Eesti Muusika- Ja Teatriakadeemia Eesti Muusika- ja Teatriakadeemia Marie-Helen Aavakivi Professor Johannes Paulseni viiuliõpilaste repertuaar ja esitusstiil 1930. aastatel Eestis Töö doktorikraadi taotlemiseks Juhendaja: prof Kristel Pappel Tallinn 2019 Abstrakt Uurimistöö „Professor Johannes Paulseni viiuliõpilaste repertuaar ja esitusstiil 1930. aastatel Eestis“ (The repertoire and performance style of professor Johannes Paulsen’s violin students in the 1930s Estonia) on osa loomingulis-uurimuslikust doktoriprojektist, mille juurde kuulub ka käesoleva töö autori loominguline tegevus samal perioodil kirjutatud Eesti heliloojate teoste interpreteerimisel. Töö eesmärk on näidata Eesti viiulimängukoolkonna kujunemist seoses rahvusvahelise taustaga. 2 Sisukord Abstrakt ................................................................................................................................................................... 2 1. Üks nendest on Johannes Karl Paulsen (1879–1945). Töö eesmärgiks on näidata Eesti viiulimängukoolkonna kujunemist seoses rahvusvahelise taustaga. • ARSC Journal, Fall 1989 213 Sound Recording Reviews
Sound Recording Reviews The Music and Arts Programs of America CD offers the entire broadcast program of January 19, 1952, a typical though not particularly exceptional example of Reiner's work on the radio at this time. His Bart6k "calling card" included the two Rumanian Dances in the orchestration of Leo Weiner (not Tibor Serly, as indicated). He recorded both the Debussy Suite and Ravel's Le tombeau de Couperin music two days later with the same orchestra for RCA Victor, and had previously recorded Til Eulenspiegel with the RCA Victor Symphony Orchestra, which included players from NBC. The gem of this present CD is the Ravel Suite, a superb reading of that composer's precise timbre and rhythmic subtlety. Possibly for legal reasons, the orchestra is labelled "The Symphony of the Air," a designation that did not appear until after Toscanini's retirement in 1954. Despite minor pitch problems, the CD transfer is acceptable for its vintage, if only because the RCA Victor recordings of the three principal works are no longer available. Of these recordings from broadcasts, the two most important by far are the Salome and the Walkilre Act II, not only for Fritz Reiner's conducting but also for their exceptional casting. In both releases, the sheer excitement generated by singers and conductor will overcome any sonic limitations. Reviewed by Philip Hart New Reiner CDs Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major, Op. 58 (Recorded Orchestra Hall April 22, 23, 1963); Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 73 (Recorded Orchestra Hall May 4, 12, 1961).

Since winning first prize in the Sixth Estonian National Piano Competition in 2002, Sten Lassmann has been regularly appearing as soloist and chamber musician. Concerts and competitions have brought him all over the world, to play in some of the most prestigious venues, such as the Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto, Purcell Room in London, the Large and Small Halls of the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow, the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatoire Concert Hall in Milan and the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing. In 2003 he toured Prokofiev’s Second Concerto, and in 2010 Beethoven’s Fifth, with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, and in 2008 gave the Estonian premiere of James Macmillan’s Second Concerto. His solo repertoire includes works from the Baroque to the modern. Since 2008 he has been engaged on a project to make the first-ever recording of the complete piano works of Heino Eller, which was also his PhD project at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He is also a keen chamber musician, with a large repertoire of duo works for violin, cello and clarinet, piano trio and piano photo: Kaupo Kikkas photo: quintet. Sten Lassmann was born in 1982 in Tallinn into a family of musicians. He started his musical education at the Tallinn Central School of Music in 1989, studying piano with Ell Saviauk and Ira Floss, and continued at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (BMus, MMus with Distinction) with Ivari Ilja. He later studied also at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris with Brigitte Engerer and at the Royal Academy of Music in London (MMus, Dip RAM, PhD) with Ian Fountain.

  • My Top 10 Violin Music
My Top 10 Violin Music Prepared by David Chan for GTA Audio January 16, 2012 *Prior consensus and permission by the GTAA group are mandatory, before this write-up will be copied or forwarded to any party outside the group. Thank you! Foreword This is my first write-up on a series of ten that I aim to share my beloved music with my friends in the GTAA. Please bear with the fact that I never studied music, never played any instrument and have attended too few concerts. The lists of music are solely my personal favorites, and are not intended to be comprehensive in each category. My picks of the performance are also based on my own limited experience, and are not supposed to be the best of that piece. Therefore please treat them as notes of a music lover or an audiophile, rather than those of a music critic or a reviewer. I know very little about chamber music; the quintets, quartets, trios, sonatas and the like and therefore I would shy away and leave it to the more capable hands and ears, like those of our dear friends, Lawrence and Len, to do justice for this rich music category. I’ll consider my time and effort well spent if the write-ups will lure some of you to search and buy the music, and attract feedback on some other important titles as well as alternative recordings that I neglected to include. I’ll also give higher priority to those recordings that are more accessible and affordable, and whenever possible show their CD equivalents.

Fritz Kreisler made this remark after hearing Hassid (or Chasyd, the name with which he was born) in the late thirties at the invitation of the teenager's teacher, Carl Flesch. Kreisler's statement must be taken as hyperbole inspired by astonishment, a response shared by other invited guests such as Szigeti and Thibaud, but echoed with unsettling consistency by many veteran collectors ofviolin recordings.

Tall claims from Pvarious sources, predicting that they would have a vaccine within x months/years, still need verification. From absorbing advanced digital technology to perching a renowned conductor on a huge scaffolding to conduct La bohème in the open is an indicator of the lengths organisations will go to, to bring back audiences, where the real experience is difficult to replicate. However, the second-best experience of witnessing performances at home certainly needs to be pursued for the dual purpose of immediate gratification with current standards, as well as in many cases, invaluable archiving. Our head of the Digital Division, a four-time National Award winner, has written about our plans in this issue. Added inputs will surely be discussed when our council meets, fairly soon. An interesting gathering of the decision-makers heading performing arts centres and major institutions from the United States, Europe, the U.K., Australasia, etc. seemed to seriously veer towards various attempts to bring audiences back. Certainly, the sad pictures of football and tennis tournaments played sans the vital element – people – were convincing enough. So, the future effort of the NCPA also needs to concentrate in these directions.
