December and again last week with the new car and it’s gone well with no major issues. The drivers have been happy too; they’ve found good set-ups for the differential and the dampers so I think they are all quite confident. Thierry finished second in Sweden last year in the 2015 car but the drivers say that the New Generation i20 WRC feels even better. The car is a bit longer so it should be more stable on fast sections of road like you get in Sweden. We believe we have gained a bit of traction too, which is important on a low-grip surface like snow. In Sweden the car runs on gravel specification but there are specific details you can prepare for this event. You don’t want to get too much snow in the car because it adds extra weight so you have to make sure it is well sealed, inside the wheel arches and underneath the car. Also, because of the cold temperatures we don’t have to cool down the car as much as usual so we’ll use a different radiator.
