Eddie Def’s version completes the first round of the DMT collection of five planned turn-taking by Eddie Def and Dj Cue (both of the Space Travelers a.k.a. Bullet Scratch Hamsters producers of the famed Hamster Breaks dj battle record). His use of stacked old-school hip hop beats in combination with his layering of dark loops not only gives armchair djs an imaginative base but provides djs of jungle or trance as well as scratch djs a great source for some tweeking of their own. Listeners will like the euphoric texture of his music producers and djs will wonder what the hell he was on.

THE DIRTCHAMBER SESSIONS, VOLUME ONE Prodigy—XL/Beggars Banquet While this CD will be over a year old by the time you read this review, the producer of hybrid rock group Prodigy, Liam Howlett, has created a mixdisc that will keep heads spinning for years. An unorthodox com- bination of artists (The Sex Pistols and Frankie to the Beastie Boys and LLCoolJ to Barry White and Ultramagnetic Mc’s) will no doubt confuse the eyes but the ears will suggest a respect for the man’s comprehension of classic hip hop and Skratch Pikl influenced turntablism. Ordinarily, turntablist mixtapes realize a long shelf-life and Dirtchamber Sessions’ extraordinary style is sure to surpass the norm—sub- liminally, its longevity may be similar to that of the classic pairing of Run DMC and Aerosmith. Howlett has planted new seeds; sit back and watch that shit grow.
