22. mail andis USA suursaadik Jeffrey D. Levine meie dirigeerimise osakonna juhatajale professor Tõnu Kaljustele üle muusikamaailma ihaldatuima auhinna – Grammy.

Since winning first prize in the Sixth Estonian National Piano Competition in 2002, Sten Lassmann has been regularly appearing as soloist and chamber musician. Concerts and competitions have brought him all over the world, to play in some of the most prestigious venues, such as the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, Purcell Room in London, the Large and Small Halls of the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow, the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatoire Concert Hall in Milan and the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. In 2003 he toured Prokofiev’s Second Concerto, and in 2010 Beethoven’s Fifth, with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, and in 2008 gave the Estonian premiere of James Macmillan’s Second Concerto. His solo repertoire includes works from the Baroque to the modern. Since 2008 he has been engaged on a project to make the first-ever recording of the complete piano works of Heino Eller, which was also his PhD project at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He is also a keen chamber musician, with a large repertoire of duo works for violin, cello and clarinet, piano trio and piano photo: Kaupo Kikkas photo: quintet. Sten Lassmann was born in 1982 in Tallinn into a family of musicians. He started his musical education at the Tallinn Central School of Music in 1989, studying piano with Ell Saviauk and Ira Floss, and continued at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (BMus, MMus with Distinction) with Ivari Ilja. Eesti Muusika- ja Teatriakadeemia Marie-Helen Aavakivi Professor Johannes Paulseni viiuliõpilaste repertuaar ja esitusstiil 1930. aastatel Eestis Töö doktorikraadi taotlemiseks Juhendaja: prof Kristel Pappel Tallinn 2019 Abstrakt Uurimistöö „Professor Johannes Paulseni viiuliõpilaste repertuaar ja esitusstiil 1930. aastatel Eestis“ (The repertoire and performance style of professor Johannes Paulsen’s violin students in the 1930s Estonia) on osa loomingulis-uurimuslikust doktoriprojektist, mille juurde kuulub ka käesoleva töö autori loominguline tegevus samal perioodil kirjutatud Eesti heliloojate teoste interpreteerimisel. Töö eesmärk on näidata Eesti viiulimängukoolkonna kujunemist seoses rahvusvahelise taustaga. 2 Sisukord Abstrakt ..................................................................................................................................................................

  • ABSTRACTS of PAPERS a Half Century of Baltic Activism in the United States
The 23rd Conference of the Association for the Advancement of Baltic Studies (AABS) University of Illinois at Chicago, April 26-28, 2012 “The Global Baltics: The Next Twenty Years” ABSTRACTS OF PAPERS (listed in alphabetical order by first author’s last name) Note: Abstracts of Roundtables and Plenaries are listed at the end, beginning on p. 67. A Half Century of Baltic Activism in the United States: JBANC at 50 Karl Altau (JBANC) The Joint Baltic American National Committee, Inc. (JBANC) has represented the Baltic-American communities since its founding in 1961. This has included working actively for 30 years to ensure the restoration of independence for Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania by 1991, and campaigning for a decade to help the three Baltic countries achieve NATO membership in 2004. JBANC’s mission has transitioned since then to encompass new goals, and it remains an influential actor within the foreign policy environment in Washington, DC. But how do we measure success? What are future prospects with demographic changes and the evolving diaspora dynamic? With Baltic independence restored now 20 years ago, is there still a place for common Baltic- American advocacy? Recent JBANC activities and issues have refocused on the human rights dimension – a core issue from earlier days – speaking out for political prisoners in Belarus, and condemning political murders in the Russian Federation. In addition, with the NATO Summit coming up in Chicago in May 2012, there is much focus on transatlantic relations, and on keeping the United States actively engaged with the Baltic countries. To achieve its aims, JBANC not only combines the cooperative efforts and support of the Baltic-American community and organizations, but works actively in coalitions and with a number of other partners.

Eesti Muusika- ja Teatriakadeemia Heli Ernits Jaan Tamme nimeline puhkpillikvintett: esitusstiili analüüs salvestiste põhjal Töö doktorikraadi taotlemiseks Juhendaja: prof Urve Lippus prof Toomas Siitan Tallinn 2016 Abstrakt Uurimistöö „Jaan Tamme nimeline puhkpillikvintett: esitusstiili analüüs salvestiste põhjal“ (The Jaan Tamm Woodwind Quintet: a recording-based analysis of their performance style) eesmärgiks on salvestiste põhjal iseloomustada 1942–1992 tegutsenud eesti kammer- muusikaansambli Jaan Tamme nimelise puhkpillikvinteti esitusstiili ning tuua välja selle olulisemad jooned. Peamiseks uurimisprobleemiks on mängu iseloomulike joonte ning nendes aastakümnete jooksul toimunud muutuste määratlemine, mida käsitletakse muusika esituskunstis toimunud üldiste muutuste kontekstis. Uurimistöö on osa loomingulis- uurimuslikust doktoriprojektist, mis hõlmab ka autori loomingulist tegevust puhkpilli- kammermuusika interpreteerimisel. Töö aluseks on Jaan Tamme nimelise puhkpillikvinteti 28 salvestist aastatest 1958– 1987 Eesti Rahvusringhäälingu arhiivis. Töö esimeses etapis on uurimine põhinenud kultuuri- ja kirjandusteadlaste poolt kasutataval „tiheda kirjelduse“ meetodil, toetudes Clifford Geertzi artiklile „Tihe kirjeldus: tõlgendava kultuuriteooria poole“ (2007). Uurimise teises etapis on Jaan Tamme nimelise puhkpillikvinteti salvestisi kuuest erinevast muusikateosest võrreldud samade teoste esitustega teiste ansamblite poolt. Detailses töös salvestistega on põhimeetodina kasutatud võrdlevat analüüsi. Kahe etapi uurimistulemused on
