Employees Frankie gets the shaft to contest loss of jobs Grievance hearing set to discuss allegations By John McCreadie Daily staff writer The grievances of two SJSU employees will be heard Saturday to determine if they were improperly removed from their union offices. Martha O'Connell and Melissa Miller are trying to re- gain their respective positions as vice president and sec- retary-treasurer of Chapter 307 of the California State Employees Association. The members of the SJSU chap- ter, present at the meeting, voted them out of office with a two-thirds majority on Oct. 18. The charges against the two, launched by the chap- ter's executive board, included attempted fraudulent use of chapter funds, refusal to carry out the decisions of the executive board and neglect of duty. There were ten charges in all. Both women had previously filed grievances against four members of the chapter's executive board for at- tempting to censor an article concerning the gay rights bill in the April issue of SJSU's chapter publication, the Forum newsletter. They also charged misconduct by the board. According to O'Connell. the board permitted per- sonal attacks against them at board meetings.
