European champions Esapekka Lappi/Janne Ferm (FIN/FIN) got the first three stage best times on Saturday on the new rally car's first start in the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). Going into the final day, this sees "Flying Finn" Lappi in second place in the overall standings, directly ahead of the second ŠKODA team Pontus Tidemand/Emil Axelsson (S/S). "We are delighted with how the WRC debut in the new Fabia R5 is developing for us so far. But our main aim is to finish the rally," said ŠKODA Motorsport Director Michal Hrabánek. On the hardest day of the Rally de Portugal with 165.40 kilometres scheduled, on the winding gravel tracks around Porto, the high-tech four-wheel drive showed how much potential it has. Right on the first stage, Baião 1, Lappi got the historic first WRC best time in the new ŠKODA Fabia R5, 4.2 seconds faster than his team-mate Tidemand. "Yesterday we had stones, today sand; the conditions were totally different to Friday. -

2021 MEDIA GUIDE Arctic Rally Finland February 26 - 28, 2021 ROUND 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 Arctic Rally Finland February 26 - 28, 2021 HYUNDAI’S HELLO Given the freezing temperatures outside, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Arctic Rally Finland and for the first of what we hope will be two visits by the WRC and Hyundai Motorsport to the country in 2021. Before I underline the team’s hopes and expectations for this event, I wish to acknowledge all the hard work that’s gone into putting on this rally in such a short amount of time. The efforts of AKK Sports and all the volunteers, particularly in the context of COVID-19, has really impressed me so a big thank you to them. It’s fair to say we showed our limits on Rallye Monte-Carlo and found ourselves licking our wounds and trying to get ahead. Unfortunately, it didn’t work there and after making some changes to our approach we start the second round of the season hoping it will be much better than the first. Having wished a fond farewell to Carlos del Barrio after Monte as he prepared for the next chapter of his career, we are pleased to welcome back Craig and Paul for the start of their half-season campaign in a Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC. We know very well their ability and determination as they try to make a strong start to their season. As well as our regular World Rally Car drivers, we are giving a big chance to a really promising youngster, Oliver Solberg. -

While experienced Tidemand is aiming to score his fifth 2017 victory in WRC 2 category, youngsters Veiby and Nordgren want to demonstrate their skills behind the steering wheel of the works ŠKODA FABIA R5. “After Monte Carlo Rally for the second time in 2017 we are running three works teams in a round of the World Rally Championship. Having prematurely won the WRC 2 Championship with Pontus Tidemand and Jonas Andersson, also having secured the FIA WRC 2 Championship for Teams, I am really looking forward to the performance of our three teams,” explains ŠKODA Motorsport boss Michal Hrabánek. ŠKODA MOTORSPORT PRESS RELEASE Page 1 of 4 ŠKODA Motorsport Crews Driver: Jan Kopecký (Czech Republic) Born: 28 January 1982 in Opočno/today Czech Republic First rally: 2001 Rally Šumava/Czech Republic (ŠKODA OCTAVIA Grp.A) First WRC rally: 2002 Rally Deutschland/Germany (Toyota Corolla WRC) Co-drivers: Pavel Dresler and Jan Hloušek (Czech Republic) To follow the footsteps of his father Josef, who was an avid rally driver, Jan Kopecký started karting at the age of 13. As soon as possible the young Czech changed to circuit racing, working up his ranks on national level. Soon he started winning, among others the 2001 ŠKODA OCTAVIA Cup on the race track. Using the rally version of the ŠKODA OCTAVIA Kopecký gave his rallying debut the same year and never looked back to circuits. Competing a ŠKODA OCTAVIA WRC in the Czech Championship (ČMR), he impressed the right people at ŠKODA Motorsport. Promoted to factory driver he won his first of today six Czech titles in 2004, driving a ŠKODA FABIA WRC. When after a break ŠKODA Motorsport returned to rallying in 2009 with the ŠKODA FABIA S2000, Jan Kopecký again was one of the factory drivers. He finished the season second overall in the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) and third overall in the Czech Championship. He backed up these results by finishing second overall in the IRC the three following years in a row, always driving a ŠKODA FABIA S2000. In 2012 Kopecký, since then partnered with co-driver Pavel Dresler, again became Czech Champion, taking the European Rally Championship (ERC) a year later with a record six wins. -

MEDIA INFORMATION 2020 FIA World Rally Championship Round 4: Rally Estonia MICHELIN ready for action as the 2020 WRC campaign resumes with a new-look final run-in After an interruption of practically five months since March’s Rally Mexico which was itself shortened slightly as the Covid-19 pandemic took a grip, the 2020 FIA World Rally Championship fires back up this weekend in Estonia. Included for the first time as part of the WRC calendar, Rally Estonia did not feature on the initial 2020 schedule. However, tightening travel restrictions have led the series’ organisers to focus on European venues and postpone the longer-haul fixtures until next season. After the year’s wintry openers, namely Rallye Monte-Carlo and Rally Sweden, Mexico was the first of the championship’s initially-planned gravel events, which means Rally Estonia will be the second loose-surface round of the campaign. Having emerged as the Baltic States’ biggest motorsport event since it was first organised in 2010, the rally is reputed above all for its fast stages and jumps, yet it also includes a number of technical forest roads that range from narrow to wide. The defending world champion Ott Tänak will obviously be keen to post a top performance on home soil in his Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC which is equipped with Michelin tyres, as are all the cars of the sport’s stars who are eager to get behind the wheel in anger for the first time since mid-March. For sanitary reasons, Rally Estonia will run to a compact format, with the weekend’s 17 stages (11 on Saturday, September 5, plus six on Sunday) totalling just 232.64 kilometres. -
