PhytoKeys 9: 15–179. doi: 10.3897/phytokeys.9.2279 Abstract Th e Department of Ñeembucú is one of the least well-documented areas of eastern Paraguay, and the fl ora is composed of a mixture of forest and Chaco elements. Regions like Ñeembucú are often considered of lower diversity and interest that more forested regions; this results from both actual species richness fi gures and from under-collecting due to perception as uninteresting. We present here a checklist of the vascular plants of Ñeembucú, which includes 676 taxa (including infraspecifi c taxa and collections identifi ed only to genus) in 100 families and 374 genera. Four hundred and thirty nine (439) of these are new records for Ñeembucú and of these, 4 are new published records for Paraguay.

The species occurs spontaneously on Amazonian river margins Keywords: and requires a low amount of nutritional resources. Further, Myrciaria dubia fruits are collected via extractivism Fruit and managing this process is still at an incipient stage. The present study investigated the anatomical and his Camu-camu tochemical aspects of the seeds of five clones of Myrciaria dubia. Bentilizen * Dudekula Meharoon , Somasekhar Vanita, Purnima Ashok, Patil Swaraj Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, KLE University’s College of Pharmacy Rajajinagar, Bangalore, Karnataka, India ABSTRACT A flavonol glucoside, namely populnin (Kaempferol-7-O-glucoside ) was isolated from the leaves of Trichilia connaroides (W.&A.) Bentilizen. Investigation of the methanolic leaf extract of Trichilia connaroides for analgesic activity led to the isolation of populnin. Structural elucidation of the isolated compound was achieved by IR, 1H-NMR and LC-MS. The methanolic extract and the isolated compound were tested for analgesic activity using the Eddy’s hot plate method and the Acetic acid induced writhing test. In both tests populnin showed significant analgesic activity (P<0.001) at a dose of 50 mg/Kg b.w. The methanolic extract and populnin did not show any acute toxicity. Isolation of the flavonol glucoside and the activity observed in this study may explain in part the use of the tree in traditional medicine as a crude analgesic drug. • Identification of Antimalarial and Larvicidal Compounds
IDENTIFICATION OF ANTIMALARIAL AND LARVICIDAL COMPOUNDS FROM Trichilia megalantha HARMS AND Trichilia welwitschii C.D.C. (MELIACEAE) BY DORCAS ADENIKE FADARE (MATRIC NO. 58575) B.Sc. (Hons) Chem, MSc. (InOrg. Chem.), M.Phil. Pharmacogosy (UI) A thesis in the Department of Pharmacognosy Submitted to the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Ibadan in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY (Ph.D) OF THE UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN, IBADAN March, 2017 i ABSTRACT Malaria is the second leading cause of death from infectious diseases in Africa. The global burden of malaria is increasing due to drug-resistant parasites and insecticide- resistant mosquitoes. Meliaceae has been known to possess antimalarial, larvicidal and other properties but many Nigerian Trichilia species have not been investigated. Thus there is dearth of information on the antimalarial and larvicidal activities of Trichilia megalantha (TM) and Trichilia welwitschii (TW). Therefore, this study investigated the antimalarial and larvicidal activities of both plants. Leaf, stem bark and root of TM (FHI 109556) and TW (FHI 109557) were extracted by maceration in methanol. The extracts (100-800 mg/kg) were subjected to in vivo mouse- model 4-day suppressive antimalarial evaluation using Plasmodium berghei ANKA strain. Toxicity was determined in vivo in mice and in vitro using 3-(4, 5-dimethylthiazol- 2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and brine shrimp lethality (BSL) assays. The larvicidal activities of extracts and compounds were evaluated on Anopheles gambiae larvae. Antioxidant activity was also investigated with 1, 1- diphenyl-2- picrylhydrazyl radical. Chloroquine, N, N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide (DEET), gallic acid, doxorubicin and etopoxide were used as positive controls in the antimalarial, larvicidal, antioxidant, cytoxicity and BSL assays, respectively.

Hoffm.) Ducke (Euphorbiaceae) is a singular species in the genus and is restricted and exclusive to the Brazilian Amazon. A phytochemical study of A. uleanus leaves was performed, yielding the isolation of five major compounds: catechin/epicatechin, afzelin, quercetin 3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranoside, and astilbin. The phytochemical compositions of the methano- lic extracts of leaves, roots, bark, and stem bark were determined using a dereplication approach. Forty-six compounds were annotated from the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC- Citation: Brito, J.A.G.d.; Pinto, L.d.S.; MS/MS) data, while four lipids were identified using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry Chaves, C.F.; Ribeiro da Silva, A.J.; Silva, M.F.d.G.F.d.; Cotinguiba, F.
