DECEMBERJULY 2021 2015 Westfield Senior Center Lunch Program Details In an effort to both expand and simplify our lunch program at the new Senior Center, a number of changes will be initiated beginning on December 1. As we expand our lunch program, we are excited to announce that all meals will be prepared in house. Although we are grateful for the many lunches that we received over the from Highland Valley Elder Services, our brand new commercial kitchen affords us the opportunity to do all of our own meal preparation, Monday through Friday. As our lunch program grows, it is also necessary to increase our price to $3 per meal. Our last price increase was in 2006 and surely our lunch participants understand that food prices have gone upEntranc significantly sincee then. Our lunch includes a hearty entree, coffeeExit or tea, and dessert. In attempting to simplify the process of dining at the new Senior Center, we are eliminating all advance sign- ups and reservations. For years, we served lunch at the old Senior Center on a first come, first served basis. We Westfield are returning to our roots and will utilize our new ‘MySeniorCenter’ data management system to help streamline the process. CouncilCouncil On On Aging Aging NEW! THIS SUPPLEMENT IS BEING PROVIDED TO YOU BY THE WESTFIELD NEWS THIS SUPPLEMENT IS BEING PROVIDED TO YOU BY THE WESTFIELD NEWS PAGE 4 WESTFIELD COUNCIL ON AGING JULY 2021 Exercising in the Fresh Air Our Under-the-Tent fitness classes create an inclusive and accessible outdoor environment right in the Senior Center parking lot. Consider some of the benefits of outdoor exer- cise. Participants engage in physical activity and social interaction, both of which are important for healthy aging. Exercising outside is a natural antidepressant. Sunshine increases serotonin, a hormone that affects your mood. And exercise itself produces endorphins, another feel-good hor- mone that boosts your mood and reduces pain. Exercising outside in the fresh air and sunshine is enjoyable and may feel more like play than a chore. And if you’re lucky, a couple of the fighter jets from Barnes Airport will fly overhead during your workout and salute your efforts! Remember to wear lightweight clothing and bring your water bottle. Under-the- Tent fitness opportunities include Carol Palmer’s ‘Totally FUN Fitness’ class on the first and last Wednesday of the month (pre-registration required); line dancing with Clara Sanborn every Friday; and our Tuesday/Thursday class for men, ‘Male Call!’ led by Michelle Urbanski.
