The EPP-ED is the only political group which has members from all Member States. It has members all from the same national political party in 10 Member States, members from two different national political parties in 11 Member States, members from three different national political parties in 4 Member States, and members from four national political parties in 2 Member States (The Czech Republic and Italy). It is worth noting that in some Member States this simply reflects regional differences in the political landscape.

There are 13 Member States not represented in this group. 1 Member State, Romania, is represented by an MEP without national party affiliation; in 9 Member States all the MEPs in this group come from the same national party; in 2 Member States they come from two different parties (in Belgium, this is on the basis of language); and in 2 Member States (the UK and Spain) there are three parties represented respectively. This group has no members in 13 Member States. It has members all coming from the same political party in 10 Member States; it is worth noting that both the Sinn Fein MEPs (one from the UK, one from Ireland) are in this group. In Greece and France two different parties belong to this group, and in Italy and Portugal this group includes three political parties. As this is a political group on the left of the political spectrum, it is worth noting that the only Member State from the so-called ‘new Member States’ of the former Eastern Europe to have members in this group is the Czech Republic.

This group, too, only has members in 9 Member States. Given that this is a group of people who see themselves as non-attached (i.e. it is not really a group at all) it is curious to see that only one MEP in this group describes himself as ‘independent’; whereas all the others belong to a political party in their country. This is the group where the other members of the Liga Polskich Rodzin and the UK Independence Party are to be found; in most of the Member States represented in this group, the MEPs all come from the same party at national level; in Austria, they come from two different parties and in Italy and in the UK they come from three different parties. It is worth noting, that in the UK, the vast majority of MEPs of the Conservative and Unionist Party are in the PPE-ED group rather than in this one.
