I was looking at the newsletter and was wondering about the DNA. You mention that it now includes autosomal tests and that you have quite a bit of data.. I looked around (FTDNA, one name study) to see what I could find but was not able to find such data. I have taken a DNA test (Ancestry) and have several connections to William Whitlock and Sarah Hutchings (among others) so would be interested in seeing other possible links. Perhaps you could point me to the correct spot.

I also thought that I would have a look at 20161201W01.ged to see if there was anything that I was missing and found that I have some differing and some added details.

You have that John Holman (b. 1730), the son of John Holman and Agnes Hernaman married Margaret Gorden and were the parents of Rebecca Holman.

This is the same as I had a couple of years ago but I then found the following record in Find My Past :

First name(s) John Last name Holman Marriage date 14 Oct 1741 Place Peters Marland Spouse's first name(s) Margaret Spouse's last name Gorden

That means that the John (above) would have been 11 when the marriage took place. It appears that it is a different John or the Margaret that appears on Rebecca's baptism is a different Margaret.

I had spent a lot of time researching the Holman line back to the Prust family so I wanted the answer to be a different Margaret and an unrecorded marriage. I then found a John Hollman (John son of Lewis Hollman and Joan his wife was baptized February the 14th 1718 at Peters Marland, Devon, England) who would fit The deciding fact was that one of the children of John and Margaret was Lewis.

An interesting extension of this was uncovered by a fellow researcher in Alberta who found a couple of sources that link the Hutchings and Holmans

Lavinia Pearse was a common ancestor whose mother was Joan Dyke. Joan's brother, John, was an ancestor of the Carnarvon family (hence a connection to 'Downton Abbey' and King Tut's tomb) as well as the Spencers (i.e. William and Harry are my 10th cousins).
