THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Three Comings of Jesus. This is the start of the third “Coming”, his glorious advent at the end of time Church Year. This Sunday, we put aside the Gospel to establish his Father’s Kingdom and reward those of Matthew and take up the , the old- who have trusted and followed him. The Scriptures est and shortest of the four . St. Mark was have rightfully expressed our yearning for the “Day of writing St. Peter’s memoires and was focused on Ro- the Lord”. But they have also reminded us of an im- man converts. His gospel helps us appreciate the portant fact: Jesus, Lord of the Universe, is the Mas- three comings of Christ. We start with his first com- ter of Time. He can come to the Earth as often as he ing 2000 years ago. How the Son of God, in an in- wants, over thousands of years. But we have only credible act of love, came to live among us, reveal one shot, and, for most of us, it does not even last God to us, teach us how to relate to him, bring us 100 years. And to make things worse, it could end forgiveness and prepare us to spend eternity with when we least expect it. So the Lord is saying that God in heaven. Mark also helped us become sensi- we should not plan on getting our house in order at tive and aware of Christ’s among us: the last moment; we should be living in an ordered in the poor, the needy, the suffering, the persecuted, house all the time. And that order is pretty clear: first, the stranger and the outcast. He helped us look learn all we can about who Jesus is and why he through these disguises so that we could find Christ, came the first time; second, seek him out and serve serve him and get closer to him as we “lived, invest- him in his many apparitions and disguises during our ed, or spent” our time on earth. And for the past lifetime and thirdly, get ourselves ready for our great three weeks, the Church has focused on the Lord’s and permanent reunion with him on his third visit.

PLANNING FOR CHRISTMAS MASSES Christmas is just five weeks away. Our neighboring parishes are taking reservations and handing out tick- ets. We’d rather not do this. We really don’t want to refuse admission to anyone, especially at Christmas. And yet, we can’t ignore the pandemic. Since the real issue is the large attendance at the 4 PM Mass on Christmas Eve, we would like to suggest: 1. Consider attending one of the other three masses (6 PM, 8:30 AM or 10:30 AM). Because of the vi- rus, there is no children’s liturgy this year. 2. Leave the pews with the red tags empty; Make sure you “social distance” unless you’re sitting with your family. 3. Share the pew: move in, so someone else can have a seat. 4. If you can, wear a mask. It will make those around you feel safer and we’ll all have a healthy holiday. 5. Even if it’s Christmas, please encourage those who are ill to stay home and celebrate Christmas Mass on TV.

Hopefully, there will be “room at the inn” for everyone.

From The Desk of Mrs. Dzujna, CRE As Advent Season begins and we await the coming of Jesus, will you be prepared? In our daily lives, we try to make ourselves ready for the future. This year has been particularly difficult to even consider planning for anything, even a simple trip to the store. The Scripture readings during Advent remind us that we are called to be attentive to our spiritual lives. We are to wait in hope so that the coming of Jesus will not catch us by sur- prise. How can we be spiritually prepared? Some sug- gestions include talking about a time when you received surprise visitors at your house, perhaps a neighbor stop- ping by or a relative who arrived unannounced. Was your household prepared to receive this surprise guest? What might your family have done differently if you knew ahead of time that this visitor was going to arrive? Jesus told his disciples that only the Father knows when the will come in . Read what Jesus told his disciples about this in Mark 13:33–37. As you prepare for Advent, I would like to remind you that this is the year that third graders will be receiving both First Holy Communion and Confirmation. After the holidays, we will need to begin the process of pre- paring your child to receive the Sacraments. Please phone with any questions. We are here to help you! “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomor- row.” Albert Einstein CATHOLIC SERVICES & PROGRAMS
