[email protected] Manuscript submitted: 23 May 2011 / Accepted for publication: 12 April 2012 / Published online: 2 September 2013 Abstract The distribution, thickness and composition of the floodplain sediments in the valleys of the Aar and its tributaries (Taunus Mountains) were investigated by way of extensive fieldwork at 25 locations. In the entire catchment area, 48.8 million tons of loamy floodplain fines could be assessed. Most of these were deposited since late medieval times due to extensive historical land use and forest clearing, especially in the mining region along the middle course of the Aar. In its lower course, the enhanced sedimentation of loamy floodplain sediments started during the Bronze Age. Zusammenfassung Die Verteilung, Mächtigkeit und Zusammensetzung der Auelehme in den Tälern der Aar und ihrer Neben- flüsse wurden im Rahmen ausgedehnter Geländearbeiten an 25 Standorten untersucht. Im gesamten Ein- zugsgebiet der Aar konnten insgesamt 48,8 Mill. t Auelehm erfasst werden. Der Großteil davon wurde seit dem Spätmittelalter als Folge der historischen Landnutzung und Entwaldung, insbesondere im Berg- baugebiet am Mittellauf der Aar, sedimentiert. Im Unterlauf der Aar begann die verstärkte Sedimentation von Auelehm bereits in der Bronzezeit. Since the last meeting the knowledge on wildcat ecology increased a lot due to the field work of several research teams. The aim of the symposium was to bring these teams together to discuss especially questions which could not be solved by one single team due to limited number of observed individuals or special landscape features. The focus was set on the following questions: 1) Hybridization and risk of infection by domestic cat - a threat to wild living populations? 2) Reproductive success, mating behaviour, and life span - what strategy do wildcats have? 3) ffh - reports/ monitoring - which methods should be used? 4) Habitat utilization in different landscapes - species of forest or semi-open landscape? 5) Conservation of the wildcat - which measures are practicable? 6) Migrations - do wildcats have juvenile dispersal? 75 Experts from 9 European countries came to Fischbach within the transboundary Biosphere Reserve "Vosges du Nord - Pfälzerwald" to discuss distribution, ecology and behaviour of this rare species. Diese Lebensräume sind in einer ganz bestimmten Weise in der Land­ schaft angeordnet. Sieht man einmal von den Ackerfluren ab, so ergibt sich folgendes Idealbild: Auf den hohen, flachen Bergrücken dehnt sich auf dem Lehm des Muschelkalkes das Cephalanthero-Fagetum aus. Unterhalb da­ von, an den steilen Hängen, die aus steinigem Muschel- und Schaumkalk bestehen und recht trocken sind, findet man das Mesobrometum vor. Noch tiefer folgt schließlich — sofern dafür die Voraussetzungen, nämlich lehmig- humoser, quellfeuchter Boden gegeben sind — die Naßwiese. Diesen idealen Aufbau trifft man jedoch nur selten an (z. B. am „Hardter Eck“ bei Gers- heim). Die unmittelbare Nachbarschaft von Cephalanthero-Fagetum und Mesobrometum bei Fehlen der Naß wiese ist allerdings häufiger zu finden; auch hier liegen die Buchenwälder auf den höchsten Punkten der Land­ schaft (z. B. Schmalscheid: 340 m; Gestütter Höhe: 350 m; Buchwäldchen: 351 m). Das Mesobrometum weist in unserem Gebiet untypische Arten auf, die aber eine ziemlich große Rolle spielen.

Karthäuser 2016: Status and population trend of Corncrake Crex crex in Germany. Vogelwelt 136: 113 – 119. During the last 20 years our knowledge of the Corncrake breeding distribution and trends in numbers in Germany has greatly improved, despite the difficulties in surveying the species. Data from previous (1974-1995) and recent (2005-2009) breeding bird atlas work show the presence of Corncrakes in all major natural regions as well as an overall increase in atlas grid occupancy. The increase was most obvious in the Northern German Plain, whereas in the Southwest occupancy dropped by a factor of 0.56. Densities of calling males in selected core breeding sites recorded since 1990 showed a signifi- cant trend with an increase before and a decrease after 1998. Influx years in 1998-1999, 2002-2003, 2007-2008, and to a lesser extent 2012 led to a high degree of year-to-year variation. In such years much higher numbers are found outside the core breeding areas, too. These fluctuations were also reflected in estimates of national population size regularly produced in the course of national Red List updates.     Gründung der Holzmarkt Taunus Westerwald GmbH für den Verkauf von Holz aus kommunalem Waldbesitz Sehr geehrte Damen und Herren, seither hat der Landesbetrieb Hessen Forst, für unsere Gemeinde das Forstamt in Weilmünster das Holz aus dem Gemeindewald vermarktet. Aus kartellrechtlichen Gründen war der Holzverkauf jedoch neu zu regeln. Die Mehrheit der Kommunen, die vom Forstamt Weilmünster und vom Forstamt Weilburg betreut werden, hat deshalb die gemeinsame Gründung einer Holzvermarktungsgesellschaft angegangen. Nach den Entscheidungen in den Kommunalparlamenten - die Gemeindevertretung unserer Gemeinde hat es am Donnerstag, 13.06.2019 beraten - war es jetzt soweit: Am Freitag, 28.06.2019 wurde in Weilmünster die zu 100 % kommunale „Holzmarkt- Taunus-Westerwald GmbH“ gegründet, der neben der Gemeinde Hünfelden noch Weilmünster, Weilburg, Bad Camberg, Villmar, Runkel, Waldbrunn, Beselich, Elz, Limburg, Elbtal und Leun angehören. In Weilmünster nach der Unterzeichnung des Gesellschaftsvertrages durch die Bürgermeister und die ersten Beigeordneten/ersten Stadträte, mit dabei waren auch Verwaltungsmitarbeiter Seite 1 von 2 Die Gesellschaft hat ihren Betriebssitz in Weilmünster. Das Stammkapital der GmbH verteilt sich auf die Mitgliedskommunen nach den Größen der Betriebsflächen. Zur Gründung der GmbH wurde zunächst Mario Koschel, Bürgermeister von Weilmünster als Geschäftsführer benannt; er wird später durch einen hauptamtlichen Geschäftsführer abgelöst. Für die Erstellung des Businessplans der GmbH hat das Land Hessen 4.140 EUR bewilligt. Es können auch noch weitere Fördergelder zur Anschubfinanzierung der Gesellschaft beim Land Hessen beantragt werden. Diese Aufgabe wird zentral von der Gemeinde Weilmünster übernommen. Der Gesellschafterversammlung gehören alle Mitgliedskommunen an. Die Ausgaben der Gesellschaft werden durch Umlagezahlungen von den Mitgliedskommunen finanziert; Grundlage dafür sind die Festmeter geernteten und verkauften Holzes.

The occurrence of three azonal habitat types: mires with their numerous microhabitats, the georelief of the karst and its deeply-cut river valleys, and ecological islands with a distinct vegetation near the treeline of the middle-mountains causes local areas of high diversity. These high species diversity spots are the result of an interplay between physical, biotic and historical factors. A model of an anemo-orographic system with its underlying factors is described to explain the high plant and animal diversity in the corries (glacial cirques) of the Hercynian mountains. RÉSUMÉ.-La végétation de l'Europe Centrale tempérée au nord des Alpes nous montre surtout des forêts à de feuillues et de connifères à faible diversité. Cependant, la présence de trois types d'habitats azonaux peut produire une haute diversité au niveau local: zones humides avec leur nombreux microhabitats, reliefs karstiques et leur profonds défilés fluviaux, et enfin des îles écologiques avec une végétation par­ ticulière situées près de la limite supérieure des arbres (treeline). Ces secteurs riches en espèces peuvent s'expliquer par l'interaction des facteurs physiques, biotiques et historiques. Dans ce domaine nous proposons un système anémo-orographique avec ses facteurs inféodés qui pourrait expliquer la haute diversité animale et végétale dans les cirques glaciaires des montagnes hercyniennes.

Euro entschuldet HESSENKASSE löst heute die letzten kommunalen Kassenkredite ab: „Der 17. Dezember 2018 dürfte in die Geschichte Hessens, vor allem aber in die Geschichte vieler unserer Kommunen, eingehen: Ab heute sind Hessens Kommunen ihre Kassenkredite los. Rund 4,9 Milliarden Euro kommunaler Kassenkredite sind heute endgültig auf die HESSENKASSE übergegangen. Kassenkredite sind der Dispo der Girokonten der Kommunen. Die HESSENKASSE hat nun Hessens Kommunen aus dem Dispo geholt“, sagte Hessens Finanzminister Dr. Thomas Schäfer heute in Wiesbaden. „179 Kommunen hatten noch bis vor kurzem Kassenkredite in Höhe von 4,9 Milliarden Euro. Ab heute sind sie alle auf 0 gestellt. Das hat es so nicht nur in Hessen noch nicht gegeben, sondern das ist bundesweit einmalig.“ 179 Kommunen in Hessen nehmen am Entschuldungsprogram der HESSENKASSE teil. An zwei Ablösetagen wurden ihre Schulden nun schrittweise von der HESSENKASSE übernommen. 3,6 Milliarden Euro wurden bereits im September aus den kommunalen Büchern genommen. Heute folgten weitere 1,3 Milliarden Euro. Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis und viele seiner Kommunen profitieren „Auch der Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis ist einer der Gewinner der HESSENKASSE. Der Kreis, Aarbergen, Bad Schwalbach, Eltville, Geisenheim, Heidenrod, Hohenstein, Hünstetten, Idstein, Niedernhausen, Oestrich-Winkel, Rüdesheim, Taunusstein und Waldems werden zusammen um über 420 Millionen Euro entschuldet. Das sind gewaltige Summen, die teils über Jahrzehnte angehäuft wurden.
