MISSION AND OBJECTIVES

Mission

The mission of Brilliant is to educate, inspire, entertain and increase public awareness within our community by providing a forum for interaction with national and international leaders, role models, philanthropists, artists, humanitarians, and other prominent members of our society.

Objectives

✦ Present speakers and performers who appeal to a wide-cross section of our communities. Through spoken word and performance, our programs inspire, educate and entertain.

✦ Foster individual and collective involvement in the local community as a result of exposure to featured speakers and artists and their areas of interest, experience and success.

✦ Organize local community and education-based partnerships within speaker or artist’s field and foster these relationships with on-going activities to benefit the community.

✦ Provide resources and assistance to communities engaged in the areas of featured speaker and artist’s particular field.

✦ Develop and publish resources relevant to the work of the organization and make these available to the community via libraries and other public access vehicles.

EDUCATE | INSPIRE | ENTERTAIN

Experience Brilliance: At least eight times out of the year, we host someone ‘brilliant.’ Presenting international leaders, prize-winning authors, performing artist, actors, eminent scientists, artists and business leaders, we offer once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to experience the world’s greatest minds and talents. Brilliant inspires leadership in Houston’s youth and their families – from the young to the young at heart. Each program takes the audience through his or her life – sharing their unique perspective, insight and talents. Since its inception, Brilliant has presented luminaries: Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, Sir Sidney Poitier, former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan, Dame , Diana Ross, Dr. Maya Angelou, , Betty White, President Mikhail Gorbachev, Edvin Marton, Robert Duvall and Diane Keaton, Texas Tenors, Potted Potter to name just a few.

Annual Goals • Present at least eight of the world’s most iconic people and productions to Houston • Directly inspire, motivate and entertain at least 25,000 audience members • Ensure programs are affordable & accessible • Attract new audiences to Houston for spoken word, performing and visual arts programs • Indirectly reach at least 25,000,000 individuals through on-line programs and video

Brill Talks: Brill Talks engages middle and high school students in direct, interactive learning by inviting local, national and international members of our society to speak at local schools. They share their life’s journeys and what drove them to their heights of success. This open dialogue inspires, improves interpersonal relationships, builds cross-cultural understanding, and motivates the students to stay with their dreams and goals while making a difference in both their communities and the world. These programs have featured Sidney Poitier, CNN Hero Doc Hendley; Global Colors Founder Barton Brooks; Houston Dynamo’s Eddie Robinson and many others.

Annual Goals • Present at least nine role models to Houston’s middle and high schools in • economically challenged areas • Directly inspire 5,400 students each academic school year • Indirectly reach 675,000 students through distribution of Brill Talks DVD’s • All Brill Talks are offered at no charge to schools, libraries and students

COMMUNITY IMPACT Direct Impact

Many of the most memorable moments throughout history derived from a heartfelt speech or conversation that was given by someone influential and well known. Primarily serving the greater Houston area, we have made a direct and positive impact on more than 95,000 guests through our programs. Our programs tickets are priced at only one-third of production costs. Our programming ensures extraordinary role models are made accessible to all.

Indirect Impact

The motivational and inspirational aspects of our speakers’ messages are amplified through the intense and extensive pre- and post-media coverage, which includes television, print, radio, and electronic; as well as far-reaching regional, national and international publicity.

For each program, media coverage (excluding search engine and news sites such as Yahoo, Google, etc.) reaches conservatively, 25 million individuals, readers and listeners. Each program is well advertised three months ahead of time including prime-time television, social media, radio, electronic and outdoor advertising.
