Interreligious Dialogue in Bosnia-Herzegovina1
MILAN KOSTRESEVIC Interreligious Dialogue in Bosnia-Herzegovina1 No peace among nations without peace among religions. No peace among religions without dialogue between religions. No dialogue between religions without research into their foundations. Hans Küng, Declaration Toward a Global Ethic, 1990 Introduction This article outlines and discusses the results of interreligious dialogue in Bos- nia-Herzegovina following the 1992-1995 war. To provide appropriate con- textual background, I will first discuss the historical background of the late 20th- century war, then provide an overview of relevant census data and analyse the founding of the Interreligious Council which comprises four representatives of the two Christian churches, together with two from the Muslim and two from the Jewish community. It is the activities and working groups of the Council which carry on the work of post-war reconciliation and allied interreligious dia- logue. Accordingly, an analysis of the activities and projects of the Council and provides an overview and insight into challenges and tasks that are presently faced. Historical Background Prior to the Late 20th-Century War Dialogue between different religions, which has recently faced major challenges and questions, has in recent years found an oasis of peace and a potential for progress in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Bosnia-Herzegovina is a country that is a mod- el and good example of ecumenism and interreligious dialogue. The three mono- theistic religions (Christianity, Islam, and Judaism) have been living there side by side for centuries (Wettach-Zeitz 2008: 110). Freedom of religion is formally confirmed and guaranteed under the Constitution (Art. 2, § 3G). A pluralist society, it is not only in the last 25 years that Bosnia-Herzegovina has seen conflict between different religious and ethnic groups. -

Oni su u turskom periodu bili jedini predstavnici katoličkog klera a u novije vrijeme rade zajedno s dijecezanskim svećenstvom i pripadnicima drugih redovničkih zajednica. -
Medjugorje's Effects: a History of Local, State and Church Response
MEDJUGORJE'S EFFECT'S: A HISTORY OF LOCAL, STATE AND CHURCH RESPONSE TO THE MEDJUGORJE PHENOMENON Teresa M. Pangle A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS May 2011 Committee: Dr. Beth Greich-Polelle, Advisor Dr. Gary R. Hess ii ABSTRACT Dr. Beth Greich-Polelle, Advisor This thesis examines the impacts of the alleged appearances of the Virgin Mary which began in Medjugorje, Yugoslavia in 1981. Through the examination of primary sources such as Catholic Church and the United States Department of State documentation and eye-witness interviews, this study creates a basic history of the events in Medjugorje and clearly defines the Catholic Church’s position on these events. This thesis provides an academic history of the events surrounding Medjugorje and provides historical insight into the motivations behind the response of the local villagers and clergy members, the Yugoslavian state and the Vatican. The events studied include a carefully-documented history of the first two months of the apparitions, an account of the officially-atheistic, Yugoslavian government’s response to the subsequent religious outpouring, and a history of the Catholic Church’s response to the alleged apparitions up to the present day. The dispute of the authenticity of the apparitions of the Virgin Mary in Medjugorje - which is currently under investigation by the Catholic Church - is polarizing within Catholic culture. The historiography of these events is divided into two groups of “pro-authenticity” or “anti-authenticity” authors who publish opposing and even contradictory information while using the same sources. -

The Roman Catholic Church in Socialist Yugoslavia
200 † Religious Separation and Political Intolerance in Bosnia-Herzegovina the roman catholic church in socialist yugoslavia Because of its ambiguous wartime role, the Catholic Church was singled out and targeted by the new authorities during the first postwar years. This situation was further exacerbated by its openly negative attitude toward the Communists and their ideals. Several bishops and lower clergymen from the “Catholic” parts of Yugoslavia were imprisoned or murdered, including Uniate bishop Sˇimrak (imprisoned for collabora- tion), and Catholic bishops Cˇ ule of Mostar (sentenced to eleven-and-a- half years’ imprisonment, served seven), Josip Srebrnic´ of Krk (jailed for two months immediately after the war), Ivan Stjepcˇevic´, Stjepan Bauer- lein of Djakovo (house arrest for three months), and Monsignor Stjepavac from Kotor (sentenced to six years). Catholic bishop Carevic´ of Dubrov- nik was declared missing. According to data provided by the Catholic side, the casualties among the clergy numbered 501: 243 priests and monks were killed, 169 were imprisoned, and 89 are missing. In addition, nineteen theology students, three lay brothers, and four nuns were executed. It must be pointed out that Yugoslavia was not an exception in this respect: clergymen accused of collaborating with the enemy were executed immediately before or af- ter the end of the war in other parts of Europe as well, including Italy.32 O’Brien notes that only 401 of the 1,916 Catholic clergymen in Yugo- slavia remained after the war: 369 were murdered or executed, 175 were imprisoned, 409 fled abroad, and 562 were missing; twelve nuns were ex- ecuted and fifty were imprisoned. -
HOD U VJERI Banja Luka I Okolica Jurica Šalić, OFM
Jurica Šalić. OFM HOD U VJERI Banja Luka i okolica Jurica Šalić, OFM HOD U VJERI Banja Luka i okolica Lektor: fra Ivo Radman Izdavač: Franjevački samostan Petrićevac Štampa: MP »Nova Štampa« d.d. -
